He asked me the other day what was going on in the story line but as I tried to explain it, I realized how many twists and turns it has taken lately and how it sounds completely insane if you try to explain it. I enjoy it though.

I had this exact same design done up yesterday, but opted not to submit it because I didn’t want to do another “old lady” one. Glad somebody did it.

@mehnyblooms - the, uh, talent. Yes, well…

If you open the main picture on a Windows pc, righ-click, and Save Image As… you can save it to the Picture folder on your c:\ drive. Do the same with a picture you think it would be amusing to stick HoverKid in.

Then you can use Windows Explorer to locate both pictures. Right-click the amusing-landscape picture and select Open With, then select Paint. Once you have the amusing landscape open in Paint, do the same with the HoverKid picture.

On the Home toolbar in Paint you will see a resize option. Leaving the Maintain Aspect Ratio radio button selected, reset either the horizontal or vertical percentage to less than 80%. Then click the menu under Select and select transparent selection. With the image selected with either rectangular or free-form selection, click the Copy control.

Now switch to the amusing landscape you already opened in Paint. Again, click the menu under Select and select transparent selection. Now click the Paste command (or press the CTRL and V keys).

HoverKid is now pasted into the image, but his size is probably wrong. Again, use the resize option and reset either the horizontal or vertical percentage to a percentage appropriate to HoverKid’s size in the picture. Drag the already-selected image to an appropriate position in the landscape. Use Save As to save your version of the picture, just in case you decide some change might be necessary.

Once the image is to your liking, you’re done!

Next week: using the Rotate tool to re-orient HoverKid within a landscape.

Whoo-hoo! You go, @sammydog01 ! Just a few words on image cleanup - you probably want to correct the light-colored spots outlining the inserted image. In Paint you’re pretty limited, but you can use the Color Picker (eyedropper) tool on the Home menu to select nearby colors, then use the Pencil tool to overwrite the light-colored pixels. From the Home menu switch to the View menu so you can zoom in and pick off each offending pixel.

Just FYI, we got a transparent background off the original HoverKid image mostly because it was a .png file. Had it been a .jpg, you would have had to outline the desired section of image using the Free-Form Selection (lasso) tool, and there would have been lots more cleanup!

@aetris After I followed your instructions the copy command wouldn’t work. Yeah, I probably did something wrong. I used free-form and transparent and managed to draw around that creepy kid and then could copy it. I downloaded the photo from the post instead of using the linked one. I should probably go back and mess with it, but meh.

@sammydog01 - I could make those instructions better. When you open Paint the whole picture is pre-selected by default, but as soon as you change tools it’s no longer selected.

@aetris They were almost, but not quite idiot proof. If you ever need something idiot tested, let me know.

Before I forget - this thing works a bit better than I expected, but is painful to wear in a way that puts the speakers in the right position. It’s no good for music anyway, but is OK for recorded-book type stuff. I’ll probably keep it in the car for phone calls. You have to be careful when adjusting it to avoid hitting its external controls.

@medz I have to wonder if these prizes are the stuff meh gets sent to sample, but might not make it to the big show.

@lichme That thought had crossed my mind too, although you’d think if companies wanted meh and their other companies to sell stuff they’d send good things. I am thinking another choice would be these might be items from their fulfillment center that either arrived damaged or were returned as damaged and they were told to dispose of them rather than send back.

Might be worth getting a quieter fan for this thing. Appears to be just a normal PC case fan, so should be pretty easy and cheap. I’ll have to open it up to be sure.
