@mycya4me@therealjrn I do occasionally catch a fine sunrise; I have skylight over my bed and if I open my eyes and see a pink sky I leap out of bed & take pictures. Then go back & sleep some more.
@chienfou@Kyeh@Star2236 Yes Sometime it is that you are at the Right place & at the right time. Hey I think good work should be praised.
Plus sometimes being on a Photo Club outing helps too. (the you can tease others about their Camera- in my Photo group we all do, Lovingly, that is since we all have Great respect for each other & their work)
@chienfou@mycya4me@Star2236 I was one of those Luddites who held out on getting a smart phone for a long time. What finally got me to buy one was the thought of being able to take good photos so easily - anywhere, anytime.
I was on my way to Costco and saw a funny storage unit sign - it said “Free rutabaga for any new account!” And then at Costco I saw a little flip Samsung that was RED.
Annie Leibowitz has said that the best camera is the one you have with you. The cellphone camera suits me because I love snapshots, just capturing the immediate moment.
I have several film cameras including a Leica my father brought home from Germany after being in the Army (you have to use a manual light meter with it but wow, what a great lens it has!) But I only ever use my phone anymore.
I grew up on the west coast of Florida and always enjoyed the sunsets, (often with a cold beverage ). But now I live on the EAST coast of Florida and have to hear about the “Beautiful Sunrises” all the time… Ugh.
Sunrise only because I don’t have to move to see it. I have a great sunrise view from my office. I get here before sunrise so I can avoid people for a few hours of my work day
Sunsets are gentle on the eyes, with the sun going down and getting dimmer. Sunrises on the other hand have the sun coming up and blinding you in the morning.
@Mehlachi
Back in my college days at CU in Boulder I would drive the roughly 900 miles back and forth to St Louis to visit my parents a few times a year. I always timed my departure so I would not have to drive into the sunrise heading home or the sunset heading back.
Either one… preferably over open water.
Especially this time of year it’s not hard to get in a full night’s sleep in between the two and be able to see both.
Here’s a different perspective. The dawn breaking over the Sandia Mountains is a spectacle of God’s grace and glory. The optimism of another day is awe inspiring. Conversely, the Sun setting on the Sandia Mountains is a masterpiece of art that only He can make. Each of these masterpieces are unique and ever inspiring. I give thanks and have deep appreciation for another day; every day.
I’m a sunset person. My dads house sits just about opposite side of the sunsets and it’s just beautiful. Everytime I go on vacation in Florida and visit a new beach there I make sure to stay for a sunset.
On the few days we actually see the sun in winter here, sunrises can be brutal with the sun glaring off the snow. I remember driving to high school (it was in that direction with lots of snow on the sides of the roads) and only being 5 mins away but it taking an hour to get there bc it was just accident after accident bc of how bad the sun was glaring off the snow that morning.
@chienfou@Kyeh Well, as it is Mt. Hood (in the Cascade Range, along with Mt. Saint Helens), it does have some potential to blow.
But that is just the mountain’s shadow projected on the clouds.
Depends on where you are.
Sunset, because night time is the right time.
sunset last night at the dog beach

sunset tonight (first date)

@haydesigner
Awww…
Waking up early enough to watch the sunrise was always miserable
Sunrise: work soon
Sunset: sleep soon
@tweezak Exactly this. Night comes after sunset.
Sunrise should happen while I sleep.
@werehatrack I so agree with you, I even have an Eye mask!
@mycya4me @werehatrack I use a black neck muff to sleep.
I use it on planes too. Seeing as we are basically sardine-prisoners on planes these daze, I think it’s fitting.
Seeing the sunset means I’ve survived the day.
I love taking Photos & the Golden hour is very special to take unique pics, plus I am NOT a morning person!
@mycya4me I think anyone commenting right now probably prefers sunsets!
@mycya4me
Yer not wrong, @Kyeh! ¯\(ツ)/¯

@mycya4me @therealjrn

This was the best one I’ve ever seen:
@Kyeh
That’s beautiful. Nice pic!
@Kyeh @mycya4me @therealjrn
That last one is amazing.
@Kyeh @therealjrn The last one was a Double Wow! 2 Thumbs up as I only got two thumbs
@mycya4me @Star2236 @chienfou
Thank you! I felt really lucky catching that one, for sure!

I don’t mind staying up to see the sun rise,
but I despise getting up to see the sunrise.
@mediocrebot Good job with this thread. Nice comments all around.

No way I am getting up early enough (or staying up late enough) to see a sunrise. Sunsets, on the other hand are easy to stay up for.

It’s really hard to choose, they both are amazing. But having to choose i pick sunset. The hue is beautiful

Definitely sunrise :
(Photo taken from my back deck.)
@macromeh
Very nice! Gives you the impression of a volcano going off!
@chienfou @macromeh That’s exactly what I thought!

That’s what makes that particular composition so great…
Sunset doesn’t occur first thing in the morning before I wake up
Sunset doesn’t occur first thing in the morning before I wake up
Sunrise because I’m up. Sunset on the other hand I’m ready for bed, not really but effectively
Sunset in Hawaii. Period
Love both. Don’t like to have to work to be awake for one tho

The best is a weighted combo of “most spectacular” and “fewest mosquitoes”.
