@matthew One of the mini utility knives seems to be adequate most of the time. It only cuts a quarter inch deep, but that's plenty for opening and breaking down boxes. Razor sharp, just replace the blade when it's not.
@tightwad Funny thing is, I thought it was gimmicky until I started using it. It's freaking amazing. The offset blades are great for clamshell packaging. It's plenty tough enough for other jobs. I actually used mine for tin snips on my aluminum siding while putting in a new vented range hood.
Cutting food first. Of course, I do most of my own cooking, so this is natural. Also opening boxes from Amazon, Woot and now Meh. Stripping cable. Cutting cardboard boxes to repurpose them for something else. Trimming supports and strays from a 3d print. Trimming a piece of wood a little. Sharpening pencils in a pinch.
I wasn't sure what constituted Urban Survival but I went with that. Suburban Survival would have been closer to the truth I think. I now have enough tools that knives don't open paint cans, strip cable or open the impossible packages...
Nobody ever actually uses knives. They're just the default weapon until you get a gun or laser pistol, which is usually somewhere obvious in the first couple of rooms of the first stage anyway.
@cj0e Nah I've switched over to GO and I really like it, it was just what I found after a quick search. I was a long time hold out of 1.6 when source first came out though. I think GO legitimately is pretty great, the loot/collection part of it definitely gets me.
@JonT Gotta agree there. The CS Go collecting things has gotten me back into it. I still play some source, mainly GunGame because I love some of the old crazy maps people came up with.
Knife is for cutting.
@jsh139 Knife is a unifork.
@pistol Knife is a silverware.
cutting anyone that messes with the thankgiving gravy.
A surprising variety of tasks, but mostly opening boxes, breaking down boxes

@matthew Same here.
We all know knives are for killing zombies.

Opening boxes, and cutting food. As a pseudo-adult, these tasks now have different knives.

@Kevin Buy an Open It. They're pretty great for all your opening needs (including chest cavities in a pinch!) http://www.amazon.com/Zibra-Open-It-ZPCOPEN-GZ-Package-Opener/dp/B004UIHITY/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1414417737&sr=1-1
@Cinoclav That looks like just the kind of gimmicky crap I tend to buy!

@Starblind Oh, but guns and lasers do a terrible job with the Thanksgiving turkey.
@rockblossom You're probably right, but it would be really really really fun to try.
@Starblind There's always a time and a place to use a knife...
1v1 me
@JonT Still rockin' source? C'mon over to GO! It's great*. *May not actually be "great", but I enjoy it.

Knifes are for KNIFING!
Why use a knife when spoon is all you need?
@hollboll Fork that.
