@sammydog01 The bean and ham soup I have cooking right now.
Pony’s bean and ham soup
1 to 1.5 lbs dry pinto beans
1 ham bone with lots of meat
8 cups Low Sodium chicken broth
chopped onion, a couple handfuls
4 cloves garlic, minced
A few carrots, chopped
A couple shakes of seasoned salt
Place ham bone in large slow cooker
Rinse beans and pour in around ham bone
Add onions, garlic and seasoned salt
Add broth
Use 6-quart crockpot
Cook on low overnight (14-16 hours is best, really- gets all the flavor out of dem bones)
Stir occasionally after it’s been in at least 8 hours
Remove bones, break up any large chunks of meat and remove any chunks of fat etc. before serving
@sammydog01 You can also use ham hocks or shanks, but I recommend adding some chopped ham with them. I use the large bone that’s in the center of one of those big smoked hams, and just leave a lot of meat on.
@lazyideas I just got the book Stir-Frying to the Sky’s Edge. My mother had it and recommended it. We have a wok that was my wife’s before we met, so it’s about 30 years old, but we haven’t used it in a long time. Tonight we had our second dinner from the book and they were both fantastic.
It really depends on what you’re cooking, but I did get to try some thermite-cooked brownies, once. That is definitely one of the coolest ways I have ever seen something cooked, albeit not the tastiest. Engineers make fun chefs. Not always good, but fun.
@hchavers he actually used some homemade stuff, that time. Apparently, he may have “procured” some from an employer the first time. I was not present for that, and make no assumptions about the legality of his actions. I just know it looks awesome.
To eat? Deep frying. But I never do it myself, way too messy. If I have to cook… sadly I’m probably using the microwave. I do like grilling, but that’s a seasonal thing.
Anything can be grilled, well almost anything. Maybe anything can be fried. No matter, grilling taste a whole lot better. Ain’t nothing like grill smokiness all over you.
@mfladd Just started really exploring what the Instant Pot can do. Last week I made meatloaf, mashed potatoes and carrots all at the same time in the IP. Also made Beef Stroganoff and Salted Caramel Cheesecake, not at the same time. It’s fun!
@sammydog01 depending on how you like your ham sometimes i put pineapple juice and some grenadine from the cherries or sometimes you just put spicy mustard with brown sugar and it’s really good ☺
I misvoted for frying when I should have voted for sautéing. Once I accidentally over sautéed garbanzo beans to the point where they became crunchy, and they were dee-licious.

Slow cooker.
@Pony I’ve got a bunch of those. Favorite recipe?

@Pony That sounds sooooo good. I’ll go look for a ham bone.

@sammydog01 Soup’s ready!
pressure cooking!
Anything but frying. Too messy. I’ll go with Grilling.
pepperoni pizza
Smoking, duh!
@un4gvn1 Definitely. Low and slow with plenty of beer.
@un4gvn1 Totally agree, low and slow is the way to go…
Absolutely this. Smokey meats are the best.
@un4gvn1 I prefer vaping.
Stir fry?

@simplersimon where can I get thermite? (What is that black car that just drove up?)

@heartny Restaurant style.

@cpierce why is it seasonal? I grill all year long. Yesterday we grilled Korean bbq in the snow
@cpierce @Crood Did you use white meat or dark meat Koreans?
Anything can be grilled, well almost anything. Maybe anything can be fried. No matter, grilling taste a whole lot better. Ain’t nothing like grill smokiness all over you.
Someone else’s cooking
@katbyter it always taste better when someone else cooks!
Braising rules. Like slow-cooking, but more French!

You left out smoking!
Which is coincidentally what I am about to do right now with a pork loin and maybe some steaks.
appropriate application of heat
Pressure cooker or crockpot love this machine cause i have a 10qt! Have you ever have a slow cooked ham Mmmm
@ragingredd Nope. Just water or do you put in spices or sugar?
@ragingredd @sammydog01 I like to slow cook ham in apple juice with sliced Granny Smith apples.
@sammydog01 depending on how you like your ham sometimes i put pineapple juice and some grenadine from the cherries or sometimes you just put spicy mustard with brown sugar and it’s really good ☺
Toaster oven!
Convection microwave!

@eonfifty Alton Brown did it.

Frying because delicious, but so unhealthy.
Grilling because delicious and it usually involves being outside on a nice beautiful day.
My 600$ rice maker
@Crood you can make cakes in some rice cookers!
@Crood good gravy!?! What the heck happens inside a $600 rice maker? Does it individually toast each grain?
Delivery.
@arielleslie
Baking. Life is too short, eat dessert first!
Tried to find a pic or video of road crew cooking food wrapped in foil buried in hot asphalt… failed.
as fast as possible involving as little work as possible
Grilling
When my wife says that dinner is ready.
Sit down restaurant.
