Last night at 1 am I saw a new pokemon on my radar and wandered the neighborhood in my jammies and crocs. It turned out to be a beldum. The cool thing- there was this loud noise coming from a tree that I thought was a frog and then it flew away. I’m pretty sure it was a pair of barn owls. They were flying around over my head back and forth from tree to tree. A car went by and the headlights flashed a light colored giant bird in the trees. Then I ran home before the driver called the police about the loony staring into trees.
Be on the lookout for a menacing human dressed kinda funny roaming the neighborhood. Mr & Mrs Wally Owl were disturbed last night while they were roosting at home. The intruder is described as a short human but with a wild look in their eyes.

I went out walking to find Pokemon tonight and met a man and his dog on a bridge. He was playing Pokemon too! We’re now friends!
He showed me game play techniques like how to use berries to calm down Pokemon and that I should be completing field progress and special tasks. Swell guy!
If someone would have asked what would happen if I were stopped by a stranger at 10pm on a dimly lit bridge, I wouldn’t have predicted such a positive outcome.
Just a heads’ up - there is an event going on now. Starting yesterday, you will receive double candies for hatching and catching, plus eggs put into an incubator now will hatch in half the time (eggs already incubating aren’t affected). This will go for a week.
Saturday is Zapdos day. From 11am-2pm PT you can raid for Zapdos with the chance of catching a shiny. Shiny Zapdos have a 100% catch rate but there’s only about a 5% chance your Zap will be shiny.
The best creatures for beating the Zapdos raids are Tyranitar and Golem with rock moves (Smack Down/Stone Edge), Dragonite with dragon moves (Dragon Tail/Outrage), and ice creatures with ice moves (notably Piloswine and Jynx).
Also - Both Saturday and Sunday, August 11th and 12th, will be Eeevee Community Day. Since Eevee has five current eeveelutions plus at least an additional two in future generations, get all the candies you can!
Plus there’s a 3x Stardust bonus for any catch and I, for one, need all the stardust I can get. Definitely going to be using my star pieces these days.

This Saturday and Sunday are both Community Days for Eevee. There are currently five eeveelutions in Pokemon Go, with another two coming soon in Generation 4, plus at least one more in further generations. If you like to collect shinies for each 'mon, you’ll need to collect at least nine (if you haven’t used the name trick, then you best hope you get Vaporeon, Flareon, and Jolteon just once).
Since evolving Umbreon and Espreon requires 10 kilometers walked and two buddy candies (plus specific times of day), it’s nice Community Day has been extended.

@Yoda_Daenerys I gave away a bunch of berries and deleted about 60 pokeballs. It might be easier to just start over, knowing now that one must resist all the pokemon following one around and be more selective in capturing them.
@cf1 Eh? Catch them if you have the balls, keep the best, transfer the rest to the professor. Or, if you have the candies, you can use a lucky egg to double your XP, evolve fifty or so pokemon, then transfer them to the professor.
Why start over at a low level just to not catch and not level up? I do not understand.
@cf1 you can appraise as you catch and pitch the low IV/level mons, if you’re into that. gotta catch 'em all is the theme, but it doesn’t say gotta keep 'em all . it’s an ongoing issue managing storage though, even on my main account which is 1500 mons/1500 items. now with trading you have one more reason to keep a crappy mon because it might become great on a trade re-roll. niantic wants all your attention.

Did my first EX raid today. About 25 people showed up at the park, I was one of five Team Valor players making up a team. We beat a Mewtwo, then anticlimactically everyone disappeared. But I caught a 95.6% level 20 Mewtwo (Stamina 13, attack/defense 15), so it was a good event.
Still waiting on my one accepted friend request to do anything; I sent a gift weeks ago but it hasn’t been opened and they apparently have barely been in the game.
@PlacidPenguin@Yoda_Daenerys So far I have shiny Aron, Larvitar, Magikarp, Sunkern, but except for the Larvitar they are decent or worse. I’m keeping them but won’t be evolving the less gifted given their stats.
@PlacidPenguin@duodec, the game i play says IV’s don’t matter on shiny, they’re just collector items. not everyone plays the same tho. whether you evolve a shiny larvitar or magikarp, which can be relevant in the current meta, kinda depends on your game goals/philosophy, right?
Step five requires a trade. Fortunately my area has both an active Discord and Telegram server. I think there’s a group on Facebook as well.
I’m hoping that’s it for group related steps.

@Yoda_Daenerys I completed me Kanto dex yesterday after getting a Mr Mime. I say this during almost every event, but this might be my favorite event ever.

Kanto (first gen) Pokemon are more common, including rarer ones like the Hitmons, Lapras, and Grimer - through Sep 30th.
Regionals (Mr Mime, Farfetch’d, Kangaskhan, and Tauros) in 7k eggs - through Sep 30th probably.
Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres in raids - through Sep 20th
Mewtwo coming to raids starting Sep 20th. Shadow Ball is being retired from Mewtwo’s moveset, so if you have any Charge TMs try to get it (my luck was not with me so I still have Hyper Beam, also being retired).
@sammydog01 you need to walk to clear your old eggs, then only accept gifts (without spinning any stops/gyms) until your egg spots are full, then rinse, wash, repeat to try your best for the regionals, esp. kanga and mime if you don’t have those… and all the birds raids have the potential for shiny. all this depends on your game play though and what interests you.
@Yoda_Daenerys My trainer code was out there but I had too many requests to handle. Ended up changing my code once I hit 130 friends. Stressful - I am barely able to send ten gifts a day…
@emilyap@sammydog01 you get a better discount on the coins if you go all in for $100, $10 is the gateway drug. but it’s not a very expensive hobby if that’s all you spend.
@emilyap gotcha, i don’t stress over fair gifting anymore. with the regional stuff it’s nice to always have gifts in the bag to open and fill egg spots. i’ve changed strategies on who to open, who to gift several times.

Actually some nice man at the mall caught the mewtwo for me since I used half my balls and didn’t even hit the stupid thing. trading a mewtwo, if you have none, is 80,000 dust at ultra or 40,000 at best friend, so that’s 3 months out if gifts exchanged everyday.
if you are level 20, i would suggest that’s not a good use of dust and i would only consider it if you had a shiny legendary, or trophius or relicanth in return.

@deathdieeee You get that you have to be physically standing next to someone to trade with them, right? This is a good place to chat about pokemon and get people to send you gifts but we can’t help you with trades. You need to find a local group where you live for that. As for Mewtwo they have been putting legendary pokemon as research rewards so your best bet is either finding friends to raid with or waiting until Mewtwo is available by doing research. I got mine at the mall on Community Day with total strangers.
@deathdieeee Spoofing will get you banned- why don’t you get a ride to a park or mall on October 21 (community day) and see if you can find people. And take an adult with you because no one over 18 is going to interact with a 12 year old without a chaperone.
@deathdieeee if you join a raid and win you should be able to catch by 1) use a g-razz 2) set the circle and release the ball 3) wait for the attack 4) throw a great or excellent curve.
i’m over 95% on mewtwo with this technique - not bragging just saying it shouldn’t be too difficult if you can get in a raid…

@deathdieeee I’m not upset- I think that’s the reason most kids don’t play the game anymore. You need to be able to get places and unless you live within walking distance you need a car. I don’t understand how spoofing works- @Yoda_Daenerys can probably help you there. But I bet that Mewtwo will show up in research before too long.

THE NIGHT OF THE BIG TOURNEY
i was fortunate to be able to travel to montreal with my son and his gf
he’s into pvp (i’m not)
the BIG tourney was saturday night (i think i got 3-4 shiny cats that day)
BUT 2 pairs of lucky friends
we went on the cheap that day, so shared data/hotspot
son and gf went to the tourney early, i arrived just before the scheduled start
i navigated there without data, on foot (proud of myself)
so…, i’m waiting in line to gain admission
several hundred trainers RUN out of the building
my son, his gf, and his data/hotspot included
(there was a 100iv drillbur nearby)
i finished the queue to register
only to be asked what team did i play on
‘all of them’ wasn’t well received?
i took off, down the UP escalator, following the last of the crowd
there were 100’s of lunatics running
through the busy streets of downtown montreal
and people in their cars were, like, “are you all making money or something?”
i reached the dark alley, sadly, already clearing
BUT, i convinced my son (and his hotspot) to hang out while i caught the 6
he was anxious to get back to the tourney
with the delay, there was plenty of time (we now know)
my six, maxed, hundo, Montreal, exadrill may be unique in the game
maybe not though?
it got late, my son wasn’t in line to win
i left, you can’t rent a scooter without data, sadly
i navigated blindly back to the airbnb, without data, on foot
several hours later, off to chase some bad directions to safari zone
walked SO LONG over the wrong bridge to get there

The last few people I knew around here who were playing are dropping off. They went to the Harry Potter game for a while, then dropped it and haven’t come back. I dabbled in the Potter game but it just wasn’t much fun.
Currently have two best friends, one from work, one connected here, but we didn’t manage to sync the promotion, so no double XP.
If we can arrange again that would be great, but don’t expect immediate response from me; unfortunately around October all our customers suddenly realize end of year is near and start hammering us with projects and problems. Lots of extra hours of work coming (and we’re salaried, woohoo!)
@sammydog01 adventure sync uses the accelerometer(s) in the phone to sense “movement”. adventure sync only logs km’s when the game is off (and e.g. google fit is on for android)
the in game km’s while playing do rely on GPS though.
so you put your phone in “the swing” overnight and it clocks between 25-40km while you sleep
@Yoda_Daenerys work makes it hard to do the lunchtime ambling about that I used to do (and I miss it too). Going to have to think about one of those for during the day at work.
Just managed to scrape the coin together for another adventure box (to get incubators) and I’m hatching eggs like crazy till I burn through them again. At about 5-7km/week that I get credit for… meh.
@duodec we are within striking distance of best friends (on hansolotormund). i tagged you on my discord server. let me know if you want to co-ordinate for double XP with an egg.
@Yoda_Daenerys We’re ‘sheltering in place’ for the next 2 weeks. We were prepared so no need to go out, but also no pokestops nearby, and if we see one or two pokemon wander by its a good day (and with work going insane, even from home, no time to do much). We can schedule doing the egg and gift thing, especially if its evening. I’d appreciate it; my progress this level has been glacial.
@duodec no worries about coordinating. when we get to last interaction i’ll try to be sure i’ve sent you a gift. then you can egg and open at your convenience. that account is already lvl40, so i’m not worried about the extra XP.

@duodec@looseneck@tinamarie1974 niantic delayed the release of this new feature, until TBD. as i understand it, if i am doing a raid here in MI, i could invite you via the pogo app to join the raid, and you would need to use a remote raid pass.
the discord link i posted is a server i manage, which would be used for coordinating these raids in “real time”.

You don’t get an egg every time you have a slot. Be sure your pokemon storage isn’t maxed out either.

Last night at 1 am I saw a new pokemon on my radar and wandered the neighborhood in my jammies and crocs. It turned out to be a beldum. The cool thing- there was this loud noise coming from a tree that I thought was a frog and then it flew away. I’m pretty sure it was a pair of barn owls. They were flying around over my head back and forth from tree to tree. A car went by and the headlights flashed a light colored giant bird in the trees. Then I ran home before the driver called the police about the loony staring into trees.

Anybody get a shiny Articuno yesterday? Eleven raids, one fled, no shinies. Hopefully I’ll have better luck with shiny Squirtle squad this afternoon.
I don’t play, but I still get notifications about it.
The catch rate for shiny Articuno was 100% (provided you found one), so I’m expecting that some mehmbers got (at least) one.

I went out walking to find Pokemon tonight and met a man and his dog on a bridge. He was playing Pokemon too! We’re now friends!
He showed me game play techniques like how to use berries to calm down Pokemon and that I should be completing field progress and special tasks. Swell guy!

Just a heads’ up - there is an event going on now. Starting yesterday, you will receive double candies for hatching and catching, plus eggs put into an incubator now will hatch in half the time (eggs already incubating aren’t affected). This will go for a week.
Saturday is Zapdos day. From 11am-2pm PT you can raid for Zapdos with the chance of catching a shiny. Shiny Zapdos have a 100% catch rate but there’s only about a 5% chance your Zap will be shiny.
The best creatures for beating the Zapdos raids are Tyranitar and Golem with rock moves (Smack Down/Stone Edge), Dragonite with dragon moves (Dragon Tail/Outrage), and ice creatures with ice moves (notably Piloswine and Jynx).
Also - Both Saturday and Sunday, August 11th and 12th, will be Eeevee Community Day. Since Eevee has five current eeveelutions plus at least an additional two in future generations, get all the candies you can!
Plus there’s a 3x Stardust bonus for any catch and I, for one, need all the stardust I can get. Definitely going to be using my star pieces these days.

This Saturday and Sunday are both Community Days for Eevee. There are currently five eeveelutions in Pokemon Go, with another two coming soon in Generation 4, plus at least one more in further generations. If you like to collect shinies for each 'mon, you’ll need to collect at least nine (if you haven’t used the name trick, then you best hope you get Vaporeon, Flareon, and Jolteon just once).
Since evolving Umbreon and Espreon requires 10 kilometers walked and two buddy candies (plus specific times of day), it’s nice Community Day has been extended.
@emilyap i hadn’t heard 2 the candies rule before, i thought it was just 10k, so e.g. walking an eevee 2k (no candy), then 9k (1 candy) won’t do it?
@Yoda_Daenerys You definitely need two candies. It’s even recommended to restart the app and make sure your GPS is working properly before evolving.

Part Two: earn two buddy candies, make ten great throws, hatch three eggs
Part Three: level up to fifteen, battle in a gym twice, battle in a raid twice
Helpful hint: walk a magikarp for parts three and four because you’ll need all those candies for part six.

@cf1 Eh? Catch them if you have the balls, keep the best, transfer the rest to the professor. Or, if you have the candies, you can use a lucky egg to double your XP, evolve fifty or so pokemon, then transfer them to the professor.
Why start over at a low level just to not catch and not level up? I do not understand.
@cf1 you can appraise as you catch and pitch the low IV/level mons, if you’re into that. gotta catch 'em all is the theme, but it doesn’t say gotta keep 'em all
. it’s an ongoing issue managing storage though, even on my main account which is 1500 mons/1500 items. now with trading you have one more reason to keep a crappy mon because it might become great on a trade re-roll. niantic wants all your attention.

Did my first EX raid today. About 25 people showed up at the park, I was one of five Team Valor players making up a team. We beat a Mewtwo, then anticlimactically everyone disappeared. But I caught a 95.6% level 20 Mewtwo (Stamina 13, attack/defense 15), so it was a good event.
Still waiting on my one accepted friend request to do anything; I sent a gift weeks ago but it hasn’t been opened and they apparently have barely been in the game.

@PlacidPenguin @duodec, the game i play says IV’s don’t matter on shiny, they’re just collector items. not everyone plays the same tho. whether you evolve a shiny larvitar or magikarp, which can be relevant in the current meta, kinda depends on your game goals/philosophy, right?

Kanto (first gen) Pokemon are more common, including rarer ones like the Hitmons, Lapras, and Grimer - through Sep 30th.
Regionals (Mr Mime, Farfetch’d, Kangaskhan, and Tauros) in 7k eggs - through Sep 30th probably.
Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres in raids - through Sep 20th
Mewtwo coming to raids starting Sep 20th. Shadow Ball is being retired from Mewtwo’s moveset, so if you have any Charge TMs try to get it (my luck was not with me so I still have Hyper Beam, also being retired).

@sammydog01 you need to walk to clear your old eggs, then only accept gifts (without spinning any stops/gyms) until your egg spots are full, then rinse, wash, repeat to try your best for the regionals, esp. kanga and mime if you don’t have those… and all the birds raids have the potential for shiny. all this depends on your game play though and what interests you.

trading a mewtwo, if you have none, is 80,000 dust at ultra or 40,000 at best friend, so that’s 3 months out if gifts exchanged everyday.
if you are level 20, i would suggest that’s not a good use of dust and i would only consider it if you had a shiny legendary, or trophius or relicanth in return.

@deathdieeee You get that you have to be physically standing next to someone to trade with them, right? This is a good place to chat about pokemon and get people to send you gifts but we can’t help you with trades. You need to find a local group where you live for that. As for Mewtwo they have been putting legendary pokemon as research rewards so your best bet is either finding friends to raid with or waiting until Mewtwo is available by doing research. I got mine at the mall on Community Day with total strangers.

THE NIGHT OF THE BIG TOURNEY
i was fortunate to be able to travel to montreal with my son and his gf
he’s into pvp (i’m not)
the BIG tourney was saturday night (i think i got 3-4 shiny cats that day)
BUT 2 pairs of lucky friends
we went on the cheap that day, so shared data/hotspot
son and gf went to the tourney early, i arrived just before the scheduled start
i navigated there without data, on foot (proud of myself)
so…, i’m waiting in line to gain admission
several hundred trainers RUN out of the building
my son, his gf, and his data/hotspot included
(there was a 100iv drillbur nearby)
i finished the queue to register
only to be asked what team did i play on
‘all of them’ wasn’t well received?
i took off, down the UP escalator, following the last of the crowd
there were 100’s of lunatics running
through the busy streets of downtown montreal
and people in their cars were, like, “are you all making money or something?”
i reached the dark alley, sadly, already clearing
BUT, i convinced my son (and his hotspot) to hang out while i caught the 6
he was anxious to get back to the tourney
with the delay, there was plenty of time (we now know)
my six, maxed, hundo, Montreal, exadrill may be unique in the game
maybe not though?
it got late, my son wasn’t in line to win
i left, you can’t rent a scooter without data, sadly
i navigated blindly back to the airbnb, without data, on foot
several hours later, off to chase some bad directions to safari zone
walked SO LONG over the wrong bridge to get there

The last few people I knew around here who were playing are dropping off. They went to the Harry Potter game for a while, then dropped it and haven’t come back. I dabbled in the Potter game but it just wasn’t much fun.
Currently have two best friends, one from work, one connected here, but we didn’t manage to sync the promotion, so no double XP.
If we can arrange again that would be great, but don’t expect immediate response from me; unfortunately around October all our customers suddenly realize end of year is near and start hammering us with projects and problems. Lots of extra hours of work coming (and we’re salaried, woohoo!)

@sammydog01 adventure sync uses the accelerometer(s) in the phone to sense “movement”. adventure sync only logs km’s when the game is off (and e.g. google fit is on for android)
the in game km’s while playing do rely on GPS though.
so you put your phone in “the swing” overnight and it clocks between 25-40km while you sleep

@Yoda_Daenerys work makes it hard to do the lunchtime ambling about that I used to do (and I miss it too). Going to have to think about one of those for during the day at work.
Just managed to scrape the coin together for another adventure box (to get incubators) and I’m hatching eggs like crazy till I burn through them again. At about 5-7km/week that I get credit for… meh.
@duodec yea, it’s crazy. put them in incubators when you go to bed, and they all have hatched before your alarm clock goes off.

We were prepared so no need to go out, but also no pokestops nearby, and if we see one or two pokemon wander by its a good day (and with work going insane, even from home, no time to do much). We can schedule doing the egg and gift thing, especially if its evening. I’d appreciate it; my progress this level has been glacial.
@duodec no worries about coordinating. when we get to last interaction i’ll try to be sure i’ve sent you a gift. then you can egg and open at your convenience. that account is already lvl40, so i’m not worried about the extra XP.

@Yoda_Daenerys What is involved? My game time is almost nonexistent the last few months because working from home; I just try to hit the local gyms and stops to get gifts to keep exchanges going (and opportunistic gym entries).
@duodec @looseneck @tinamarie1974 niantic delayed the release of this new feature, until TBD. as i understand it, if i am doing a raid here in MI, i could invite you via the pogo app to join the raid, and you would need to use a remote raid pass.
the discord link i posted is a server i manage, which would be used for coordinating these raids in “real time”.

when i do a t5 raid here in MI, i can invite you to join the lobby remotely; you would need to use a remote pass to join.
