Who’s Your Favorite Chef

Maybe it’s me?
Apparently I entered a competition when I was doom scrolling one night and I was accepted. Seems like a weird popularity contest? But if I can actually win a trip to NYC to cook with cool chefs I’m going to try! So feel free to vote. Or not. It’s worth a shot!

Good luck! Your trip to NYC should be amehzing!
@yakkoTDI @sillyheathen It really should
I’ll be stoked if I get to go! I think going to NY and cooking with the chefs would be even better than the cash prize tbh.

@medz the Swedish chef is
my inner monologue.
Evidently you can only vote through Facebook?
@Kyeh really? I truly don’t know because I don’t have the book of face and haven’t tried to vote.
It’s a bit of an odd duck. I know I’m only 1 of 20 for Carla’s group but it seems like it’s more about votes for people that can utilize social media. I wish it was more about challenges and actual cooking. I think there is some of that involved eventually but to begin with it’s just voting?
@sillyheathen I don’t have Facebook either, so I guess I can’t vote. Boo. This reminds me of the contest that @brainmist was in for spookiest person or something like that - it was kind of a internet/influencer popularity contest than a real competition, I think.
@brainmist @Kyeh I’m sure it is which is a bit of a bummer because I’m not about the influencing. I just love the cooking. I read extensively through the rules and really hoped we’d have challenges but you can buy votes which makes me sad. I love that it’s supporting the James Beard Foundation but truthfully it’s just kind of sad to me that we don’t seem to actually have to cook until the groups are finished. I doubt I’ll get to the final because I suck at the social media and popularity bollocks.
@sillyheathen Sadly, FB is not the only place where what looks like an enthusiasm-building friendly competition is more of a revenue-building marketing information collection campaign, which is why I tend to avoid participating when a login is required in order to do so. Good luck, anyway.
@brainmist @Kyeh @sillyheathen you can always stuff the ballot with throwaway FB accounts (they were never great at verifying my humanity… Or their founder’s)
‘Kush’ Bhasin
If you know who that is, you probably understand why he’s my favorite.
@werehatrack
Did you not read the OP?
@chienfou Yes, but I had no burning desire to either be a nominee or play the website’s game, so I just answered the question in the topic.
@werehatrack
That was nice of you… But I don’t think that was the OP’s point. All I’m saying is, at least addressing her exciting news would have been thoughtful… Then you could have waxed esoteric all you wanted…
@chienfou FB’s things like this tend to be cookie-encrusted tracking extravaganzas intended to hook up your contact info with every marketing list in existence. I’ve really gotten tired of unsubbing sixteen times (or more) for every such participatory error, so I don’t go there anymore. I didn’t feel that it was appropriate to rain on their parade by pointing that out.
@werehatrack
…but not always… Right?
Let’s hope the heathen that is silly wins! Best of luck from me and Charliedoggo!
As far as my favorite Chef, I love, love, love Julia Child. Let me tell you why! I can remmeber being a little kid and wanting to watch her show every time it aired. Seems odd looking back, but her voice and accent, her stories, just all of it was amazing. Watching her cook these amazing different things, some of which I had never seen or heard of (obviously).
She definitely had an effect on my life. I love to cook and try new things, being curious, brave and adventurous! I also swear by Le Creuset. Didn’t think about it for a long time and connect the dots as to why, but I am sure it was her influence.
As an adult, I appreciate her tenacity. The woman WAS A SPY!!! Thren as an adult changed her role and decided to take up cooking, because why not!
I am happy I was able to grow up in a time that I could be exposed to her influence.
I tried to vote for you but voting is blocked behind a Facebook wall.
@OnionSoup yeah. It’s kind of disappointing. They’re making a total mare out of the whole thing by only allowing the Facebook thing. I don’t even have Facebook and I’m a competitor.

@OnionSoup @sillyheathen That IS stupid - and infuriating!
@Kyeh @OnionSoup
Absolutely
@sillyheathen
Well…WE still love you!
@sillyheathen
Care to update us? (I am also part of the great un-FB generation… but I’m pulling for you anyway!)
Hopefully your garden can spare you briefly.
I think I’m in second place for my group but I also refuse to pay for votes. I want to win because I cook kick ass food not because I constantly ask for votes or buy them.
@sillyheathen I hate to say it, but from what happened with @brainmist, I think the vote buyers end up winning. Because the contests are run by an organization that makes money for charities and I’m sure they must take a cut. I hope I’m wrong, but I read around a bit and they also do a bunch of other contests.
@sillyheathen
That’s awesome (que bot). I’m sure you will make an impact on whoever you cook for next! Good luck in the coming days.
We are headed to the beach the end of next week for a memorial for Mom (that was her happy place and she died last Easter… which falls on her birthday this year!!). There will be 15 of us between my sister, her kids/their partners, and ours. We’ve separated it out so each day one couple will be in charge of the main meal plan. Most of them will be Taco Tuesday or spaghetti kind of meals but my son and his partner are doing a curry dish that is going to require a trip to an Indian grocery for a butt-load of ingredients for us to bring down. Since we are driving we are doing all the shopping, but knowing his skill set at cooking I have no doubt it will be delicious.
Thankfully the day you cook you’re also responsible for cleaning up (but then you have the rest of the week off)!
VAN GOGH! MANGO! TANGO! AWESOME!
@mediocrebot @sillyheathen
Maybe that could be the name of your dish if/when you prepare something in NY!
@brainmist @Kyeh yeah I’ve accepted it. If I get further or to the top or whatever great. If not I haven’t lost anything. Just wish I actually had to cook and be judged on that. It is what it is!
