Why can I not center click to scroll in the forums? Is this just me?
3I can center click and scroll on the main page, but for whatever reason I can never do it in the forums.
My first official goat blame, @jarmelz you're the only one that I can think of to blame for this!

Beats me, I usually just tappity tap until something happens.
@jaremelz
same thing here
yeah... it's broke for me too...@shawn @hollboll @thumperchick @galmaegi (Did I get it right today???)
@sohmageek I don't care... I'm just excited I got @galmaegi's name right today! I'll leave the comment on the end as a proud flag of me learning how it's spelled... :) I think it deserves a speech!
@sohmageek Oh, it worked. Hi @sohmageek!
@galmaegi hi @galmaegi how are you doing??
@sohmageek Great! Playing some Hex Fever game today. You should try out!
You center-click-scroll people are weird. What mice are you using (brand/model)?
@shawn It's the (annoying, IMO) default behavior on Windows. Not dependent on any weird mouse drivers or anything.
@shawn Logitech wireless and Lenovo. But yes it is default Windows behavior.
@shawn wired HP and wired Anker. Doesn't work for either. This is the only place on the interwebs that it doesn't work.
@shawn The rare times I'm on my desktop I'm using a Kensington Optical Elite, model 72121, but it's just using the standard Windows HID-compliant mouse driver.
@shawn Weird, yes. For us trackball users, it's indispensable. The whole reason to use a trackball is to reduce hand & finger movements so we don't end up with hand pain.
That being said: Logitech TrackMan Wheel (wired)
So some middle-button scrollers didn't
go into that good night when scroll wheels took over in the '90s...
@trisk You are aware the wheel can click also, right?
I think one of the forum updates switched "autoscroll" off, but no one remembers how to turn it back on.
I'd say it's been broken for 6 weeks or so.
@lumpthar Certainly, I use the middle button (or the equivalent gesture on a touchpad) all the time, but either to paste highlighted text or in video games.
My guess for the forum issue with middle button scrolling would be some new bit of JS taking control of middle button presses away from your browser.
@trisk Does the gesture on a trackpad work? Or is that broken as well?
@luvche21 It works as well as a physical button, of course. I don't use a browser with the middle button scrolling feature, though.
We're talking about clicking the mouse wheel and using that to scroll right? Because that doesn't work here (it bothers me about as much as it should)- I'm using a Vivitar wired mouse (V81251), from Five Below.
@dashcloud Yes, center wheel clicking to scroll. You're lucky that it only bothers you about as much as it should. I think mine went over that limit since I try it out of habit just about every time I come to the forums and get disappointed when it doesn't work :(
Oooh! It's working again.
Tracked this down to be an issue with jQuery Mobile (a component we're using for the taphold functionality to reveal usernames on star tooltips for touch devices).
I've proposed a possible patch that I doubt will get merged into the component: https://github.com/jquery/jquery-mobile/pull/8306
In the meantime, I've patched our local copy to get this working for you weird center-click-scroll people.
@shawn It works!
@shawn Neato!
@shawn hey shawn, want another mystery to me? My back buttons don't work on mobile. Also when editing a long post the highlight to copy/paste move cursor isn't working. iPhone 6 Plus (MGAV2LL/A) iOS 9.0.2
This started happening the other day and then I couldn't access the forums for about 2-3 hours. Not sure if it's just me or something in the scripting/coding.
@sohmageek can't reproduce either issue here. back buttons work fine. copy/paste highlight works fine.
@shawn it's mostly the back button/gestures. When I've posted something it goes to like an edit/just before I posted then refreshes the page as it hitting submit. I usually have to either go back to the top and double tap the conversation button. Or go to the forums url.
@sohmageek I ran into the back button issue on mobile chrome the other day. Weird, but can't replicate.
@shawn Thanks, but now it's broken on the BBC's website. I am blaming @jaremelz for ruining my internet.
@lumpthar
@jaremelz I needed that. Thanks!
@shawn It's weird, it happened today when I Was trying to edit the other post that I flagged you in (the pc game one) Also wouldn't let me load desktop version of the site (to fix the image) on ios w/ safari.
@shawn I'm going to make your day. Stupid tech support requests. Well I know I'm glad it's fixed now. All but the gestures are not working still. The copy paste thing. It was my screen protector. Damn glass. It started chipping and I guess the pressure wasn't uniform across the device anymore. Causing it to think I was pressing elsewhere.
Woohoo! Thanks @shawn!
