What sort of treats do you give yourself?
8I had a small dinner party this evening. Bacon-wrapped sirloin steaks, garlic green beans, saffron rice, and Godiva dark chocolate pudding. Daffodils were my favorite flower is a kid and they were on sale for $5, so I decided to treat myself. Two-thirds were buds when I brought them home a few hours ago, but they’ve all bloomed and they’re amazingly fragrant. They aren’t going to last very long but I will enjoy them while they are here. What kind of small treats do you give yourself to brighten your day?

I don’t.
@shahnm Happy puppy!
Sugar. Too much too often.
@moonhat
If you’d like, I could come and help stop you.
@PlacidPenguin yes, please do! The older I get the less will power I have. I’m a slave to the sugar.
@moonhat - I can’t honestly say I’ve given it up completely, but about 15 years ago I cut out as much white sugar as I could and haven’t had a cold or the flu since!
@aetris I tried cutting out sugar for a couple months a year or so ago. It didn’t make me feel any better or different at all so I just went back to it. I know it’s so horrible for us. But it’s so delicious…
@moonhat - I didn’t really notice I FELT any different, not at first anyway. But I realized later I was a good bit more energetic, and over time I saw the health changes too. You have to be careful about all sweeteners, but sugar has some real downsides. Just sayin’!
Chocolate. Preferably dark chocolate.
@narfcake
Wanna trade a penguin plush for some dark chocolate?
@PlacidPenguin No need to trade, silly!
@narfcake
But with a trade I’d save more money not having to pay for shipping.
@PlacidPenguin I’m not sure that math adds up …
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@narfcake
Tell that to the calculator.
@narfcake with orange accoutrements. Orange frosting, or orange jelly inside, or orange flavored chocolate… ahhhh, heaven.
Turkish Delight, the ones with only fruit flavors, without nuts.
@duodec when I was like four, I got up before my parents and ate a whole bottle of baby aspirin. For the rest of my life I’ve been unable to tolerate artificial orange flavoring. Things that are actually Orange, containing orange zest or citric acid or the like I love. But nothing orange-flavored.
@moondrake
But glad you can still enjoy the real thing!
@heartny What is this?
A Ktarian chocolate puff?
@zachdecker Chocolate Truffle Bomb from Stop 'n Shop supermarket.
Puppy smooches will do it every time. Miss Belle, my lab, does this ridiculous thing where she gently nibbles my nose then snuffles my ear. I’ve never been so down that this didn’t snap me right out of it.
@ruouttaurmind You weren’t trying hard enough.
(Belle sounds great.)

@narfcake yes it is an ice cream truck treat
@CaptAmehrican @narfcake We get them from Taco Johns!!
Pretty flowers. My daffodils are under the snow.
I have been rewarding myself with clothes a lot this last year. Most of my old stuff does not fit.
@CaptAmehrican same here… bet I should stop rewarding myself with chocolate to fix this???
@mikibell umm well it depends on your goal. Happiness or weight loss…
Sometimes flowers. Sometimes a shopping spree. Sometimes and extra cup of good coffee or sometimes something good to eat. It varies. Next week… I’m heading to the beach for first time in a long time because…need.

@woodhouse There are 3 floors in our office, 2 bathrooms. The other day, I saw my co-worker running up the stairs, gleefully chanting “Treat yourself to the upstairs bathroom! Treat yourself to the upstairs bathroom!”
So that’s a thing around the office now.
@gregormehndel oh no
@woodhouse Oh yes. We bonded. It made my day, actually.
@gregormehndel @woodhouse At City Hall where I worked, it was basically 1 floor per department. Departments like ours, that served the public at least part of the time, didn’t have nearly as clean bathrooms, and not as nice furnishings. Legal was one floor up, they didn’t interact with the public, were few in number with big offices with fancy furnishings that got retired to the bathroom when they were a little worn, and they’d put nice soaps, lotions and air fresheners in their bathroom. I’d go up the stairs to use their restroom.
@moondrake Yeah! Treat yourself to the upstairs bathroom!
@gregormehndel @moondrake In my case, the downstairs bathroom is the nicer one here.
(My office used to be the storage room.)
@moondrake @narfcake Well… Treat yourself to the downstairs bathroom! My office used to be, and still is, the mailroom (having nothing to do with my job). I like it, though, because I keep in touch with people on all floors. Makes me sound like the “Makin’ copies” guy from SNL, but I’m not. He’s way cooler.
This past Tuesday, I had a super-productive day, caught up on back-burner stuff that was getting out of hand, so I promised myself something special. I asked my buddy who has worked in the produce section at the Co-op for many years, and knows the store intimately: “If money was no object and you were rewarding yourself, what would you buy in this store?” He thought for a moment, and took two steps over to the bulk foods and pointed at the oatmeal bin…" He’s a kidder and a keeper.
I bought fresh bread, a block of posh goat cheese, and a 22 oz Stone Brewery IPA. Good times.
@gregormehndel oh my gosh, that sounds just wonderful

@f00l yes yes YES!
food. meh purchases. nice beer or wine.
@connorbush So candy corn, pillows shaped bricks, and somethinng from Casemates to drown yourself over those prior two items.
@connorbush @narfcake I don’t think something from casemates will soften either the candy corn or pillows. Just sayin’

Mostly guns lately. Sometimes new PC components.
Used to be new games, but I already have more of those than I’ll ever play. (I don’t “treat myself” very often)
@Dweezle I do that too. Hubby always said I was a keeper. He couldn’t turn down a female that wanted a new gun for her bday. Not the PC thingies tho. Long as I have a working laptop… I’m good.
