@f00l@therealjrn@unksol More than just regular OBD2; ELM327 is a command set. For Ford vehicles, it can talk to more than just the main ECU; ABS, restraint system, transmission, body control, etc.
In my case, it can access the battery control module for the hybrid system, which many scanners can not. Once a year, I’ll use it to initiate a battery balance where it’ll force the vehicle to “top off” the battery pack. 257k+ miles, still original.

The laptop that runs Forscan is an $80 “student grade” from Micro Center. I was using an old laptop, but it weighs nearly 6 pounds and because it’s also a 3rd gen i7, it’s barely an hour of battery life.
@narfcake yea the bluetooth or wifi ones are way handier for just drive testing since you can make a bunch of realtime dashboards with torque and put it in a phone holder. Or run a scan. Not that you should be looking at it that much but it’s basically a custom gauge cluster at that point.

I think a tow truck driver also went down. I know a county highway department driver did when they showed up. They weren’t planning on plowing/sanding till 12 hours later. I think a deputy convinced them after we had people stacking up on this back road hill…
They had to pull one car up hill and one down hill cause they were just going to slide off to a steep drop.
I think someone else went down. Not sure if it was a cop or one of the firefighters on their way to work…

You can just pull fault codes. But fuel trim/misfires/oxygen sensor voltage… Tons of sensor info. If you know what to do with it
