@heartny@werehatrack@ybmuG we used to sort of laugh back in the 4G days. That you knew exactly where in the hospital you couldn’t roam on whichever service. So for example AT&T would work until you cross this Corridor and then it would work anymore but if you had a Verizon phone it would. And when you went back if you had a Verizon phone it would stop working but the AT&T won’t start. It was sort of odd. It’s less of a problem in the new hospital that they built.
@heartny
I always wondered why you didn’t see more arcade style games in laundromats for that reason. I mean, you were already sitting on a pile of quarters…
There is one tucked in a corner of our ER waiting room (now hidden behind a stand holding an advertisement for some of our services). Hasn’t been active for many years.
That’s perfectly normal.
Or maybe you’re not perfectly normal.
Or maybe I amn’t.
@zhicks1987 been a looooong time since i saw one. Maybe i don’t frequent the right places.
@zhicks1987 Of course it’s perfectly normal! Now get off my lawn.

Does it still work?
@Kyeh sadly i didn’t pick up the receiver. I’ll check tomorrow.
All the young’uns are saying:
@MrGoodGuy Don’t put yer lips on it!
Looks like it’s owned by Frontier.
@cfg83 That recently got purchased by Verizon
@cfg83 The airline? Talk about diversification!
@ircon96 Frontier Airlines? Ooops, I should have said Frontier Communications …
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frontier_Communications
/showme Computer router made by “Frontier” with wings and jet engines on it.
@cfg83 Here’s the image you requested for “Computer router made by Frontier with wings and jet engines on it.”
@mediocrebot Hrmmm, looks like there is an engine fire.
@cfg83 It gave me a chuckle picturing the Frontier planes’ seatbacks with payphones instead of the usual gadgets.
Not surprising on a Frontier flight!
@cfg83 @ircon96 also not surprising for Frontier Communications
There’s a working payphone in my local Laundromat that still uses quarters in their washers and dryers.
@heartny That actually makes sense. I suppose this one does as well. It’s by the elevators in a hospital just outside a couple of patient units.
@heartny @ybmuG There are dead spots in some hospitals where cell phones don’t work, and not just in Radiology.

@chienfou @heartny but then you might have to make a choice between doing your last load of drying and one more game of Galaga
It looked like it might have been in a prison. Notice the ‘collect calls’ sticker.
I’m glad I brought my credit card when that happened to me!
@jkawaguchi @therealjrn
search
Didn’t they take it away from you during the cavity
What is this wondrous newfangled invention?
If you put enough of these up, maybe they could replace the cellphone!
Picked up the receiver. No dial tone. And I wasn’t going to spend a quarter to see if that made a difference
@ybmuG it’d probably be 2 quarters anyway.
@kittykat9180 @ybmuG
I always have a little zipper bag in my car console for Aldi shopping. I’ll be ready in case I run into a payphone!
@kittykat9180 @therealjrn @ybmuG Expect no Quarter!

A working one would be a tourist attraction
And possibly useful to Superman.
@f00l
Maybe if it was in a booth not mounted to a wall.
I wonder how many people have put quarters in that thing thinking that it works?? There might be a cache there!

The only ones I’ve seen recently were in museums. There’s still broken ones littering a highway offramp though.
