@neuromancer - I do, however, sometimes watch it on TVPC.com. I can watch it 3 hours early on the West Coast, but it's very poor quality. It looks like someone is just using a camera to record the TV broadcast.
@Thumperchick - So, PLEX will work with my Roku? I am so behind in tech stuff. This looks like an awesome solution, and I look forward to playing with it after T'giving. Maybe I can finally give up cable. I'm so tired of paying for the privilege of infomercials. Thank you.
@KDemo We use PLEX on our Rokus. It does require some work, though. You have to have a computer function as your server - the place the Roku can pull the signal from. It's a pain to set up, but it is nice to be able to watch stuff that would otherwise be limited to the laptop.
i have basic cable because my internet was cheaper this way. i didn't have a tv until about a month ago and i think i have watched about one show via cable tv. I mostly watch streaming/downloading.
We do have an OTA antenna, but we never use it because it only pulls in a couple channels. We have Netflix and Hulu+ subscriptions that meet most of our needs. We're still pretty pissed that Battlestar Galactica was removed though. My husband wants a box set for Christmas as he's going through BSG withdrawals.
We live in a rural area with no high-speed internet or cable. We used to have DirecTV but my TiVo got killed in a lightning strike and I decided not to bother buying a new one. Now we just rent DVDs from Netflix.
Currently all streaming. I bought that little plug-in USB stick thingy that was on Meh awhile ago, but haven't actually taken the time to figure it out just yet.
I also bought a Dell/Hauppauge USB TV Tuner, which works very well, and when I got my basic cable bill this month featuring a $20 increase, it also helped me decide to cut loose. So OTA for now, and hoping meh might have something Roku in the near future.
So I had to choose Deluxe as I work for a cable company and get the whole enchilada for free.
Now do I WATCH cable? Uh, no, maybe Simpsons and Family guy if the DVR works right and doesn't loose all my recordings.
So I bought this gizmo to make my cable card carrying bedroom TV even more useful (would this be considered amputation?) as it's got a Roku 3 on it anyway. And PS3's on the other TV's. Having my server do DVR duty just sounds so RIGHT. Ya know for the 2-3 shows I actually care about.
Oh and Plex! Chromecast! Amazon Fire Stick! XBOX 360! Tablets/phones up the wazoo! Makes that one lonely cable box seem so quaint.
If I wasn't a network engineer, I'd almost think the company I work for is irrelevant...Buy more Internetz people!
@michaelahess Kind of the same here, but my husband is the one working for the cable company. I watch tv more than he does. We've got tivo in 2 rooms and can watch Netflix on it. He's supposed to bring home a stream so I can download to my iPad. If we had to pay for it it
I have cable primarily for sports. I realized recently there aren't many shows I watch outside of sports, actually. Maybe 7 years of working in TV has burned me out on TV.
C'mon folks, Uverse is none of the above and it's pretty popular. It's mostly fiber with Ethernet cabling for the last hop, or in some cases fiber all the way. And then there are those lucky woofers who have Google Fiber. Expand your horizons, and your voting choices.
@ellett I have FTTH (formerly another provder but now Google Fiber) but I dumped the IPTV part of it maybe 2 years ago...? It just isn't worth the monthly cost. I have an eyeTV but we rarely use it. Now, an HDHomerun PLUS on meh might change that, but I'm not sure.
@jqubed Yeah, we have the highest one available since DH's company is internet based. It was 100Mbps, then they doubled the speed of the lower tiers, so they boosted ours up pretty high. It was a pleasant surprise, for sure.
OTA antenna + IPTV + Things That Mysteriously Appear In A Certain Folder On My Hard Drive. A friend says she might let me use her HBO Go login, which would increase the IPTV and decrease the TTMAIACFOMHD by about the same amounts.
I've got one step above basic cable with Verizon FIOS. I use a Tivo with a cable card. I've thought about going all streaming, but it's just so damn convenient to have the guide on my DVR and just be able to subscribe to stuff from there. I watch a lot of TV though... I would have to spend way too much time finding out how/where to watch each show if I streamed everything.
@rockblossom I'm not ashamed. For years we had a BUD (big ugly dish) and I loved it. Due to Charlie Ergen and his Dish network, content providers started leaving the BUD for the pizza dish. It got so expensive for what was left, that we went back to cable. Where we've been ever since. I liked the BUD, it was fun. We'd be done with prime time shows by eight at night (we're on the west coast).
Friggin Comcast basic required to get their lowest tier Inet, avg 3 mbps, nearly $80/no. Only other options would be dsl or satellite. Or upgrade the comcast cable to be able to go to faster Inet tiers.
Expanded basic cable for The Daily Show.
@KDemo You know they have that on the Hulu, right? Also on the website.
@neuromancer - Must be something new, I had a free trial of Hulu in the past, and it wasn't available. Thanks for the info.

@KDemo We use PLEX for TDS, CR, and Southpark.

We have a local fiber provider for internet and TV... so IPTV.

I... I... Im sorry.

Looks like I am in the majority, streaming movies. Maybe the cable and satellite companies will get a clue and lower their rates.
Between Netflix, Amazon Prime and a few different websites, I can watch what I want, when I want to, for a lot less than paying for cable/satellite.
Sometimes, I use my telepathy to watch other peoples' TVs.

@ellett Uverse is IPTV

We stream TV all the way. It's nice to not have to waste half of my time watching TV to commercials....
Expanded cable (with streaming HBO, Showtime, Starz and Epix), Netflix, Amazon Prime and four Rokus.
I just did a speedtest and our download speed is 176.03 Mpbs.
@lisaviolet Wow, I think the fastest my cable provider offers is 100Mbps!
@jqubed Yeah, we have the highest one available since DH's company is internet based. It was 100Mbps, then they doubled the speed of the lower tiers, so they boosted ours up pretty high. It was a pleasant surprise, for sure.

have the HD box for Formula 1... about to dump it for the next few months until the 2015 season starts up.
OTA antenna + MythTV DVR. Yeah, I'm an anomaly. Works for me, so I don't care.
Sigh. We have windstream in our rural area so it's not good enough for streaming. Half the time I can't even pull up websites. We have dish
@ivannabc Dish is for watching.

I'm almost embarrassed to say DirecTV. That's all.
None, they are all way to overpriced
OTA antenna for broadcast channels plus streaming everything else.
I noticed the apologetic tone of those with cable/dish. Has "cable shaming" become the new thing?
@rockblossom Seems that way.

@mehjohnson Oops, wasn't worth whining about second time, if even the first.
@mehjohnson Totally worth whining about, that's awful. :(
@JonT Yep, practically a monopoly here for 'decent' speed. I'll probably upgrade later, though. Thanks for deleting my double-post.
