Who is the worst for model names, and what are some of them?
1Meh likes to make a big deal about model numbers. What companies do you think make it hell for consumers with their model numbers, and what are some of them?
I think Samsung is one of the worst offenders. Every year, they come out with hundreds of confusing phone names. Example: The Samsung Epic Touch 4G, a.k.a. the Samsung Within. It becomes so confusing that rational ignorance comes into play. On purpose, I think.

Mattress companies. They are intentionally impossible to decipher and unique per store so you cannot shop around.
@Pamtha I recently bought a mattress, and this is so true! Same thing with TVs, and many other items at big box and department stores: each chain has their own model number so you can not get their price match guarantee or comparison shop.
@Pamtha I don’t understand the mattress business.
There are 4 Mattress Firm locations at one intersection near here.
That is not counting all the other Sleep Number, American Mattress, etc. stores that are also at the same place.
How many mattresses are people actually buying that it supports all these stores and employees?
@zachdecker
“So a bed with a retail price point of $1,000 probably costs about $250 to make.”

I call all unknown models the Chuck Norris 2000. I just do.
@kar3nk I love this.
I think it’s interesting what people do or come up with when they are faced with the unknown. The unknown in this case being model numbers.

Electrical components (resistors, capacitors, etc.). May I interest you in a Samsung CL21C300GDCNCNC?
(To be fair, many manufacturers encode the specs of the item in the model number so you can usually figure out what you need, but some don’t).
