Kokomo is absolutely not terrible. It’s catchy, gets stuck in your head for days, gets stuck in other people’s heads thanks to your terrible rendition of it (practically like a virus), makes you want to end this existential life after the first couple of days of it bouncing around your skull, but I don’t see anything bad or terrible about it at all…
Admit it. Here’s the REAL reason you posted this song in two words: JOHN STAMOS. Many have suspected Mediocre Laboratories of being in on the STAMOS conspiracy, now we know. Well played, gentleman. Well played, indeed.
Of course it’s the tax dodge. The beauty of a well executed con is that you can tell the marks up front what you’re doing and they still can’t catch you.
Methinks another Leverage binge is in the cards. Thanks for ruining my plan to start getting some exercise, Meh.
@cranky1950 The Surfaris did it before the Ventures. The Beach Boys/Fat Boys version of “Wipeout” (1987) sort of walked the line between “remake” and new song that served as an homage.
About 5 years ago I heard a local DJ ask the trivia question “What was the Beach Boy’s last #1 record in the U.S.?” and he added “Hint: it was in the 80’s and you don’t think of it as a Beach Boys song”. To me, the second half of the hint totally rules out “Kokomo”, so when a listener called and guessed “Wipeout” I thought he may have had it. It was released in 1987, you don’t think of it as a Beach Boys song, and it did fairly well in the charts (actually #12). The DJ spit out a vitriolic “The Beach Boys didn’t do ‘Wipeout’ you idiot!”. Of course the answer was “Kokomo”, and the DJ (I don’t think D stands for “disc” in his case) totally rebuffed the numerous callers who tried to correct him that the Beach Boys did indeed record 'Wipeout" in 1987 (I actually think they recorded an obscure cover back in the 60’s) He also didn’t have much of answer for those who questioned “Why do you not think of ‘Kokomo’ as being by the Beach Boys song?”
I always say “taste is indisputable”. If you like a song, then, for your taste, it is a good song regardless of what someone else might think. That being said, I find it unfathomable that anyone would claim that “Kokomo” is not terrible
“Kokomo” is a disgrace to the legacy of The Beach Boys, and yet more evidence that Mike Love is in league with Satan or similar forces of evil. I mean, we know he supports Trump.
The bigger issue is with the poll title, not the write-up

I liked kokomo

@JustKen They’ve sold ATMOS speakers a couple of times. COINCIDENCE?!?!
@ELUNO Exactly!
@JustKen You have to admit it, Stamos has great hair.
@JustKen I found John in my prison in Prison Architect game, that I started playing because of meh. Such conspiracy.
@RiotDemon I hope you punished him multiple times!

What about using"Jimmy Buffet Must Die"?
Or maybe “Dead Parrothead Zone”
Beach Boys songs without Brian Wilson are not Beach Boys songs.
…except maybe “Wipeout.” The Fat Boys filled in for Brian Wilson quite nicely.
@wickhameh Agreed. 100%
@wickhameh Wipeout was done by the Ventures
@wickhameh Beaches Boys were a bad Dick Dale clone.

@DrWorm Au contraire the Jardines are not the beach boys. they are back stabbing trumpanzies.

I’m surprised you didn’t use the song “Montigo Bay” to sell a Contigo mug.
I think you should have sang it and made it the daily video.
GAAH! I only had to glance at the first couple of lines to realize what you’ve done. My brain will never be the same again!

BRIAN WILSON FOREVER.
@sanspoint That should Brian Wilson wherever you are forever.
I sang along.
The real question is, are we ever going to find out who answered the poll correctly. What were they thinking?
Yes, the poll says “we” and I am staff, but I have no insight into the polls.
@katylava To know who answered correctly, you must first know what the correct answer(s) were.
@dashcloud yes, and somebody knows what that was, but will they ever tell us?
I didn’t read the product write-up today. Partly because it looked like a song. I didn’t read others entries here, either. I must be in a bad mood.
I didn’t realize what it was until I clicked on the link. Then I sang along… because I am a Beach Boys fan.
