For a couple of decades, I used a Hayes Smartmodem 1200 as a door stop, until someone stole it. Then I started using a Mac Mini, which no one stole, even tho it was only three years old at the time. I eventually ripped its guts out and put a Raspberry Pi into it.
All doors stay open on their own unless it’s super windy… Then it’s anything handy/heavy (i.e. book, shoe, chair, random thing off a table etc).
Should get these to use at our ER but state inspectors frown on that and besides ** I’M OFFICIALLY RETIRED** now so only working PRN.
Our bedroom door won’t stay open, it swings almost all the way closed if left to itself. So we have stopper on the wall behind it that has a magnet built in to lock it open.
@SnDMommy We put one of those on our bathroom door after our St. Bernard closed himself in there one day while we were out and about. We don’t know how long he was stuck, but he was miserable when we got home and let him out. It worked great- then we moved. Now [in a bigger house] we have numerous cast-iron toe breakers/door stoppers.
@macromeh Might be a bit of an overreaction! I think doors get “unhinged” by all of those cop shows where people bust down doors or fire at people through doors.
@macromeh Totally ready for ceramic cat on Sidedeal or something. Not too bad quality, but at least cheap (often near free) and somewhat annoying, as any good cat will be.
I’m currently using one of the brake rotors that I haven’t changed out on my car yet, which I bought in anticipation of needing them but turns out, I didn’t. The pads are still in good condition, rotors are rusty at the hub and edge but thickness is still within spec. Since it’s a hybrid, regenerative braking is the primary means in slowing down with the physical brakes actuating only when necessary – hence the longevity of the components.
One of the 8 heads in the duffel bag.
Heroin overdose.
too soon?
@shahnm It is never too soon for an overdose.
It was a broken Xbox until I got off my ass and fixed it.
@PooltoyWolf You fixed the door or the Xbox?
@xobzoo The Xbox lmao
A tote bag full of tote bags hanging from the door knob or a basket of laundry.
A shoe. Or two.
Books are not to be used as doorstops!
their proper use is for leveling furniture…

My daughter did it with a (now broken) pinky toe
/giphy pinky toe
I had one of these for years. Don’t know where he made off to. Haven’t seen him for awhile.
@katbyter That’s cute!
@ybmuG, You need one of these!
@katbyter you made me go out to the shop and get my dog doorstop. Forgot how heavy it was. Meh coozy for size
@katbyter @Kyeh we have several but not one like that! I’ve seen that look…
This is the only one we have out right now
@Kyeh @ybmuG @lonocat apparently they’re “vintage from before 2000” on Etsy. Mine was painted white with brown spots.

Plastic milk bottle full of water that I keep near the door to water some plants on my front stoop.
For a long time we used a 2 liter till one night it finally exploded, that was not fun to clean up. No door to hold open in this house though.
@Star2236, how do you keep intruders and critters out without a door?
Friction. No self closing doors in this house.
I’ve been told a dead door-to-door salesman works quite well.
@phendrick yep that would do it better than anything else!
@mycya4me @phendrick They make good draft excluders, too. At least, for a short while.

You could a Police, The they command it to “Stop” I. The name of theLaw!! It works! The Door is now scared to move unless I ask it or move it!
@mycya4me,
@mycya4me
@mycya4me Or a Supreme, doing “Stop! In the name of love!”
@werehatrack That would work too!
I’ll guess that a TSA agent doing a manual carry-on check would have a better-than-even chance of stopping a Door.
An elastic band, a hanger, or a string tied to something behind the door.
The door into the garage is self closing. If I want it to stay open I use a paint can.
Usually whatever rock is closest
@smyle this is the correct answer
Painted rock. Why? One word: kids
The door frame.
@OnionSoup great answer!
Depends on why the door is attacking me. Has it become unhinged?
@rockblossom

A ceramic cat. Of all the cats in the house, it’s the only one that earns its keep.
@macromeh Totally ready for ceramic cat on Sidedeal or something. Not too bad quality, but at least cheap (often near free) and somewhat annoying, as any good cat will be.
Usually a big toe.
@lisaviolet Yep that always works, But it is NOT pleasant!
A dog toy.
Old computer?

Bright colored dominoes. I know where you can get a deal on some.
