Mmm… It’s only 4.5 hours and I have woot monkies. but the community died when Amazon bought woot out so. Not for me. I’m kinda antisocial anyway though. Hope you enjoy it
@narfcake@unksol the wine community used to be fun. Then Amazon closed it so now there are remnants of it here.
To realize how long ago that was, I remember someone suggesting we all sign up for this new thing called Facebook so we could find out more about each other and communicate, organize events, etc. At the time almost nobody had heard of Facebook. It was just some new thing from some college guys (Zuckerberg, etc) but now anybody could sign up.

@pmarin@unksol IIRC, wine.woot had to cease operations due to legal issues that rose from their purchase of Whole Foods. Casemates is the resurrection of wine.woot/Wine Country Connect.
@narfcake@unksol what made it worse is then Amazon shut down the local Whole Foods market (used to be Wild Oats I think). This was about 2018 before Covid.
Turns out in others cities those stores became Amazon grocery delivery warehouses (though still open as stores). I bet they are sorry they closed that one. It was next to a Borders bookstore now gone too. I think they are both still vacant. Must not be a good time to be a commercial real-estate investor either.
@sammydog01 i’m not sure if i’ll make it. It’s over 3 hours from me. Was really considering it. We’ll see how i feel in the morning about driving that much.
@jkawaguchi@Kyeh
if you attend in MN watch out for the crazy SOB accused of shooting 2 members of the MN legislature. Vance Luther Boelter had No Kings fliers in his vehicle when PD went to his house…
@chienfou@jkawaguchi@Kyeh yeah didn’t know what to make of that. Also apparently he was staunchly anti-abortion which might explain a little. The No Kings thing is weird and seemingly out-of-place (red herring?) I heard he left a “manifesto,” but don’t know the contents, and don’t really want to know.
I did get up at 4AM Saturday (not intentional, but I often wake up about then) and checked Sky News from England just as their King thing was starting. Lots of horses and nice uniforms. Abundant fanfare. No tanks or armored vehicles.
@chienfou@jkawaguchi@Kyeh@pmarin my little conservatives City turned out about 1250 or 1300 people. We have a population of about 35,000 so not bad as far as I’m concerned
I wasn’t able to go (recovering from surgery) But my sister did! Sent a few really good pictures. I don’t know how to share them, I would if I could. Big turnout in CHITown! The March lasted for 5 hours, Lots of competing events, like MSI Summer STEAM camp,
New Pope welcome mass at SoxPark, Porto Rico fest, Old Town Art Fair, Lincoln Square Rib Fest, and many more. This city is busy when the weather is decent. No riots or vandalism. Respectful marchers!
What a coincidence!

It’s a 6 hour drive, I’ll probably sit at home.
@Star2236 It’s about a 35 hour drive for me so probably won’t make it….

@unksol Nearly 15 years ago now. Amazon had a minority stake in Woot before then too.

@narfcake lol well I wasn’t going to get into how old I feel when I think about the past.

@mbersiam I would love to see photos.

@mbersiam @sammydog01
So did you go?
@Kyeh @sammydog01 I did not and looking at the Woot forum, sounds like most of the fun was done within the first hour.
@mbersiam @sammydog01 Oh, good you didn’t drive 3 hours for that.
Sorry, not gonna make it. The frizmatic gonkulator is busted on my Tardis…
It’s NO KINGS DAY !
@jkawaguchi Ironically enough, it’s officially the King’s birthday in Great Britain:

@jkawaguchi @Kyeh @pmarin
I think the current implication is that the No Kings rally was considered a possible futher target location.
@chienfou @jkawaguchi @Kyeh @pmarin
Did you go? Local or wherever you were?
I did
@Cerridwyn @jkawaguchi @Kyeh @pmarin
Nope. Worked this weekend.
@chienfou @jkawaguchi @Kyeh @pmarin you are excused then
@Cerridwyn @chienfou @jkawaguchi @pmarin I didn’t but there was a good turnout here.
