What's the story behind PoC or GTFO?

Why did they buy an ad on meh? There doesn't look to be any money in this for them.

Just how much Laphroaig went into this thing? I wish I was more savvy about computer "stuff" to get all the jokes.
"Don't let your penguin show!"
I'm going to have to work this into my conversations this week.
@LaVikinga I'm going to guess massive quantities. I feel like if one of the Linux kernel developers took LSD then wrote a manifesto we might end up with this.
@AltairDusk my brain parsed that as BSD first time through. need more coffee.
No idea... but I was thoroughly confused.
I was going to ask the same. Weird!
Man, that pilgrim likes to peek at abadbabe. I wonder if he's just a regular dude wearing pilgrim clothes.
No clue but I did enjoy reading about Lenticrypt, pretty interesting concept.
Where's the tl;dr?
I think it was just an ad to draw attention to PoC or GTFO?

And we're talking about it, so I guess it worked :D
Also worth mentioning... "This issue is a polyglot that can be meaningfully interpreted as a PDF, SWF, ZIP, or ISO file." (That was Re: 05, but maybe all of them?)
@Chops The issue released today is a Zip, PDF, Tar, and includes microdots, barcodes, and other hidden messages.
I started to read the article. Then I remembered that I don't give a shit and stopped. No clue what it was about
@capguncowboy I did the same exact thing.
maybe meh was just testing to see who'd be fool enough to click?
@Kidsandliz They did sell advertising slots during their Kickstarter campaign. Maybe someone wanted to make the larger donation and picked that as their ad. I'm sure that info wouldn't be divulged to us.
@capguncowboy - Not sure how many kickstarter ads were sold, but I remember someone using one for a wedding anniversary message. It was sweet.
I like it. Hidden bonus features, nicely designed, well-written articles on a bunch of different weird things.
Plus anything that uses the glyph code from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Dancing Men" automatically gets several thousand coolness points.
I don't know if it's deliberate or not, but the ad doesn't link to the most current issue, which is actually #6:

I'm the person who got the ad slot (just a regular one, not a Kickstarter one). I thought about posting this morning, but thought it would be interesting to see where things went without me being involved.
I didn't make the magazine- please direct your thanks to Travis Goodspeed (on Twitter @travisgoodspeed), the editor, and consider hosting and/or sharing a copy (in compliance with the license).
I didn't link to the latest issue because it wasn't available until after the ad had been posted, and issue 0x04 seemed like a good choice.
If you've got any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them.
@dashcloud As a loyal reader since issue 0, I nearly keeled over when I saw the ad. If your at Shmoocon or Defcon I'd love to buy you a beer.
@dashcloud Its almost defcon time! Are you going to vegas? I take my beer debts seriously
I'm confused. I have nothing to add to this conversation.
@Teripie I like jelly. (neither do I)
This needs an online review, methinks. I'll work on it.
I'd like to request a Meh. button next to every ad.
