So @shawn, I’m curious… what is the logic above and what did I do to break it (I originally did a -q 9, then edited that to a -q 3, then tried replying with a -q 3, but I’m guessing I’d already scared the bot away from this little bit.)
@Hypnos I had similar ones from Ikea. They won’t light up a room very bright. They’re more of an accent light. I used them as a fill light for making videos on my workbench.
Light strips??!! Oh yeah. The PERSEID METEOR SHOWER peaks tonight! Go out and look up.
oh wow, here’s a stream from NASA http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nasa-msfc
I didn’t know what it was at first because the music was pretty hip (‘hip’ right?).
@OldCatLady there’s some break in the clouds, and I’m going to keep checking. I can’t be too mad at the clouds and rain, beacue of the drought we have. And I can’t be too mad about missing the deal because of pause-it seems west-coast fair. Maybe I’ll get up at 8am. ha. Maybe.
@wew every year at this time, we’re on vacation away from the city, in places with minimal light pollution, and every year it’s completely cloudy or foggy. Nothing to see here, folks, move along. Finally this year no cloud cover expected, so I set my alarm for 4:30, but woke up a hour later, when it was already quite light out. Missed the whole thing. Turns out I set the alarm for pm, not am. Dang.
@DarkHuD I’ve seen a flicker from some. It comes from a chintzy power supply usually: wall power is 120 volts AC, but LEDs are diodes and only light up when current flows in one direction, so you get a slightly visible 60Hz flicker. Some people are more sensitive to that than others. A good power supply will fix this by fully “rectifying” AC to steady DC, but a cheap one will not. Hard to tell from the specs on this what kind of power supply it is.
@Kidsandliz I think the exact opposite. I would prefer 5000K to 6000K light. Those are closer to daylight which is more natural. The 2700K and 3000K LEDs are just mocking the old incandescent bulbs that used resistive filaments and did not have the ability to be the proper color unless you paid extreme amounts for your bulbs by getting halogen or other technologies.
@lljk@alexpope But that’s not what’s happening. Selling out in 20 minutes would be much preferable to the pause.
I realize they still consider themselves in beta or whatever, but I do hope the powers that be end up viewing this recent trial as a failure and the move on.
New Meh rule for me: Breakers help me off the fence and keep my place clutter free for one more day. Now, if only I could get Amazon to make it so easy to say no…
Getting real sick of this deal pausing crap. 27 minutes in to check the deal & once again I can’t access it. I’m not going to remember to check again in the morning. How many more times are the loyal customers going to be teased & tortured? Just very frustrating
One of the specs on Amazon indicated the light strips themselves are 12 volt. I’m thinking these might be handy for our off the grid cabin… however the deal is paused.
@RedOak it’s hard to get used to, but I really appreciate it so I can get normal sleep! Consider this your reminder it’s about to unlock (hopefully you get an email that I tagged you)
For those wondering about the color temperature: these lights put out a warm, golden-yellow hue similar to incandescent bulbs. That’s good for a cozy feeling like in a traditional kitchen, study/library, cabins, bedrooms, etc.
Cooler (bluer/whiter) lights are better for craft rooms, bathrooms, offices, and workshops. They help let you see colors more accurately (paints, cosmetics, etc). I think they give a more modern, futuristic feel as well.
Dear meh, as a trusted official of the East Coast Whiners Delegation I would again like to thank you for the circuit breaker which allowed me access to a deal that would have been otherwise sold out. Thank you.
@headsader Who’s that someone you’re reffering to? If you mean meh’s buyers, then they already know supplies are limited to whatever the manufacturer/distributor has on hand.
@headsader Pro-tip for the next round, if you see the deal paused that means there was strong demand at the original posting time, and there’s not many left. If you want the item be ready to pounce as soon as it comes back on - you know the exact time.
@redjeep0 Those led strips are nice, but the adhesive sometimes doesn’t stick well enough. I had to fabricate clips to hold it in place ever few LEDs. The remote is cool because it works through walls (who cares? well I have my 3D printer with LED illuminated enclosure in the next room with a webcam; this lets me control the lighting remotely). Only problem is that all the remotes are the same so you can’t have separately controlled LED strings in the same area.
@narfcake I have been watching the statistics of how many things are sold. That’s the lowest number I’ve seen, by a country mile. Of course they sold out almost immediately.
DAMMIT! I’ve been waiting all day for this, even had an alarm set for a ten minutes warning, placed my order for two sets as soon as it hit 3pm CDT, and I get “Oops! Sorry something went terribly wrong.” And, then, in red letters “All sold out.” SHIT!
@jetlag@lurker I’ve had luck using the forum VMP-only slash buy function like you see some doing above, but this last release is sometimes like a lottery. By time news has spread the token 4pm holdback just isn’t holding up to demand at all on exciting days.

3000K? meh!
@clonetek Agreed. Very yellow.
@clonetek I was about to buy them until I saw they were not 2700k like all of the other LEDs I have.
Something went terribly wrong
Bulb life: 8000
What? 8000 seconds, minutes, microseconds? Days, Hours, years?
@cengland0 yes
@cengland0 Parsecs.
@cengland0 close to infinite if you do not turn it on

@medz now THAT’S an ass load!
@haydesigner THIS is an ass load.
Or, just hauling ass. I get them mixed up.

@baqui63 Sorry, you can only buy 3 more of these (you already bought 0).
@mediocrebot so, you can’t cope with an edit, huh?
/buy -q 3
@baqui63 apparently, I confuzled something.
So @shawn, I’m curious… what is the logic above and what did I do to break it (I originally did a -q 9, then edited that to a -q 3, then tried replying with a -q 3, but I’m guessing I’d already scared the bot away from this little bit.)
@baqui63 slashbuys only work on comments, not replies. Additionally edits are not parsed. Posting a new comment with the command would work.
Edit: I see you had already done this below. Nevermind.
@djslack Thanks.
I was not aware of the “only on comments” (does anyone ever read the documentation anymore?) and it certainly makes sense to not parse edits.
/giphy Thanks, I learned something today
@baqui63 WTF?!!
Yay lights!
/giphy ongoing-merciful-patch
Kind of want these, but not sure how well three would do for lighting a small room. Walk in closet lighting does sound nice though…
@Hypnos I had similar ones from Ikea. They won’t light up a room very bright. They’re more of an accent light. I used them as a fill light for making videos on my workbench.

@wew We are solidly clouded over, showers expected, mosquitoes aflitter. I’ll settle for a light strip
@OldCatLady there’s some break in the clouds, and I’m going to keep checking. I can’t be too mad at the clouds and rain, beacue of the drought we have. And I can’t be too mad about missing the deal because of pause-it seems west-coast fair. Maybe I’ll get up at 8am. ha. Maybe.

Am I the only one that gets sick from these LED strip lights? Dunno why, but they cause me terrible eyestrain.
@DarkHuD Don’t buy bright/blue white. Buy something closer in color (temperature) to “regular” lamp bulbs. That should help.
@mhuyck The wall wart on these would suggest it’s DC.
ETA: Manual says 12V.
@cengland0 Well natural daylight would work too. And yes would likely be nicer. My point was that the “color” they are using is harder on the eyes.
It’s pretty dark under the kitchen cabinets. In for two.

pausing the deal 20 minutes in until 8 am is annoying as hell, and not very “meh-like”
@alexpope I for once support the pause
@alexpope Would selling out in 20 minutes be less annoying? If it would then just pretend that’s what is happening.
@lljk @alexpope But that’s not what’s happening. Selling out in 20 minutes would be much preferable to the pause.
I realize they still consider themselves in beta or whatever, but I do hope the powers that be end up viewing this recent trial as a failure and the move on.
#stoptheamazonizationofmeh.
@alexpope Seeing that those of us on the east coast are in bed at midnight, a pause to allow us an opportunity to enjoy these deals is more than fair.
Weak sauce. I was about to buy. I won’t be awake when it restarts.

Eh, that’s a lot of wiring and power brick for a few feet of lights.
My mop just broke today, shortly after yesterday’s deal sold out. More mop deals please!
@cptoblivion i hear walmart has mops
The east coast people should stay up to look at the deal. If they miss it oh well. Meh…
@ssue it’s ok @snapster paused it for them.
@thismyusername Yes, we must take care of them, they need their beauty sleep you know!
@ssue
New Meh rule for me: Breakers help me off the fence and keep my place clutter free for one more day. Now, if only I could get Amazon to make it so easy to say no…
@cire5671 indeed. I’ve already been saved by three breakers. I’m saving money and I guess meh isn’t missing out on sales. win-win!
I just remembered I have a 6-pack of those round hang-up closet lights. Thanks for pausing the deal meh! You just saved me $30!
Getting real sick of this deal pausing crap. 27 minutes in to check the deal & once again I can’t access it. I’m not going to remember to check again in the morning. How many more times are the loyal customers going to be teased & tortured? Just very frustrating

@RedOak I looked at the manual. It says 12V also.
@RedOak thats what i was thinking. not that i have an off grid cabin, but i do have a lot of lithium batteries. great for when the power goes out.
@RedOak it’s hard to get used to, but I really appreciate it so I can get normal sleep! Consider this your reminder it’s about to unlock (hopefully you get an email that I tagged you)

@mfladd Double check your order. Ninja edits don’t work with MediocreBot.
@narfcake Nope, ninja edit worked!!!
@mfladd I learned something new this morning. Of course being 5-ish am, I’ll forget this when the real morning comes.
@mfladd but… ninja edits aren’t supposed to work with the buy bot… @shawn
@Thumperchick Well the first time I forgot the dash. Edited to put it in and it worked.

@snapster Yeah, I would’ve figured that any order with “kitten” in the number would’ve generated some cat pics too.
@mediocrebot whoa, @snapster got Village of the Damned…
@narfcake no joke. instead I get devil kids
@snapster Let’s see what we get without hyphens:
/image helpless unhealthy kitten
@narfcake good idea. Maybe @mediocrebot should remove the hyphens.
@snapster Next time if you don’t like it edit your comment and save. I got different gif when I did this.
@shawn Whatever it takes to get more relevant cat pics.
@caffeine_dude 1. That was a MediocreBot generated post. 2. /image doesn’t randomize like /giphy does.
@shawn do you need any better test case than that? It seems one can’t touch the Internet water without being infected with cats!
…and it happened to the guy signing the paychecks.
@RedOak
http://shirt.woot.com/offers/the-internet-defined
@shawn does the minus sign signal to Google to exclude the following word? Or at least all those minus signs confuse Google?
@shawn yep. With hyphens (or bigger dashes):
@RedOak It’s Google. You’re supposed to be able to fall on the keyboard and expect magic to happen.
Wow, just what I always wanted. Triple at that! The good light is shining on me today.
These dam things will look good under my Horse… Ill straps a car battery to his ass.
@wickhameh
Dear meh, as a trusted official of the East Coast Whiners Delegation I would again like to thank you for the circuit breaker which allowed me access to a deal that would have been otherwise sold out. Thank you.

@wickhameh If they do not work for my planned area, I can always use them to light up my garage tool area.
@caffeine_dude Not a bad idea!
/image duly-incompetent-clover
@vkaviani Hey I didn’t know Nigeria had attorneys. They should’ve gone with “Four Leaf Clover” as a name.
@snapster I’m moreso surprised by that there are copyright laws there. In some countries, copyright is interpreted as a right to copy.
@snapster I scrolled up to see what you were talking about and read the last four words and was very misled about what that document was about.
This is stupid. I go on at 5:15 and the sale is on hold until 8 am. I go on at 8:15 and it is sold out?!?
@headsader I was thinking the same thing.
@headsader 8:15 isn’t 8am
@headsader Nope. This is supply and demand at work.
@narfcake Then someone still is working on learning about supply.
@headsader Who’s that someone you’re reffering to? If you mean meh’s buyers, then they already know supplies are limited to whatever the manufacturer/distributor has on hand.
@headsader when we hire you how will you fix it
@headsader Pro-tip for the next round, if you see the deal paused that means there was strong demand at the original posting time, and there’s not many left. If you want the item be ready to pounce as soon as it comes back on - you know the exact time.
For anyone missing this deal, or wanting more lights, I recently bought and installed this. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MHLIFO8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
works well in my RV. I bought a few more things from the same shipper such as angled adapters and used speaker wire to extend the length between the runs of lights.
I put the order in the hard way, but it worked, at 12:03
/giphy legal-neutral-shame
No one is commenting about how they only had 1400 of these to sell. Inventory up before you sell, Meh!
@Fuzzalini What’s there to comment about? meh can’t sell anymore than what the manufacturer/distributor had left to clear out.
@Fuzzalini “You snooze, you lose” has always been the way it is around here.
@narfcake I have been watching the statistics of how many things are sold. That’s the lowest number I’ve seen, by a country mile. Of course they sold out almost immediately.
@Fuzzalini that would take the fun out of it.
@Fuzzalini They’re not sold out. More will be available at 4 PM EST, for the delectation of VMPs.
/giphy wolf snarl
@Fuzzalini You probably complain about not getting a fuku as well. Has that helped?
@Fuzzalini Your “country mile” needs calibrating.
Last 5 sellouts:
Mop - 1999
Ice - 1096
Mixer - 598
Backpack - 396
Necklace - 996
4 out of the 5 are LOWER, which makes the currently paused 1367 nowhere close to the “lowest”.
For the mathematically challenged, these have been selling at a pace of about 38 sets per minute.
@Fuzzalini still more evidence that @snapster is the biggest troll on the interwebz
@unixrab you are just sad you couldn’t buy them in the VMP-only release.
@snapster had’em for 2 yrs now… and paid TWICE AS MUCH SO THERE!!! … wait.
Well, that sold out fast. I was only able to get 3. I didn’t even have time to sign into my other account and buy more. Gawd, what a load of shit
@capguncowboy
@narfcake
4:02pm: Saved again by a @-three-times-a-day speedy sellout! Wallet thankful.
