While discussing important Mediocre topics at work amongst the CS people the conversation compelled me to search “can camels swim?” And after that “can giraffes swim?”
@cengland0 Funny, Cher was actually talking about her age at her concert last week. She mentioned how she hates saying it because everyone applauds. It seems instead of appreciating how amazing she looks for her age, it just reminds her how old she actually is. I have to say, for being almost 73…
@cinoclav I was watching Mamma Mia Here we go again and Cher was acting as Meryl Streep’s mother and I didnt think that was likely and after looking it up, its not possible. There is only a 3 year age differene sort of making their roles unbelievable.
@cinoclav Absolutely agree with you if you’re talking about the second movie “Mamma Mia Here We Go Again.” There were too many flashbacks and too many young versions of the older people in the current version and hard to remember who was who and it wasn’t explained very well.
Lucky for IMDB because we could see each actor and see that this person was playing young donna, this person plays old donna, and this person plays young bill, and this person plays old bill, etc. Without IMDB, I would be completely lost in the movie and not like it very much.
I will tell you that the songs actually worked better than the Les Miserables ones. Listening to Hugh Jackman reading his script by singing the words was killing me. It was a good story line but would have been much better without it being a musical. So if I had to rate them, Mamma Mia Here We Go Again was better music but Les Miserables was better story.
@cengland0 Les Mis is a different topic altogether. I was actually referring to shows that were written specifically to use preexisting music as opposed to music written for preexisting stories. They’re commonly referred to as ‘jukebox musicals.’ The entire story-line of Mamma Mia was just ridiculous. I had originally seen it on Broadway, then again when it was part of a subscription series I belong to at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philly. The only reason I saw it again was because I’m still a fan of Abba. The songs really don’t work very well with the story. They just kind of shoe horned them in there. I had also seen Movin’ Out on Broadway. While the cast didn’t actually sing the songs, the story just flowed better and matched Billy Joel’s songs surprisingly well.
@Barney@RiotDemon With two of my granddaughters fully Alexa certified (and 3 and 4 years old) I get to hear it multiple times every time I watch them. Not to mention more Disney princess related songs than any adult male should ever have to endure. The timing is just about as the previous earworm effect has faded. If this keeps up, I may have to start taking testosterone supplements. Right now, my sole defenses are changing the lyrics to the songs or turning off the music so we can read a book, roughhouse or play outside.
@cengland0 Right, I found this as well. Turns out generally camels don’t swim, except one particular type which is endangered. And giraffes generally can swim but it isn’t easy for them it seems.

@cengland0 Along with making the rest of the movie unbelievable. Mamma Mia was the worst attempt at building a story around existing music.

@Barney why?
@RiotDemon They were talking about it on the radio this morning – that it’s an earworm song. They were right.
@Barney I looked it up to find out what the hell the hype was about one day, I’m really sad I did. It gets stuck in my head all the fucking time.
