@duodec No, no. Ties are very useful. Nice silk ties with slip knots. Silk is very strong, and if you grab the back piece and yank really hard, it makes a great garrote. I’m convinced that men’s ties were invented by women as a way to deal with grabby men.
These days. for the most part, there has to be a woman in a white dress (figuratively, if not literally) or a body in a box or jar (again, figuratively, if not literally) for me to wear a tie at all.
Back when I used to wear ties for work tho, these are some of the ones I had:
@baqui63 I’m still working, but no more ties. I used to wear ties 4 days a week, but when the company starting treating me (and my 25yrs of engineering experience) like ‘just another guy’ I cut that shit out
@Thumperchick I gave @kalira the bad ties as a gift when we got together in SC for @meh’s graduation. Meh’s friend (with the same first name) wore one for a while with the proud grandpa t-shirt she bought at the PX (dark red stretchy, you can barely see it in the above photo, immediately to the right and mostly behind of the red one with the dots).
I have no idea what happened to them. We didn’t burn them, at least not together. Perhaps kal and aya took them home and did so, but I tend to think there would have been pix.
The only time I wore ties was when I was part of the jazz band in high school. Ties were part of the performance attire. In general I just wore a normal tie, although I had to choose from my dad’s 80s paisley ties…
@jqubed I play saxophone. (It’s hard to wear a ninja mask like that to play the sax. =P)Our “uniform” was basically a black collared shirt with a tie, khaki pants, and black dress shoes. My one friend had a tie that had the blue m&m playing a saxophone. I was jealous.
Catholic Schools ties grade 1 through 12. Retail management many more years of ties. I bought and wore the ugliest ties I could find. If I suffered maybe someone else would too.

I don’t often wear ties but I got on a kick of doing so in college. My favorite was this one:
I bought it off the manager’s neck for probably $20, basically just to see if i could talk him into selling it. I think I still have it somewhere but haven’t seen it in years.
Edit: holy hell that tie sold for over $100 on ebay with a couple of light stains. Time to find it!
@RiotDemon I did. He was wearing it and I complimented him on it, and then in a rare moment of some kind of personality I don’t normally have I talked him into parting with it. I’m not even sure why I did, but I wore it regularly after that for no good reason.
Even most cheap ties seem to be made of silk, and as such I find it very hard to shop for them. Which is fine, since I essentially never have that need anyway, and I really don’t like presenting myself that way… but still. Kind of a pain.
The only thing a tie is good for is protecting your shirt buttons from dribbles.
Bowties can be cool, but not for/on me…
@duodec They’re really great for pointing at your crotch without using your hands.
@hallmike So those horrible super wide ties from the '70s were both compensating for something and pointing at it?

Twist ties.
@KDemo Police issued zip ties

@baqui63 I thought kal made you get rid of most of them? Or was it @shrdlu?

Well. I’m a woman. So while that doesn’t mean I can’t wear ties, I don’t.
Just keep reminding me how much I hate me job right now Meh!
(edit: oops @mfladd had the same idea)

My ties are fairly plain. I’m fairly plain. Meh. I saw a SpongeBob tie a few years ago that I regret not buying.
Bow… is there any other kind? really…
@sohmageek Did you ever see this young kid who designs Bow Ties (he was on Shark Tank)? Give it a watch - you may want one.
Mo’s Bows
@sohmageek @mfladd The Doctor and Alton Brown agree
@mfladd That kid is great. I’d invest in him.

@ninjaemilee So you were like this, but with a musical instrument? What instrument?
@jqubed I play saxophone. (It’s hard to wear a ninja mask like that to play the sax. =P)Our “uniform” was basically a black collared shirt with a tie, khaki pants, and black dress shoes. My one friend had a tie that had the blue m&m playing a saxophone. I was jealous.
I bought this Warner Bros. tie before I retired. Bugs, Daffy, Taz, Tweety, etc. This is what I wear for “formal” occasions every two or three years.
Hair ties.
Is there an article of clothing that is more purely without actual practical function - for men or women - than a tie?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a tie in this house on anyone (except salesmen) or hanging in any closet and I’ve been here for over thirty years.

@djslack Do you happen to still own this tie? If so I may be interested in buying it from you
@jbohne I’ll check into it and let you know.
@djslack a chick fil a tie? You bought it from the manager at the restaurant I assume?
@djslack Thank you. Im a gm at a store and would love to be able to get this
@RiotDemon I did. He was wearing it and I complimented him on it, and then in a rare moment of some kind of personality I don’t normally have I talked him into parting with it. I’m not even sure why I did, but I wore it regularly after that for no good reason.
@djslack Did you ever have any luck finding it?
@jbohne sorry, haven’t gotten to look yet. I’ll be back to where i think it is by the end of this month.

@brhfl Why do you find it hard to shop for silk ties?
@compunaut Mmm, I gave half the necessary information. Vegetarian. So I find it hard to shop for ties in general, because so many are silk.
Aw come on you know the words!
