@kdemo definitely for the better. Even though it doesn’t work on my Android (at least not in the places I’ve checked), the fact that it works on my iPad is a Dame Edna-verified miracle.
Until I learned this was a feature on my iPhone, I thought things were just screwing up. I use Gboard so I can swipe text entry, and it turns out I was touching too hard and invoking the cursor control feature.
On Android it’s just the spacebar, but on my iPhone it’s the whole keyboard.
Learning about this also resolved my frustration about sometimes not being able to tap and place the cursor accurately if I noticed a correction needed to be made, for some reason my iPhone is terrible about not doing that accurately.
It’s been in the iphones with 3d touch for some time, but with ios 12 it now works on all the devices (3d touch or not)… but the 3d touch features are missing (like the auto select by reducing pressure then harder pressure) on the devices with no 3d touch screen.
It makes it much easier to get to a specific part of the address bar to fix a typo.
I want to say something just so I can see if it actually works. My mother says my spelling is atrocious. And that’s mostly due to far fingers and too lazy to fix it. Candy. … the only thing that happened was my swipe worked
@Barney - Well, here’s the thing - if you don’t text, you don’t need it . . . so you are copacetic.
As long as you don’t experience nomophobia. Winning!
Maybe you’re just more evolved than the rest of us. People do die in texting accidents. I just read somewhere that cell phones contribute to climate change, so you can just say you want to prolong civilization on Earth.
Does not work on my Samsung Galaxy S7 running Android Marshmallow, disappointingly. This would’ve been so much better/easier than constantly trying to tap on the entry field right where you want the cursor to be!
Works on my android as well.
@kdemo mine is set to change languages, but oh I wish it could do both.
Well, hell. Here I thought I knew it all.
@OldCatLady - It’s okay, now you do!
Holy Jesus lightly toasted on a biscuit, you have changed my life forEVER, @kdemo!
@UncleVinny - I only hope it’s for the better? Always love your turn of phrase.

@UncleVinny -
I’m just adding this post to try this out. It didn’t work on my android with a 3rd party keyboard app, but I do have arrow keys…
What even is this?
Interesting! Will I forget when I actually need it? Likely.
@RiotDemon - How long until you have to go back and remove the “s”?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@djslack - That’s how I learn most phone things - by accident. I mostly use voice-to-text, so must make many corrections.
This feature is new to me, and makes me wonder what else I am missing. If you could just tell me now, it might save a lot of time.

@butter021 - Try tapping the text near where you want the cursor first, then try swiping on the space bar.
Not me. Thank you!
@walarney -
Does this mean I have to take my phone out of the nightstand drawer to try it?

@kdemo What’s it called when you have a fear of having a phone with you? Please don’t say crazy.
@Barney - Technophobia? Telephonophobia?

@kdemo A paper phone? I kinda like that idea.
I’m not real sure civilization deserves my blessing.

@Barney @kdemo
Actually pretty impressive.
I missed the memo on that one too.
In my limited testing it seems less flaky than the iPad version.

@PooltoyWolf nor on S8+
@llangley @PooltoyWolf - Works on my Nexus 5X. Did you try tapping on the line of text first?
@kdemo @llangley Sure did, tried everything!
I discovered this a few weeks ago. Sorry I forgot to mention it.

@eonfifty What else did you forget to mention?
@OldCatLady Um. I forget.
/giphy I forget internet cats
@eonfifty - You can tell me the next thing.
Holy crap! How did you know this has been driving me bonkers lately?? Thank you!
