Anyone ever have a Coffee People Black Tiger espresso? Man, they made a shake with that ... a quad shot BTE with a few extra ground beans sprinkled into a vanilla shake ... That would keep you up long enough to pilot New Horizons to Pluto and back
@brhfl the rate of flow is different, though... cuz ~*fancy*~ drip uses a flannel filter whereas pourover usually sticks with the paper ones (edit: this is a coffee thread and thus this was bound to happen)
@bluedog that's like saying you refuse to order a steak because you have a freezer full of white castles. Keurig coffee tastes like hot water with 3 brown crayons.
@saodell Granted, a LOT of the kcups do taste like lukewarm brown crayon water. But, there are a handful of roasts that are pretty decent. REVV and Reindeer Blend are my two favs.
@brhfl That's the power of marketing. The coffee pods that predated Keurig was just the paper filter and coffee ... but apparently that wasn't enough to capitalized on. And nowadays, the Keurig machines implement DRM aspects, restricting their usage to their own cups. Screw that!
(It's actually pretty easy to circumvent that, but still.)
@saodell Well, it depends. Ironically, the best keurig coffee is from a company called San Francisco Bay. The coffee is rich and bold, and it's really good. I say ironically because it
What is wrong with you people who don't drink coffee!!??? Home: donut shop k-cup with flavored creamer Local shop: salted caramel latte Starbucks: venti triple skinny caramel macchiatto, 140 degrees. roller derby practice: Monster Java - mocha or mean bean.
it makes me sad that when I order a macchiato, the barista will often clarify that "it's not like a Starbucks macchiato" FHGFJGHG YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT IT BETTER NOT BE
I usually get a macchiato or breve. If I make it at home I use my 6 cup moka pot and drink it all with a little sugar. For the price they make pretty decent espresso.
@lisaviolet What if all I can think is that is Papa Smurf even though I know it isn't. Hopefully it's not Grumpy cause I'm really not. Just an inveterate trouble maker.
@lisaviolet Happily I've never seen the cartoon. I demand the live Mary Martin-only version. It's kind of like those abominable Disney versions of Pooh, when the original illustrations were perfection IMO.
COFFEE! I drink regular ass COFFEE!! Maybe with a little half and half. NOT some fancy ass, pribbling tickle-brained flap-dragon concoction that some skinny jeaned, scarf clad hipster wannabe in over sized sunglasses and a slouch hat up in Seattle smoked up in a brake room somewhere (not that I'm all that against smoking some up in a break room somewhere). And I REFUSE to drink it out of a venti/ grande/ tall cup. Which one is the big ass cup, that's all I want! I WANT A BIG ASS CUP OF REGULAR COFFEE WITH A SPLASH OF HALF AND HALF IN IT YOU PRETENTIOUS DOUCHE CLOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing sadder than assuming all people who like X are of Type Y. Sad. Shitty way to go through life.
Cracks me up ... but I'm betting 100 times in my life I've been in a coffee shop and there's a 70 year old in line in front or behind me, complaining about how expensive the drinks are or how silly the names are. Always wonder, why are you in line then?
@narfcake I had one of those way back in my twenties- There was a semi-common (for the time) pre-fine-ground Brazilian(?) brand that was around then. That combo was fuckin rocket fuel.
Was going to say the convenience marts near me don't have baristas, but on second thought some of them actually do now. I'll throw a crappy espresso shot in some plain ole drip now and then though, when I have to work way too late or something.
Double latté. Period. No additives, no sugar, no fancy whozits.
Usually I make them at home in my Capresso EC PRO. I prefer the pump-style machine to the boiler-style that's on sale today. (I think those are the right terms. I'm not a fanatic.)
Once or twice a week I'll get my latté at Three Forks because they have awesome baked goods or at Caroline's Coffee Roasters because that's where I get my beans.
I don't haunt coffee shops.. I refuse to help send kids I don't know through college. Starbuck's coffee is lined with gold.. Gotta take out a small loan for a cup.
My poison is locally roasted, and follows the rule of 15s. Coffee should be roasted within 15 months of harvest. Coffee should be ground within 15 days of roast. Coffee should be brewed within 15 minutes of grind.
My favorite poison is siphon-brewed, but that's not as common as I wish it was. When it is not available, which is most of the time, I do pour-over, with an occasional espresso or cappuccino thrown in. (Latte's have too much milk, if I wanted milk, I'd drink it.)
I have recently developed a taste for iced coffee, cold brewed, with no milk or sugar.
Oh, and if you want a serious caffeine high, look up black blood of the earth. Yes, it's a real thing. Yes it's coffee.
If I ever have an extra couple grand will get one of those super automatic machines.
I love experimenting at home and probably will try PourOver soon but I might like my coffee a bit hotter than what I have read is the ideal temp ... Love the AeroPress extraction but have the same issue with this and the temp not being hot enough!
Can get a pretty good shot out of my Saeco Poemia with a non-pressurized portafilter but for the no fuss and great strong coffee use a moca pot but since I don't have a very large one I do heat up a small bit of milk/cocoa in a Capresso which really does make an excellent froth btw.
@fjp999 Been partial to Saeco machines since they sponsored the Lion King, Super Mario Cippolini. Best years of bike racing were when he battled Tom Steels et all behind the Red Train.
@saodell Thanks for the info! Totally into cycling too. Are there any YT vids or other places I can go to for more info? Knowing what I know now I might have made it in pro cycling... but I fucking love being on any one of my bicycles. I probably have MORE of a variety of bicycles than I have of coffee machines!
@fjp999 If you get super auto, get a Jura. We have one at work, and it's not too shabby. I'ts not great, but it's sturdy, drinkable and we don't waste coffee
I don't really buy coffee at a shop, but I do have a crummy little Keurig machine for those rare occasions where I consume coffee. I usually throw in some chocolate or milk when I make coffee, so I guess I'll say Mocha.
Since I drink it rarely, I usually end up paying for it a few days later with caffeine withdrawal headaches.
anyone else drink black blood of the earth? we have some i like a shot of it in milk.
my office has k-cups ad i hate them, some flavors have artifical sweeteners which i am allergic to, and since they just keep refiling the boxes in the stand they have, i can't always see the ingredients.
starbucs tastes burnt. i will drink coffee form coffee bean and tea leaf or peets, but i just plain prefer iced tea.
@vampje Do you happen to have a http://www.onecupjoe.com/ store or similar place where you can buy K-Cups in singles so you can try out lots of flavors quickly?
@vampje know it well cause my daughter knows the guy that does BBotE. What part of the world you from? I would guess so cal because of the CBTL ref. I can give you some ideas for better than them or peets or head over to coffeegeek.com - says it all
@vampje lots of great places for coffee in LA. Demitasse is in little tokyo, try Intelligentsia in silverlake. Look up G&B or gogettemtiger for awesome coffee milkshakes. stumptown and blue bottle are in the arts district. there is not a great coffee map for LA like there is for the SF Bay. Verve is opening a brand new place, i forget where in town it is. good luck!
@narfcake if there was an in-n-out ANYWHERE near me... double double i refer to is coffee with 2 sugars and 2 creams. the terminoligy is mainly Canadian, mainly a Tim Hortons thing.
They banned coffee makers at work so I discovered the French Press for my coffee. The best! Even got a coffee mill (mill not grinder) and found someone in town who roasts beans. *$s can't touch the flavor! How many people out there realize coffee is naturally sweet. It loses a lot of flavor in the first week after roasting.
Coffee is for grown-ups. I mostly drink beer - which just like cigarettes, (most) advertisers target to the under 18 crowd. Keeps me young . . .
Anyone ever have a Coffee People Black Tiger espresso? Man, they made a shake with that ... a quad shot BTE with a few extra ground beans sprinkled into a vanilla shake ... That would keep you up long enough to pilot New Horizons to Pluto and back
free sugar and tongue depressors...
Pourover. Which is a fancy and expensive word for drip.
@brhfl Yeah, but the difference is they use new coffee for every new cup. Drip implies that you make a pot.
@brhfl the rate of flow is different, though... cuz ~*fancy*~ drip uses a flannel filter whereas pourover usually sticks with the paper ones (edit: this is a coffee thread and thus this was bound to happen)
@brhfl not all use paper, some use metal. But drip in most parts of the US implies coffee pot like Mr. Coffee. And personally, that's a big no
@andrewpatrick @lotsofgoats @Cerridwyn I was serious about my choice being pourover. And half-serious when I mocked it.
@brhfl it's a quality preference
@brhfl yup
Hazelnut macchiato, extra shot of espresso - iced.
@Thumperchick yesss, so good!
Flat white. So, so good.
ETA: I feel like I should add that I have been drinking them for the last decade, and that *$'s version is... Lacking.
@zarhooie It's not as good as I anticipated
I like purple.
@zarhooie yeah flat whites are delicious, but starbucks' is too littlw for too much
@Barney holy shit I just realized that you are the Febrewary goat!!
I refuse to waste money on overpriced drinks at a coffee shop. I'd rather drink my Caribou Reindeer Blend from my home Keurig.
I like purple.
@saodell Does anyone else just cringe and squirm at how absolutely wasteful kcups are? I find the whole thing pretty unbelievable.
@brhfl I HATE HATE HATE them. Shitty, outrageously-priced coffee in unnecessarily wasteful packaging.
@saodell Well, it depends. Ironically, the best keurig coffee is from a company called San Francisco Bay. The coffee is rich and bold, and it's really good. I say ironically because it
@brhfl Plus, I don't know anyone whose machine lasted more than 18 months.
I like to ask for a Sanka before I place my actual order. Every once in a while someone remembers Sanka.
@cercopithecoid Several years ago, my mom ran across a coupon good for any size jar of Sanka. No expiration date! Save 7 cents!
@cercopithecoid Ha, I've had Sanka in my youth. Don't forget Brim too.
Until I can afford a high end espresso machine it's mokapot and whipped milk with the Bodum spindle.
@c0ldfuse Nothing wrong with a nice moka!
@brhfl Moka pots and French press always always always win taste tests. Did I mention, always?
@saodell Did not know that! The only two methods I use at home, though the French press pulls double duty as my cold brewer.
A pure columbian and peruvian blend, hold the coffee.
What is wrong with you people who don't drink coffee!!??? Home: donut shop k-cup with flavored creamer
Local shop: salted caramel latte
Starbucks: venti triple skinny caramel macchiatto, 140 degrees.
roller derby practice: Monster Java - mocha or mean bean.
I may be drinking coffee now. I like it a lot.
macchiato
it makes me sad that when I order a macchiato, the barista will often clarify that "it's not like a Starbucks macchiato" FHGFJGHG YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT IT BETTER NOT BE
(╯ಠ益ಠ)╯︵┻━┻
@Lotsofgoats espresso machiato for me too. No milk, just a nice cap of foam.
Coffee
I usually get a macchiato or breve. If I make it at home I use my 6 cup moka pot and drink it all with a little sugar. For the price they make pretty decent espresso.
Why are we asking such boring questions? Does anyone really care about the results of these polls?
@smoo99 why not? yes.
@smoo99 Gaaw it's like so boring typing about these questions that are like so even more boring. Stomps foot.
@smoo99 You're here, aren't you?
BTW, your name reminds me of
@lisaviolet What if all I can think is that is Papa Smurf even though I know it isn't. Hopefully it's not Grumpy cause I'm really not. Just an inveterate trouble maker.
@smoo99 It's Smee! From Peter Pan.
@lisaviolet Happily I've never seen the cartoon. I demand the live Mary Martin-only version. It's kind of like those abominable Disney versions of Pooh, when the original illustrations were perfection IMO.
@smoo99 Here's another version with Bob Hoskins as Smee
@lisaviolet Smee being an essential NYT crossword answer, not to be confused with snee which allegedly is some sort of sword thingy.
My usual drink is a "Shot in the dark" Made with steamed cold brew coffee and a shot of espresso on top.
@Eron Are you capable of sleeping?
@Eron Yeek I read that as Snot in the Dark. New drinking Terrible possibility?
White chocolate mocha, drinking my second one of the day now.
I like purple.
@Barney Me too!
@iluvmingos Happy purple!
COFFEE! I drink regular ass COFFEE!! Maybe with a little half and half.

@Ayer87 You like ass coffee? In an ass cup? We have much in common...
@Ayer87 - Maybe you could do with a little less? ;)
@AssButt ass coffee rocks! It has quite the dark chocolate (almost fudge like you could say) undertones to it!!
@KDemo [/IMG]
@AssButt @Ayer87 Obligatory.

@Ayer87 Really? You put something in your coffee? At my house, coffee is served black. No sugar.
@AssButt That's one cup I'd rather have half empty than half full.
@Ayer87
mmmm... double shot Cappuccino... mmmmm
the place int he office tower next to work makes agave matcha lattes, and damn the are delicious; and it is such a frou frou drink.
@vampje Why is it green?
@SSteve it's a green tea latte
@SSteve matcha powder, frothed milk and agave to sweeten it a little
@SSteve Why isn't it purple?
@brhfl I like purple.
Keys to the restroom
@matthew
@The_Baron This @matthew kid has promise. I think he might be able to do something with his talents someday.
Whatever gets me caffeine
At home, moka pot. Out and about, whatever is their standard fare. At the office, drip is what's available.
In any case, none of the HFCS-laden, artificially flavored shit. That's not coffee.
The closest I come to coffee is a Jamocha shake at Arbys, but I had one in Arkansas one time that had way too much mocha.
@SoyBJS Remember when they mixed em by hand.... and you would get that delicious sweet-coffee ribbon every once in a while, man I miss that.
Double latté. Period. No additives, no sugar, no fancy whozits.

@narfcake Now $6!
@narfcake Oh, the irony of printing that on a cheap shirt and selling it for $18.
@AlohaSnackbar $15; they haven't been able to command $18 on the back catalog shirts for quite a while now.

Alas, coffee makes me reallllllly sick. I love the way it smells and tastes, and can make a mean cold brew. I just can't drink it. :(
But I do enjoy interesting teas and steamers and cocoas. A chai or earl grey latte is my usual go-to - or whatever they've got as a house iced tea.
Quad Americano, cream, half shot vanilla.
@stevo42 Mmm I love a good Americano.
In the rare chance I go: Raspberry Mocha with a dash of Cinnamon
Hella good deal

Whatever is the most free.
I just drive to my Local Tim Hortons, order an XL Double Double, had over $2.15, and enjoy.
@earlyre Meh. This is a Double-Double
@narfcake if there was an in-n-out ANYWHERE near me... double double i refer to is coffee with 2 sugars and 2 creams. the terminoligy is mainly Canadian, mainly a Tim Hortons thing.
Beer brewed with coffee. Backcountry Brewery makes a great one found it at GABF in Denver a few years ago. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2877/11046/
Decaf blonde roast... Medium if they don't have decaf in blonde/light roast.

@gommiebears blame the coffee for the smell.... :)
