Cheaper at home – so many movies available to stream cheaply, if you dig around enough in the corners of the Web.
And, I’ve got my Stir Crazy popper here.
Anyway, Florida is too far to walk. (And it would probably be hotter than hockey sticks by time I got there.)
@phendrick@yakkoTDI We have one that was built in 1928 and has a Wurlitzer organ they play sometimes. That said I usually go to Regal because parking is easier.
@phendrick@sammydog01 I go to an AMC* since I literally have to drive past it to get out of the office unless I want to add 10 miles and a lot of traffic to my drive.
*Mainly for first run movies. Tampa Theatre is great for classics and more independent films. Tampa Theatre also has the Winter Movie Classic series and Halloween movies.
@phendrick@yakkoTDI I spend way too much time at Regal- they lose money on my unlimited subscription. I’ve been to the old theater’s Halloween shows- they’re a blast.
Flhorrida? I escaped in '81, I have no desire to go back. But if you can move Tampa around the coast a bit, and maybe park it just northeast of Galveston, I’d be game.
I’m always down for “2001,” but i notice the review by ChatGPT conveniently neglects to mention HAL. The only reference to robots is the innocent-looking emoji version. Well played, bot!
@ircon96 I didn’t even read the review since I was familiar with it. I think maybe the Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic computer is actually ChatGPT.
@Kyeh@narfcake There have been plans in the works to clean it up for decades. The problem is that none of them have ever received enough funding to do more than perform a ceremonial token photo-op event in an easily accessible location.
Meanwhile, the groundwater under that soup is reportedly laden with loads of lithium that would be easier and cleaner to extract and prep into a usable form for battery manufacturing than any of the current mines and processes, but nothing seems to be going on to make that happen. It would almost seem like various vested interests with a big stake in the status quo want everyone to forget about this damn near crucial resource that would curtail their income stream from one of the planet’s dirtiest manufacturing activities.
@Kyeh@narfcake@werehatrack And that’s for what they call “clean energy”? Are we just having our chains yanked? Do politicians and ad writers take the same Marketing class, Lying 101?
@Kyeh@narfcake@phendrick lithium batteries are, in their own way, the real Soylent Green of the 21st century. And the alternatives to using them are, at this point, even worse. There just aren’t any really good solutions.

@phendrick Converting my house to a 1920’s movie theatre would not be cheaper.
Take an Uber to avoid walking in the Florida weather.

@phendrick @sammydog01 Completely forgot to mention the Mighty Wurlitzer at Tampa Theatre. I even got to see/hear Rosa Rio play.

That is a rather odd mix of movies…
But more importantly, the drive there would be about 32 hours longer than I’d like to do.
Go ahead and have fun without me this time.
Only about an hour and a half Amtrak ride from me!
@PooltoyWolf And you would be dropped off just a few blocks from the theatre.

@ircon96 @yakkoTDI First rule of Bot Club: We never mention that we know other bots. Whomens would consider it part of a conspiracy.

@narfcake What’s happened to the Salton Sea with all the rain you’ve had? I keep wondering if it filled up again.
@Kyeh Good question. I don’t know, but with the added rains, there’s probably added runoff flowing into it too, so I doubt it’s gotten any cleaner.
@narfcake Hmm, probably not. I saw some article several months ago that said there was a plan in the works to clean it up?
