I don’t have the second or third, the first does get used. Least used item? Probably the backup Sunbeam mixer. As far as I can recall, it has not been plugged in since it was cleaned and tested.
@hammi99 Thanks for reminding me. Ours has been sitting in the corner of my office unopened for probably 7 years waiting for me to bring home an animal.
@hammi99 I’ll add to that our electric meat slicer. We brought it home when we cleaned out my mom’s house 20 years ago. It seemed like it could be useful, but after a few test runs early on, it got put on a back shelf and never touched again.
Ugh, there are many. Small stuff like coddled egg cups, medium-sized like fancy cake pans, and then there’s a small deep-fat-fryer I bought in a fit of lunacy one time back before air-fryers came out; I’ve never used it.
@Kyeh I have a fryer too. They are nearly useless imho because they don’t get hot enough. Probably a safety thing. Your food ends up really oily which will kill you anyway.
@ebatch@speediedelivery
Yup the mandolin has to be mine. I wanted it to shred zucchini for zucchini bread but them we got some bowls that had a top that’s a grater and way easier/safer to use.
@ebatch I bought one also - it gets occasional use and I have to say that once we found the right technique, the results aren’t half bad. But its most important function is to serve as a deterrent to buying bags of chips at the store since, you know, we have that chip maker at home.
Just want to mention I bought a new gadget Friday that I think I’ll use a lot. It’s a Panasonic 4in1 microwave/broiler/air fryer/convection oven. I made chips and cheese with the broiler tonight. I’m excited to try out all its capabilities.
@chienfou There’s a clever trick they use. You don’t run it in microwave mode with any of the metal accessories that came with it. If you do plan on doing that be sure to get the extended warranty with accidental damage protection. Top tip.
@blaineg@brennyn@yakkoTDI Awesome pizza cutter, I’m a total trekkie! That being said, since the saucer portion spins, its more of a functionally accurate depiction of the USS Discovery…still cool as hell but just saying…
Hmm… I hate to cook. But you have to cook to eat. For the last 5 weeks have had to use the stove to boil water since we can’t drink ours or I would have said the stove except for one burner.
@capnjb@katbyter
What are hibber jibbers? I can’t find them. I had to look up the pan bc I’d never herd of it but it looks retry cool and those little donut/cake things look yummy. Do you fill them with jam?
@katbyter@Star2236 They aren’t terribly difficult to make. It’s really easy if you grab one of those Bisquick Shake-n-pours. Pancake batter works fine… the authentic recipes are a bit more work, but wonderful if you’re working with buttermilk. There is a bit of a learning curve when you start. I’d only recommend using lower heat than you’d think to begin with and fill them more than half way. What ever fat you use is going to burn quickly if it’s too hot. Also, until you get really comfortable with the process don’t try to fill them. I made two really good ham and cheese aebleskivers and an awful lot of burned and/or open ones. I use a pair of chopsticks to turn them. Watch some youtube videos to figure out the process. They are basically handheld pancakes you can dip in jam, syrup or honey. They are so good, but it’s easy for them to go sideways. This is a cheap pan I have. It works fine on flat top stoves and gas. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ZUAFL4/
@capnjb@katbyter
I think your info was good. I have a flat top stove and not all pans are equivalent when cooking on it so that’s good to know. Thanks I put it on my Amazon list.
@sjk3 Yep - our KitchenAid stand mixer got regular use when our kids were still at home, making breads, cookies, cakes, etc. Now I can’t remember the last time it was put to use.
I have two 4 shelve racks filled with my extra baking and cooking stuff. And I still have stuff lying around. I may use it only once in a while but I won’t part with it bc I do use it. I love to bake and cook.
The garbage disposal.
It’s in the back corner of one of the cabinets, I think. And I don’t remember what it is.
This thing:
/image plastic banana slicer
I can’t remember if it was Meh or Woot but it was definitely not something I bought voluntarily.
@awk So you have regret but not instant regret?
Danish Dough Whisk. I use it maybe 10 times a year but it’s worth the drawer space it takes up.
Ice cream maker.
@kittykat9180 same
I don’t have the second or third, the first does get used. Least used item? Probably the backup Sunbeam mixer. As far as I can recall, it has not been plugged in since it was cleaned and tested.
Meat grinder!
@hammi99 Thanks for reminding me. Ours has been sitting in the corner of my office unopened for probably 7 years waiting for me to bring home an animal.

The Montel Williams blender, I had to have

Double boiler
Stove
Some microwaveable potato chip maker thing I bought here YEARS ago
@ebatch I used the mandolin for cucumbers until the blade got dull. I tried the microwave part once and tossed it.
@ebatch @speediedelivery
Oh yeah… I remember those. I think I still have one in a cabinet someplace (unopened of course)
@ebatch @speediedelivery

The Kitchen…

@tweezak
It still weirds me out to have a metal rack inside a microwave. That’s some dark magic!!
@chienfou There’s a clever trick they use. You don’t run it in microwave mode with any of the metal accessories that came with it. If you do plan on doing that be sure to get the extended warranty with accidental damage protection. Top tip.
Pasta maker. Haven’t been used in years, as my folks still have about 50 pounds of pasta, courtesy of a certain site.
Any cutting device that isn’t a knife.
@brennyn Even a pizza cutter???
http://imgur.com/gallery/RLG6gkx
@sicc574 I find that using a regular knife and cutting with a rocking motion makes cleaner cuts with less effort.
There are dedicated pizza knives too, but I don’t eat enough pizza to justify one.
@brennyn @sicc574 EAT MOAR PIZZA!!!
/giphy eat moar pizza
@brennyn @sicc574 @yakkoTDI Boldly go!
@blaineg @brennyn @sicc574 @yakkoTDI
That’s pretty cool. Do you own one?
I’ve been tempted to get a bicycle pizza cutter but they don’t look very sturdy.
@blaineg @brennyn @yakkoTDI Awesome pizza cutter, I’m a total trekkie! That being said, since the saucer portion spins, its more of a functionally accurate depiction of the USS Discovery…still cool as hell but just saying…
POPSOCKETS! ROAD ROCKETS! SONNY CROCKETT! AWESOME!
@brennyn @sicc574 @yakkoTDI I bought it during ThinkGeek’s going out of business sale.
There’s also an Enterprise D, but I think it looks silly, since the D’s saucer is oval.
Definitely the juicer that’s still in the box.
So so so so many. But I use my InstantPot and air fryer connnnnnstantly.
Hmm… I hate to cook. But you have to cook to eat. For the last 5 weeks have had to use the stove to boil water since we can’t drink ours or I would have said the stove except for one burner.
Aebleskiver pan. It does get used, but very infrequently.
@capnjb mine just came out of semi-retirement as my sons both requested “hibber-jibbers” for their birthdays.
@capnjb @katbyter
What are hibber jibbers? I can’t find them. I had to look up the pan bc I’d never herd of it but it looks retry cool and those little donut/cake things look yummy. Do you fill them with jam?
@katbyter @Star2236 I’m guessing hibber-jibbers are the most funnestest way of saying aebleskivers. And they are tasty
@capnjb @katbyter
I wanna make them now.
@katbyter @Star2236 They aren’t terribly difficult to make. It’s really easy if you grab one of those Bisquick Shake-n-pours. I rambled.

We have a very nice mandoline that gets used once or twice a year slicing potatoes for french fry purposes.
Standing mixer. Who makes bread and cakes from scratch anymore?
@sjk3 Me! I love making bread! Cakes however are a different story.
@sjk3
I use my stand mixer at Christmas time for cookies.
@sjk3 Yep - our KitchenAid stand mixer got regular use when our kids were still at home, making breads, cookies, cakes, etc. Now I can’t remember the last time it was put to use.
A microplane. I’ve used it in some recipes to zest citrus, but mostly it just hangs out for a year at a time.
@Tripod2
I just mine to zest my Meyer lemons when they are ripe to make limoncello. Otherwise it gets used occasionally to grate fresh nutmeg.
It’s a tie 'tween the stand mixer and the big food processor.
Fondue set. Had 20 years for a wedding gift still in its original package, lmao
@youragrammrnazi
/youtube Namibia needs your fondue sets
kitchen aid stand mixer, had to have it and seldom use it.
Food processor
I have two 4 shelve racks filled with my extra baking and cooking stuff. And I still have stuff lying around. I may use it only once in a while but I won’t part with it bc I do use it. I love to bake and cook.
@Star2236 I’m that way too. Some baking stuff you don’t need very often but when you do, nothing else will do.
Food vacuum sealer, used it all the time for cheese, wife can no longer eat dairy so no more cheese. Since then the silly thing has not been touched.
Zester, Mandolin slicer, dehydrator (I wanna use it more but I dont)
One word… Fondoodler
@Jdub Yep. Fun to play with a couple of times, but nobody wants to clean it.
@troy we screwed the pooch on that deal…
