I have a coupon code to buy an Anova Precision sous vide cooker. Because I already bought one. Earlier today I had a Thermoworks ad, which I have also bought. Both, incidentally, offered slightly better deals than I got, which doesn't make me feel better, but time has passed and I already own the goods.
That's the big flaw in personalized advertising, not flagging when someone has followed through.
I did have a kickstarter preorder that I saw a better ad for before the item shipped. I wrote the seller and they said sure, that actually they were upgrading everyone who preordered to the better deal (free carrying case). That was nice of them and made me feel appreciated.
@duodec yeah, iirc the $50 off was around the time they announced the wifi model. You might see that $129 again by the end of the year, but I'm not sure if they'll go much lower for a while unless they discontinue them.
I highly recommend it. I haven't done anything with out that didn't come out absolutely terrific. I needed pulled pork in 5 hours last week, threw in some vacuum bagged boneless pork chops and spitballed a temperature to get it done fast (195) and when I got home from work, they made great pulled pork.
@djslack I've been reading about great steaks and fish, but that sounds like a good option too. What do you use for the actual cooking container/waterbath?
@duodec i have two stockpots that I mostly use, I think a 12 qt enameled one and a 20 qt aluminum one that I also use for cooking at Mardi gras and camping. I throw some aluminum foil over the top to keep evaporation in check and good to go. I've been meaning to get one of the polycarbonate tubs but so far the stockpots have worked fine cooking for 2-4. If I got a bigger container I'd do some sides too if I find things with compatible temperatures. I think the Anova will handle a 5 gallon bath, probably more if you insulate or use an ice chest.
I've done ribs, chicken breasts, salmon fillets, steaks, eggs, longer pulled pork with half a pork shoulder and had results that range from great to the best thing ever. Cooked with both Ziploc bags and vacuum bags once I ran across a Foodsaver for cheap.
@thismyusername I like that it wires into the existing doorbell for power and even rings it. Technology that can sort of cross-over like that is a big plus in my book.
Anajet, a direct to garment (DTG) printer I wouldn't suggest.
I get better targeted ads at shirt.woot. Typically they from recently visited sites (Amazon, TeeTurtle, Zoro) or other shirt sites, some of which use blanks that make a mutant anvil look like an improvement.
@narfcake the print shop at my gf's work runs a pair of anajets and I wasn't blown away by them either, though they did go through some tweaks and firmware updates that kicked up the quality a bit. Are there any names that you would recommend, so that if they need a replacement they can do better?
@djslack Epson based is still the way to go for value, and with that, I give my nod to Spectra. It's well proven (unlike newer Neoflex vaporware) with very reasonable operating costs.
Zulilly. But I'm not an ad clicker. And no more boots for me, nope. I've got a slight problem with boots and if I buy one more pair, my husband will hold an intervention.
But I really do need one more pair of over the knee ones...hmmm.
Aside from my regular shoe collection fetish, I have a thing for duck boots and muck boots and snow boots and the like. Esp LL Bean. I won't disclose how many pairs I have, due to embarrassment and shame.
Since I live in north central Texas, and not on a ranch, the weather offers me perhaps 1 day a year to wear them, so as you can deduce, I need lots.
@f00l I bought Northface duck/snow boots last winter, but they are not every day winter boots. They are for the heavy snow. Now I needed boots to wear in the cold. I also have my work boots.
I might have a boot problem myself. Never mind all the shoes. I just can't wear the same pair every day (is what I tell the hubby.)
@looseneck Same here. I just bought a pair of black, knee high boots, and the next day came home with brown ones. He said, "didn't you just buy boots?", as if they were remotely similar.
@narfcake What if some mysterious unlikely event happened to all your catshirts? Wouldn't you need another one or several, just in case? Be prepared and all that?
@f00l I have a couple extra catshirts and Ramy shirts (for my doggie) in my truck in case I ever need any. I used to keep extra woot shirts in my desk at the office too, in case I needed to look a very slight bit more professional than say a TeeTurtle shirt.
I've been seeing ads for what I consider to be cool stuff from banggood, although I've never ordered from them, and MCM Electronics, which is where I get my Raspberry Pi stuff (they are in Ohio, UPS ground is overnight from Ohio).
I try to train the ads by using incognito mode when I am checking prices on stuff I am not interested in, and letting Google watch me when I am browsing stuff I am interested in.
Sometimes I screw up. I bought a bike rack for the car, and let Google see me research. For weeks after that, I was getting bike rack ads. I only need the one.
@connorbush, Did you get compensated to start this thread? You sure should have, because this has got to be the most attention any of these ads has seen.
On my pcs? Nothing. Got adblock. On my tablet I get Touch of modern ads. Tried going there the other night. Fuck them and any other sites that make you sign up to even view their products.
@clonetek I signed up a bs account using a mailinator address. They do have some neat stuff but I agree about their tactics, I'd look to them for ideas and shop around elsewhere, but they had pretty good deals on the few things I did cross check.
Ok, in this thread, in one post, i mentioned Zulilly, and in several other posts i mentioned boots.
So the new Meh day dawns at midnight Eastern Time, and my new ad for the day is a Zulilly ad for boots. They missed that i crave snowboots tho. They show fashion boots. I hope i dont start a new craving.
@jqubed You didn't click through for more? McInnes Rolled Rings produces seamless rolled rings ranging from 4” (100 mm) to 144” (3660 mm) in carbon, alloy and stainless steel. By combining the latest in ring rolling technology with experienced people, McInnes delivers steel rolled rings at the lowest possible cost
They get about their SEO by using the phrase "rolled rings" in a dozen different ways on their home page.
I get a lot of ads for products I can't afford, mostly because any product that doesn't list a price on the site is almost certainly out of my price range and not worth the barrage of sales calls/emails/etc from inquiring about the price.
My bizarre experience is that Amazon has suddenly started suggesting "indoor gardening" supplies cough cough I can't think of anything I have bought or browsed that would have any relationship to setting up a grow house. I bought a Nerf football and a set of dishes, though.

@djslack How much was the deal for? I've been thinking about getting one but keep missing the Amazon sales
@duodec $139 with code FALL40. Best I've seen was $50 off at Father's Day.
@djslack Thanks. It looks like they may be starting to clearance them with the new wifi model coming out soon. I think I'll hold out a little longer.
Heh! Now I'm seeing the ad for it too!
@duodec yeah, iirc the $50 off was around the time they announced the wifi model. You might see that $129 again by the end of the year, but I'm not sure if they'll go much lower for a while unless they discontinue them.

@djslack Awesome, thanks for the info! I'm definitely going to be getting one in the near future.
Ad-blocker.
@Pavlov same. I don't see any advertisements. Only way to roll.
@mfladd Yup. It always surprises me when I watch a YouTube video on my phone and there's an ad before the video starts.
@Pavlov Three ad blockers. Wimp.
@Pavlov Ditto. Ad-blocker. I don't see no stinkin' ads.
@editorkid
Hmm . . . You need three to do what my one does . . . and I'm the wimp?
;-P
I only see the eff.org ad :)
@thismyusername - Same here. Every day.
@thismyusername you can custom block that ad in your adblocker if you so choose
Ditto what @thismyusername said:
tritto what they said... (usually anyways)
@baqui63 What they saidl
Ring video doorbell. I was researching them earlier today, so I guess it's relevant.
@SpenceMan01 I like the concept, I am waiting for the eventual $99 sale, hopefully this holiday cycle. :)
@thismyusername I like that it wires into the existing doorbell for power and even rings it. Technology that can sort of cross-over like that is a big plus in my book.
hai guyz
but its for Motorcycle Superstore otherwise. because google and cookies and spies..
I see some power surge piece of shit
I unblocked the ad and saw Zulilly. Having never been there, I clicked and found the fall boots I've been looking for - thanks!
@looseneck beware - zulily is crack.
@Thumperchick I bought my boots and started looking around. I closed the tab quick. I could spend a lot of money there.
@looseneck lol, you unblock ads once and they get you to buy something. Block them again quick!
@luvche21 I did! I never fall for the ads either. I'mma gonna blame @Jaremelz because I haven't gotten in on the fun yet :)
@looseneck But yay for new boots!

@jaremelz You know, you're right. I can't blame you.

@looseneck Yay! Boots and treats for all.
Today, Bellroy Wallets. I have no idea why...
On my phone, often, Zulilly. Today, a clothing store for supermodels called Halebob.
Their targeting must off. On those days i am deluded enuf to think i might resemble a supermodel, i wear Salvation Army.
On most sites i see ads for Audible, B&N, Alibris, etc. They know me. Except by the time i see the ad, i prob already visited the site that day.
Anajet, a direct to garment (DTG) printer I wouldn't suggest.

@f00l I have a thing for all boots, I'm not a discriminator! I am afraid to count them. As long as I don't count them, I don't have a problem, right?
@jaremelz Does that same method work for catshirts?
@f00l I bought Northface duck/snow boots last winter, but they are not every day winter boots. They are for the heavy snow. Now I needed boots to wear in the cold. I also have my work boots.
I might have a boot problem myself. Never mind all the shoes. I just can't wear the same pair every day (is what I tell the hubby.)
@narfcake Absolutely!
@looseneck Same here. I just bought a pair of black, knee high boots, and the next day came home with brown ones. He said, "didn't you just buy boots?", as if they were remotely similar.
@jaremelz Hooray! Now if @acraigl would do one ...
@narfcake Wait til you see what's coming next. Wink, wink. Spoiler: not a cat shirt.
@ACraigL Still wanting to be goat, I see.
@narfcake
What if some mysterious unlikely event happened to all your catshirts? Wouldn't you need another one or several, just in case? Be prepared and all that?
@looseneck
Ok now i have to check out the ones you mentioned. What if this year is Endless Blizzard Year in north TX?
I wonder if my closet door will break if i stuff another pair of snow boots in there?
@f00l These are the ones I bought. They keep my feet dry and toasty and they are cute too!

@f00l I have a couple extra catshirts and Ramy shirts (for my doggie) in my truck in case I ever need any. I used to keep extra woot shirts in my desk at the office too, in case I needed to look a very slight bit more professional than say a TeeTurtle shirt.

@hamjudo exactly. I saw ads for kitchenaid mixers for months after I bought one.
@connorbush, Did you get compensated to start this thread? You sure should have, because this has got to be the most attention any of these ads has seen.
@pitamuffin I did not; however, I am open to getting paid.
Sponsor. Who ever they are they are too lazy to even add a graphic.
Ads? This made me unblock ads for Meh, cause they should get a little more of someone else's money for a change.
5 makeup tips for older women.
Someone has to be blamed for that!
Then when I posted this and went back to the main page, I got an ad for live in help for the elderly!
Come on guys! I'm not even up to early retirement age!
@smilingjack Hey, you have a daughter my age! 😝 //runs away
I see a lot of people use an adblocker - I do too, but Meh is getting paid for it at least:

Google Contributor is the bomb. The awesomeness of adblocker without any of the guilt:
https://contributor.google.com
@Collin1000 Only awesome if you like Google tracking every site you ever go to. I personally block Google Analytics for privacy concerns.
On my pcs? Nothing. Got adblock. On my tablet I get Touch of modern ads. Tried going there the other night. Fuck them and any other sites that make you sign up to even view their products.

I got this one the other day and screenshotted it because it confused me. I'm not sure what it's for or why I was targeted.
