I have a porch swing an and currently no porch (and I just sold the swing frame, although not the swing since that is from my grandmother’s porch and was new in the 1950’s), a glider and currently no place to put it, a hammock and hammock stand and no where to put it, and the weather around here is too hot to stay outside very long in the summer (and the summer is too long in that respect) and it would appear they don’t spray for bugs around here either so being eaten alive is definitely a high probability event even if I had a porch, etc. to use outdoor furniture on. I would not buy any outdoor furniture stuff (even if I had money) if that is what you are trying to determine with this poll.
@mehcuda67 On Florida’s central gulf coast, if my friends and their friends are any indication, it just means “screened outdoor space.” So if you have a screened pool, that’s a lanai; if you have a screened patio, that’s a lanai; and if you are a condo dweller with a screened balcony, that’s somehow still a lanai.
I have a stoop and a driveway shared with all the neighbors. Guess there’s a front yard, but it’s basically just there to be between the place and the road
@spitfire6006006 I once lived in a 8 car garage that had been turned into 3 apartments (2 garage parking spot sizes each) with 2 of the bays still for parking cars. Two of our doors opened out directly into the alley (the other opened out into a fence that was behind the garage). We had to look both ways before stepping out of our front door.
I have a porch in the front, a deck in the back, and a small brick patio some previous homeowner put in. There’s a glider on the porch, a table and some chairs on the deck, and I can hang a hammock between a couple trees when the fancy strikes.
@RiotDemon I guess I lied and I have a patio, not a porch. i picked porch because the seating area is covered, but according to one of those answers the difference is whether it’s raised or ground level.
i mean I also have a patio outside of the cover, but the chairs are on the porchalso patio.
i definitely knew it wasn’t a veranda because no one ever did declare it was so hot out here and offer me some iced tea, and that always happens on verandas in polite company.
@djslack I picked porch because that’s what most people here call it when it’s covered and screened in. Patio seems pretty interchangeable, but usually uncovered. Lanai is usually reserved for rooms with windows.
Maybe I should offer someone a mint julep so I can call it a veranda.
Very small, dirty concrete patio. I sometimes consider purchasing a chair and sitting out there. Haven’t done it yet, though.
It is bounded on one side by a sliding glass door, and the other two by a shrub and a brick wall. You can really feel the claustrophobia. It faces, in order, a sidewalk, a parking lot, and another apartment building.
i don’t know the difference between a patio and a porch so i just said “patio”. i didn’t want to vote “I have one of these but I don’t know what the hell the difference is” because i know what a lenai is and that made me feel special.
One of the coolest things when the Mrs. & I were looking for some land on which to build a home, was this development who in their rules stated that every house MUST have a front porch (among other things, of course). We thought that was a very cool idea. Now we enjoy sitting on our porch, waving at the neighbors. Kind of “Olde Timey” but we just love it!
Covered front porch with a glider. Second-level deck/balcony in the back with a couple chairs, a small table and some potted plants. Paved patio below the balcony with a large iron and tile table and 6 chairs. Hammock and a couple chairs in the woods at the edge of the yard.
We have a detached wooden deck with kind of a pergola on it. It’s surrounded by flowers, shrubs, bird feeders, ferns and a little pond with a fountain. Heaven in the summer. We spend hours watching the birds swoop in and out. No wonder I never go anywhere.
I have a deck on 2 sides of the house, a porch on the back, a pool just outside of the screened porch, seating is also in the grass by the pool, plus seating by the fire pit - which is by none of the other items. (for obvious reasons)
A very small inset (covered by the second floor) front porch, too small to have a chair out. And a 12’ square uncovered concrete patio in back where the A/C and the barbecue sit. We are allowed 2 pots/planters, and could have chairs and/or a patio table. Gas grill or electric ok but no charcoal, no smoker, no firepit, etc.
But our tree got sick and was removed, and the back fence was taken out because it cost too much to maintain so our back patio is 6’ from the street, across which is the front yards of our neighbors, so there is zero privacy or noise reduction and if there’s water in the street or gutter, passing cars spray halfway across the patio.
So we grill and cook outside but otherwise just don’t use it any more.

I have a 6’x15’ front porch, a 10’x20’ screen room, and a 10’X20’ deck/balcony on top of the screen room. My structural outdoor space is roughly the same number of square feet as my indoor space. I also have two canopied swings, a conversational corner with trellis, and a park bench out in the yard. I spend about as much time outdoors as in.

I’m too lazy to google lanai, but that sounds like a pretty good thing to have.

@sammydog01 Looks pretty good to me too.

Just a lil stoop.

2 decks and a porch
Deck in New York, lanai in Florida. I miss that lanai, I’d sit there around sunset and do homework/grade papers.
Honestly, I go to the park more often than I use my deck.
Covered brick paver… patio? lanai? And a balcony. Do those count?

@daveinwarsh you forgot to list the crutch.
I live in an apartment.
There are a couple benches outside the building, though. Not sure if that counts.

@moondrake I feel like this is how you’d describe the place if you were planning a heist haha

I have a porch with a very good view of the red light in town. It’s just the most fascinating thing.
@cranky1950
I’m guessing it’s real crazy at 3am on Saturday nights? World center of wild nightlife and clublife?
