@olperfesser I agree, but since advertising seems to be a necessary evil of existing in the modern world and consuming popular culture, it might as well at least be interesting and memorable. Most advertising is so boring and indistinct that it makes no impression at all. If people like an ad enough that they share it with friends, then somebody, somewhere, is doing something right.
@olperfesser A lot of the memorable commercials are about brand recognition. I may not need or want it today, but I may 6 months from now. And I'll likely remember the guys with the cute/funny/amazing commercial before anyone else.
My favorites:
all of the Terry Crews stuff for Old Spice makes me lose it
@Lotsofgoats Terry >>>>>>>> the man your man could smell like
@Lotsofgoats
and
@Lotsofgoats Terry just has an intensity that the rest of the Human race lacks.

No matter how good, they are still ads, trying to get you to buy something whether you need it or even want it.

Does anyone else remember the Tasters Choice mini series of commercials? I remember thinking, "Is instant coffee really that sexy?"
Carls Jr.
The southern comfort guy on the beach
I have no earthly idea what kind of company EDS is, but I will always remember their commercial.
@Purplefeather Agreed. I still reference "herding cats." BTW - EDS is an IT company.
