I’ve managed to hit all the choices at one time or another.
(“Never visit family” is the current one, since they’ve all pretty much died off now. Except for my son, who lives in the same town as I, so when we visit, we each stay at our separate places.)

Over the years we have stayed in:
guest bedrooms
living rooms (sleeper sofa)
any available floor space (blow up mattress) separate free standing guest houses
tents
RV campers
neighbor’s houses and
hotel/airbnb/VRBO etc
depending on who or where we’re visiting.
prefer to stay in my own RV (camper on pickup truck). if they have a place to park that is all I need. plugging-in power is nice but not required. problem is some I would visit (in-law relatives; the only kind I have left) live in foo-foo « tract mansion » neighborhoods with huge low-quality houses with no driveway space or street parking, and probably HOA rules against it.
Currently in an airb&b (because my sister refuses to allow any of her siblings to stay in her 4 bedroom no kids live at home house) but in the past most of those choices.
I’m still sleeping in the room I’ve been sleeping in since I was a year old. Checkmate.
@PooltoyWolf
Nightly… Or just when you visit family?
@chienfou I live with my parents. (I was trying to make it sound cooler.)
@PooltoyWolf
I was going with “still living in the house I grew up in”.
Hotel and then guest room.
I know where the motel is.
Drunk.
Where they tell me I can sleep.

On the floor in the walkspace at the foot of the bed
@Wireball_ better than under the floor in the crawlspace.
Different family have different living situations so it depends on who I’m visiting.

And I realized that, thinking about it further, we have all those options available to us currently for anyone that comes visit!
@chienfou, yup. You make it work whatever their situation.
@chienfou, I have a guest room and sofa but no air mattress.

Meh says… “Have we got a deal for you…!”

@Kidsandliz sounds like there’s some backstory there!
We have a large family, we rent a VRBO.
…“far far away” should have been an option
