I’m all over the place with music in what I like (except for country, Indian, and K–pop). But I long ago noticed that of all of the songs that I consider my all-time favorites invariably always have a strong melody driving it.
Intense chill; in other words, classical, when I am doing something I don’t want to have my attention taken from.
When I want mental inspiration, give me Herbie Hancock, Dave Brubeck, or such (or maybe even some Stockhausen; go to about the 23 minute mark, if it is happening too slowly for you).
Most other times, give me classic rock and roll = 70’s, give or take 5 or 10.
Classical music when I just want semi-neutral background, and soundtracks like John Williams when I went more than that, and if I’m really in the mood, I queue up the soundtrack reworks by Samuel Kim on YouTube. And, of course, trailer music. If you don’t know what it is, check out Two Steps From Hell. Oh, and Weird Al. Because Weird Al.
I have simillar preferences to phendrick, above, although I am sure there are differences. My go-to for quiet relaxation and thoughtful activities: Bach’s Goldberg Variations, which are intense and chill in different sections. Not enough time (or ink) to list many other classical or jazz, or folk or folk-rock choices.
It really depends on my mood, but Spotify currently has Bob Marley, Shania Twain, Blue Swede, Eminem, Powerline, and the Acacia Strain listed as my recent searches and the rest of my searches are true crime podcasts and witchy stuff… so… do with that what you will…
Exactly. Something is so much better than nothing.
Glam Rock. Like the stuff from the Peacemaker TV show.
Progressive Celtic - About as middlin’ as you can get.

@phendrick I have similar preferences!
@andyw @phendrick
Me too! I probably listen to the pop most often, but definitely everything you’ve listed would be my preference too.
@andyw @phendrick A little while ago this came on and it was so perfect for the day - it’s warm, sunny/cloudy, just starting to feel like spring…
@phendrick Stockhausen - have you seen his scores? They’re so crazy-looking! And usually enormous.
@Kyeh @phendrick Thanks, it is very Spring-like and nice!
Yes, mood dependent.
Something new.

@2many2no I adore Type O! I got to see them a few time before Peter Steele passed on. RIP

@TheCO2 I know Industrial music isn’t supposed to be sexy, but this song is (still) hot.
@fait This has been my favorite band since I first saw them in '98.
Anything with Leon, Ian, Mayall, or Al on it…especially Al!
Pat Metheny
@rtjhnstn
Oh, YES! What’s happened to him?
I saw him in concert a couple of times in the 80s.
Fin.

Depends on my mood
Haley Reinhart
She grew up in the town next to me.
Her parents also play in a band and are really good. Midnight band.
Almost anything with a monster hook.
