Weight loss story
27Cause I think of you like family… Yes a little disfunctional, and we always have the weird ones… no names will be given . I wanted to share my success… I’ve tried a lot of diets over the years, this one is working. I’m down 9.5% body weight. I haven’t been this light since 2013. I’m fitting back into the jeans I had in high school; well the ones that didn’t fall apart or weren’t already 4 sizes too large.
How? Intermittent fasting is what it’s called. My Dr recommended it. But I call it the black coffee diet. I only eat between 11 AM and 7 PM. other than that I can drink as much black coffee and water that I want. It’s working. I’ve technically been on it for a little over a month. But I’ve kind of been doin it for 3 months prior (about 1/2 the time, as I was too busy at work to eat breakfast.).
Just wanted to share… that if you haven’t seen a lot of me recently… too late… It’s going away.

wow that picture… I’d totally look great in that dress!
Congratulations!
We just started this. Morning is easy because I seldom eat breakfast. No more late night snacks is a change, though. We’ll see.
@medz The late night snacks are easy… If I’m that hungry I go to bed.
Congrats! I keep thinking of trying this!
Ummm… You eat between 11 am and 7 pm - and that works? Interesting.
I did intermittent fasting one time based on a guy at work who slimmed down DRAMATICALLY (over time). It was simply not eating anything twice a week from sundown on day 1 to sunup on day 3. I didn’t have that much weight to lose, but it worked somewhat and had me feeling a lot better.
It was hard to start, but easy to follow once you were in it because all you have to do is - not eat! And just water to drink, I guess black coffee would be ok but nothing with sugars. Of course you spend all day THINKING about all the stuff you’ll eat on day 3, but strangely I wasn’t all that hungry by then.
I have also had success with intermittent fasting. In my research, I read that you should cycle between fasting days and normal eating days; one day on and one off. Something about how your body processes food and burns stored fat. If you fast every day, it’s a shock to the system and metabolism slows, food/calories are stored versus burned, and muscle being burned for fuel are all concerns. (You can tell I’m not a doctor by the very technical answer). My schedule is eat dinner finishing before 8pm and then nothing but water until 4pm the next day. Some days I make it to 4pm, others just until 1pm. It’s important to be selective about the food you eat when ending your fast.

@jimmyd103 I was digging the food porn, then a surprise Dickbutt appeared!
Yay, Dickbutt!
I read some article on this and was thinking of giving it a try.
I think it was called the 8/16 intermittent fast in the article.
You are free to eat for 8 hours (earlier in the cycle of your waking day is supposedly better) and fast for 16 hours.
The “fasting” part of the day cycle supposedly allows for any non-caloric beverage:
water
Black coffee
Plain or lemoned tea
any un-sweetened or artificially sweetened beverage with no substantial caloric content.
I heard of one local person who did well with this, with one personal modification:
he allowed veggie juices during the fast. These juices were either homemade or V-8 type, composed of only non-starchy veggies. Salad veggies.
Supposedly, during the “eating” part of the day, it helps to eat non-processed or low-processed foods.
With decent protein, veggies, and fiber.
(Processed foods are sometimes loaded with stuff that stimulates eating, or with excess sat, sugar, and/or fat).
IE try to eat stuff that is closer to how food was been prepared 100 years ago, instead of eating stuff when you don’t understand the ingredients, or when it looks like “factory food”.
Or something like that.
@sohmageek, congrats!
And thanks for telling us about this.
Congrats! So many people start trying to lose weight and then give up.
Someone brought donuts to work today…put one on my desk but didn’t touch it until 11am.

@medz Same at my work, except that I ate two before my pizza and pop was delivered at 12:00
Hey congrats. That is awesome!!
Good job @sohmageek! I definitely understand. This is my ‘get in shape for ski season’ time of the year. I usually put weight back on in the spring and summer and lose it now. People are always amazed that I can drop as much weight as I do in a pretty reasonable period of time. First step: Cut out any sugary drinks and stick to water. Second, eat a small breakfast (often just yogurt), a larger but healthy enough lunch, and a small dinner - usually a salad. Third, get back to using my elliptical machine. I’ll throw some occasional junk in here and there so as not to completely hate the process but the real secret for me is simply watching my caloric intake. When doing this I usually lose about 3-4 lbs a week.
Great job! I started Intermittent Fasting in June and I am down 31 lbs. Which was my goal so I am maintaining now. While losing I tracked/limited my calories in my eating window. I do not track now but I am much more mindful of portion sizes and still try to stay within my window most days.
@tnhillbillygal nice!
Doing IF combined with a low carb lifestyle did it for me. It’s been almost 2 decades since I lost the weight (I lost more weight than I weigh now). The hardest part is keeping a healthy, watchful eye on what I eat and remembering I am worth it.
Here’s to you, sohmageek! You’re worth it, too. Cheers!
I started an IF plan, but I didn’t read the directions right. I’ve been eating 7AM till 11PM. Well, crap. I thought it was the easiest diet ever.
