@mcanavino She lives in the same house as me. But she wants to go places so sometimes I have to break down and go places. I’ve been lucky that we’ve been keeping travel limited to here on the west coast the past few years. Vancouver in 2014, San Diego in 2015, and Seattle this summer.
I went to a funeral this weekend and even though I knew what I was wearing and what I would need. I was driving instead of flying so I loaded my car with WAY TOO MUCH.
Learned to cut down. All my serious trips lately have been for a plethora of weddings, so I have to carry outfits for various events. Would prefer flip-flops, tees and comfy pants.
When I traveled, I had it down to a science. I had a list, and it had everything on it, including obvious (underwear), and non-obvious (power cables and chargers). Everyone is answering as though they had to fly, and packing is different if you’re flying or driving. I used to have a bag that had every single cable/device I might need, already packed (pre-9/11 days).
I still use a list, and avoid flying, if at all possible. Then again, I avoid traveling, so there’s that.
Yeah. . . I only take one messenger bag, but sometimes that messenger bag is 50 pounds and barely fits in the bin. (Baileyworks XL or Chrome Kremlin, depending on how visible I feel like being.)
I can, in fact, bike with a bag that weighs 40% of my own weight on my back. I’m not terribly happy about it the next day.
I just used a tri-fold garment bag on my last biz trip and it worked fine.
Slight killer on the shoulders since it doesn’t have wheels, but was great to just get off the plane and go, no waiting for checked bags
Depends on the length of the trip and the time of year. Cold weather clothes take up a lot more room. I try not to fly, so have a full trunk for use. The spouse brings twice what she needs (and would pack the whole house), so I go moderate. I have a 28" travel bag, the spouse has a 3 piece set - 29", 26" and 21".
If it is under three days, I wear a jacket with a couple sets of underwear and socks in the pocket, and buy myself a souvenir t-shirt. Why bother with a backpack.
I am normally a light packer, but I am flying to Atlantic City on Friday for a trade show. It will be a 5 day trip. 3 days on the expo floor, and 2 hours singing Bruce Springsteen at a karaoke bar, means I’ll need an extra pair of clothes.
As a serious traveler, I love exploring exotic places and immersing myself in different cultures. But in the excitement of planning for a new destination, it’s easy to forget that some of these beautiful faraway lands don’t have easy accessibility of some of what one might call the comforts of home. Whether I’m relaxing in a luxury hotel in Akihabara or embarking on an eco-trek in Swaziland, there’s one treat I never fail to bring along: fudge! All my friends say I’m a huge fudge packer. Sometimes they even giggle about it. But I don’t mind–I know from experience that jerky and trail mix can only go so far, and pretty soon they wish they’d packed some fudge too! Sometimes customs agents give me a strange look when I point out my passion for packing fudge, but I bet they’re just counting the minutes until lunch. Remember, whether you’re off on a car trip with the family or an around-the-world adventure, be sure to pack some fudge the night before. You can thank me later!
If it doesn’t fit in a messenger bag, I don’t need it. Unless I’m camping, I suppose, tent gets a little extra room.
Moderate, as I over pack when it comes to shirts. The vacuum space bags are really helpful in making everything fit, though.
@narfcake when you get to your destination and unpack/bag the shirts, how do you recompress them for the journey home?
@mollama I show the bag and ask “may I borrow your vacuum cleaner?”
I usually only pack a backpack. The last trip I went on I brought a carry-on and backpack, but that was because I was bringing gifts.
I avoid travel as much as possible. Only enough to stave off divorce. I get extreme anxiety whenever there’s a flight involved.
@SSteve Where does s/he live? Maybe you could move within driving distance.

@SSteve
Joke --------->
You
@mcanavino Hey, it was 6:30 in the morning.
@SSteve Ha, it may have been a little too deep.
i ALWAYS still have clean clothes in the pack/case when i arrive back home - which category does that put me in?
@DMlivezey Immoderate? I always have the same problem, so…
I went to a funeral this weekend and even though I knew what I was wearing and what I would need. I was driving instead of flying so I loaded my car with WAY TOO MUCH.
i wear a single backpack. whether it’s 3 days or a week, i will pack half of that and get them washed at the midway point. i loathe luggage.
Another big question: when do you pack? Me? Always less than 12 hours before my flight.
@jqubed
Agreed. Anxiety makes me do it.
Learned to cut down. All my serious trips lately have been for a plethora of weddings, so I have to carry outfits for various events. Would prefer flip-flops, tees and comfy pants.
@f00l Better yet, skip the pants! The sign only said “no shirt, no shoes, no service”.
@narfcake
Giving me ideas, are you?

Packing would involve going somewhere. The last time I went somewhere which involved packing was 4 years ago or so. Last time before that?
Pffft.
@FroodyFrog Maybe when you’re released???
@smkarizona
Trying to decide which direction to steer this… There’s no simple answer.
@FroodyFrog
Released? I thought psycho frogs could wriggle out of anything.
@f00l
Hmmm… this wasn’t one of the ways which I was thinking of employing.

My definition of “on trips” differs.
Moderate if I’m flying, extreme if I’m driving. I suppose there is a whole new class if you own a camper or RV.
Wait, what I meant to say is, “I only bring cheese hats.”
heh heh… Packers…
@PocketBrain
ISWYDT.

I’ll pack one extra pair of socks and underwear otherwise I pack the exact number of shirts and (Days/3) pairs of pants.

Saw an awesome video on superpacking…https://www.facebook.com/OfficialAnacleto/videos/10153462941145841/
I’m moderate, but my wife is “HOLY FUCK WHY DO YOU NEED ALL THOSE THINGS?!”
I am normally a light packer, but I am flying to Atlantic City on Friday for a trade show. It will be a 5 day trip. 3 days on the expo floor, and 2 hours singing Bruce Springsteen at a karaoke bar, means I’ll need an extra pair of clothes.
@jmendenhall
What anout doing the kareoke Springsteen thing naked? Save on packing that way.
I’m a huge pecker on trips.
