@RiotDemon I think so. I’m a Black Card member and that’s really the only thing I take advantage of and think it’s wonderful. Very relaxing after a workout. Also I sometimes get the discounted water. My location doesn’t have the Total Body Enhancement machine, but I hear that’s good too.
I was in Singapore on business and was out one evening after the oppressive heat had subsided. I was looking for a souvenir for my wife. I went into one of those indoor malls they have. The sign above the entrance said “Orchard Towers.” There were some furniture and decor shops but they were all closed. I kept walking around and pretty soon started seeing attractive young women in tight black dresses standing outside various doorways. As I got nearer they started saying “massage, massage” on repeat. The place was full of them like zombies reciting their mantra. I went out the back into the alley and made my way back to the street and after some more walking went back to my hotel. I looked up orchard towers on the web and it’s colloquially referred to as “four floors of whores.” Sorry, this story doesn’t have a “happy ending.” That’s not the kind of souvenir I wanted to get for my wife.
I had a pretty nice setup in my early 20s: my friend was going to massage school and needed someone who 1) could deal with deep tissue and 2) would actually give honest feedback. As a result, I got full-body massages roughly once every two weeks for a couple years. I still go to her when I visit my parents.
A massage by a friend/loved one (who isn’t also a massage therapist) is fine if I’m just wanting comforting physical contact, but I go to a pro if I want any sort of physiological benefit. I’m not a body builder or anything, but I have a decent amount of muscle for my frame, so it takes some strength/technique to really work them.
At first glance I saw that as you were getting rough massages! I mean, with a beginner that’s entirely possible! I too knew someone who was taking classes to be a massage therapist and she gave me a free session, but it was obvious to me that she didn’t have much skill, and she didn’t go on with it for long.
would not go in for a massage. Or really ask for one from a partner. I wouldn’t object unless you came up behind me and just made things worse. Like pretty much everything communicate.
I have been requested to massage a significant other. When I have one. Regularly and I enjoy physical contact as part of intimacy and as long as they are providing feedback. And you’re listening. Like many things its pretty hard to mess up. I want to make them feel good/better and if they’re telling me what feels good. Simple. Makee me happy
Professionals have to know what generally feels good as a starting point and then probably don’t get as much open feedback.

I’ll get in trouble if I answer truthfully.
Boy do I have a story.

Well-meaning loved one = pain. There’s a reason I get the professionals to work on all my shoulder and back knots.
@Salanth
If you’d gone for it
Family might have learned by now
Instead here you are
A talented massage therapist should be covered by your medical insurance. Better for my back problem that my chiropractor.

I object to “poorly skilled loved one”.
