Thanks for reminding me to recheck, Spotify was telling me I didn’t have internet access this afternoon.
If you mostly passively listen to Spotify it gets some weird ideas about your favorites. My number one artist was Stevie Ray Vaughan and my number one song was The Joker. They’re both all right I guess. I spent a fair amount of days this fall with some classic rock and blues heavy playlists on shuffle as background music in my shop. I also have the it’s a great day playlist as my alarm clock every morning so it thinks that’s my favorite playlist of every season. I didn’t know I was feeding stats. It’s cool though.
My tastes varied by season. In the spring it was Presidents of the USA, and in the fall it was Presidents of the USA again.
My best of the decade playlist looks interesting. I swear it has some stuff on it I’ve never heard or in some cases even heard of before. I’m discovering a track with Run the Jewels and Zack de la Rocha right now that I don’t think I’ve ever heard before.
Here’s my playlist:

The Top 20 is mostly the DOOM soundtrack and Slayer’s South of Heaven, which were on endless repeat for me this year. But further down the list a kinder, gentler and more effete Vinny appears. Take this Bach track, for example, as wistful as a lilac breeze: https://open.spotify.com/track/5xVcnhVL0AwcOgbpuxTu6W?si=BChhY9j5SLu9EDTycgnCbg
Or this warm-fuzzy-trippy psych rock bit: https://open.spotify.com/track/3F2J0IQQL0hQzlYwTdITV2?si=1E1S7_HpSomG9WcuzzZXOg
But let’s face facts: it’s mostly DOOM and Slayer.

@UncleVinny
South of Heaven
West Virginia
Chaos Rampant, Shenandoah River
Judgement Day there, Bastards in the trees
The loss of all hope there, and your dignity
Unending search, truth never told
Root of evil, a black soul!
West Virginia,
Incest papa,
Unending search, truth never told…
Yeah, that’s one of my favorites, too.
If something online is free, you are the product.
Your duty, citizen consumer, is to provide stats to fill corporate big data lakes that can be mined by machine learning systems for the sole purpose of producing shareholder returns and executive pay packages.
You and all of us fellow plebes are the ultimate renewable resource for these virtual extraction economies.
@mike808 allow me to rephrase more carefully. I didn’t know I was feeding a year end report that would be handed to me. Of course I’m feeding big data, as I am in a situation where the internet is available and I am in the presence of a connected device.
Also, my Spotify account is premium. But I’m probably still the product.
My top artist was Manic Drive- I spent 3 hours listening to them. I don’t know who the hell they are. Looks like it’s time to change my password.
@sammydog01 happened to me as well. You’re not alone.
I don’t have spotify… but I saw phantogram… and there are some really great phantogram songs… so for any who don’t know what phantogram is:
I don’t use Spotify, but if I did it would be Sidney Gish.
My top album was Spawn the Motion Picture soundtrack. While the movie wasn’t best the music was amazing. There is only one CD on Amazon and its listed @ 99.99
Why it’s an amazing mixture of industrial rock and DJ remixes
