@somf69 … and then got some of the worse Bond scripts and casting errors. Seriously, seeing Denise Richards slog through tecnobabble like she was up all night memorizing “hard, long words” was gut-wrenching.
@somf69 I thought he was too much of a lightweight to convincingly play James Bond. He’s my least favorite. But maybe I’m biased because of his Remington Steele role.
I vaguely remember the name but not any details. Was that the show with the cone of silence? Maybe I’m thinking of the Man from UNCLE. Was that a comedy? I’ve seen Archer.
@kathyl@AnnaB I was disappointed with the movie they did. I saw Steve Carell do a segment for The Daily Show years before where he was straight up Maxwell Smart, so I was looking forward to the movie, but it just wasn’t very good. The writing wasn’t up to par and some of the casting wasn’t great. Anne Hathaway is a fantastic actress, but I don’t think she was the right choice for 99.
@InnocuousFarmer Would you believe that tens millions of people watched Get Smart every week as appointment TV? Would you believe millions? How about Don Adam’s mother and his dog?
@jqubed yeah, it was a lot of bad choices, and the best casting decision was for the tacked on HyMIE scene. I want more Patrick Warburton.
Over all, it felt like most of the people involved were going “look, we got to make a Get Smart movie” and the rest were oblivious to or apathetic about the original source. They really missed a great opportunity. Still had some fun scenes, so definitely worth a watch. Just don’t expect too much.
@sammydog01 And both with subpar revival movies that expected more from.
They play them on the sub-channels on OTA stations here… but you can find them in a higher quality over at this place http://www.hulu.com/remington-steele
I loved all those '80s P.I. shows. Remington Steele, Magnum, Hart to Hart, Hardcastle and McCormick, Simon and Simon. Let’s relive the magic of the Simon and Simon opening credits sequence, shall we?
@rprebel What about Riptide? I fell in love with GMC Jimmy’s because of it. And man, the gratuitous shots of sexy girls in 80’s intros are hysterical now.
@rprebel That video is a scream! Thanks. I loved Simon and Simon. The first shot was of the library at the school I went to, and I think they did some filming there.
@callow Same here. Apparently when I turned 10, I immediately lost all interest in detective shows because I remember watching at least an episode or two of all the 70’s detective shows shows: Rockford Files, Barnaby Jones, Cannon Mannix, Ironside, McMillan and Wife, Columbo and Kojak (yes, I know Kojak and Columbo were police detectives and not private investigators), but while I remember all those 80’s show, I can’t saw a single episode of any of them.
@DrWorm Yes, I watched all of those 70s shows but in the 80s we were out partying all the time. We watched sports on TV or rented movies to play on that newfangled Betamax with a wired remote!
I’ve heard the name but don’t think I ever saw an episode. When I try to recall it I end up with pictures of Hart to Hart or Scarecrow and Mrs King in my head instead.
Born in 1987,but my parents owned VHS copies of episodes. Same with Moonlighting. A couple of others, too. And then youtube came, and they were able to bingewatch before that was even a word.
Pierce Brosnan ftw!

He was pretty cool long before he became Bond.
@curtise ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@curtise I wonder how long they spent getting that loose hair to fall at just the right angle.
@curtise Yes, Pierce Brosnan was great as Steele, but Stephanie Zimbalist stole my heart.
I literally only know of it in relation to Goldeneye trivia.
@Moose I basically only know it as “what Pierce Brosnan did before he became James Bond.”
I was incredibly surprised at the time to see Tom Baker of Dr Who appear as a shady Interpol detective.
I loved that show.
That he got screwed out of playing James Bond for another 4 years.
@somf69 … and then got some of the worse Bond scripts and casting errors. Seriously, seeing Denise Richards slog through tecnobabble like she was up all night memorizing “hard, long words” was gut-wrenching.

@InnocuousFarmer The Cone of Silence was from Get Smart. A brilliant show.
@InnocuousFarmer Missed it by that much.
@kathyl @AnnaB I was disappointed with the movie they did. @InnocuousFarmer The Man from Uncle and Get Smart were from the 60s- both awesome and still pretty good today.
@InnocuousFarmer Would you believe that tens millions of people watched Get Smart every week as appointment TV? Would you believe millions? How about Don Adam’s mother and his dog?

This just made me feel old. Thanks, meh.

i can’t remember how to insert a video inline so click here please
@rprebel just copy the video link and paste.
@rprebel What about Riptide? I fell in love with GMC Jimmy’s because of it. And man, the gratuitous shots of sexy girls in 80’s intros are hysterical now.
@rprebel I remember all of those shows very well but didn’t watch them. Macgyver was another one.
@rprebel That video is a scream! Thanks. I loved Simon and Simon. The first shot was of the library at the school I went to, and I think they did some filming there.
@callow I bought the boxed set of Macgyver for my teenager- she loves them.
@Pamtha I loved riptide too. Thanks for the memories.
@Pamtha An unknown-to-me Mike Post theme. Neat.
@rprebel ugh. I saw way too much of Simon and Simon. No, Dad, it is not my favorite show just because it has my name in the title.
@simplersimon Did you see it in reruns, because there wasn’t exactly anything better on in those days.
@callow Same here. @Pamtha Riptide was great too. I loved that helicopter!
@Pamtha Loved this show. The robot came to our local amusement park one summer. It was awesome.
@sammydog01 There’s a new Macgyver series that started last week, your teenager will probably love that even more!
@DrWorm Yes, I watched all of those 70s shows but in the 80s we were out partying all the time. We watched sports on TV or rented movies to play on that newfangled Betamax with a wired remote!
