Week 2ish if having a purple bed
10Background: my wife and I purchased a purple bed, platform, and 2 purple pillows… we were having constant back pain. New bed seems to have fixed it. Oh and all but 1 purple pillow has arrived.
Frame arrived first and we loved the old bed and box spring on the platform. But it was about 3 feet off the ground. Too high to sleep on forever. Bed came 3 days later.
Let’s start off with the bad… my son doesn’t want to stay in his own bed. He says he wants to sleep in the comfy bed…
Issue #2 old head and foot boards don’t fit (sleigh bed that had slats to hold together.)
So far we love the bed however.
I need to figure out to how raise the bed about 3 inches as it’s too low for my liking. But other than that. It seems to be good (they suggested raisers and I ordered some. But I need to dispose
Of the old bed to make room to move the bed off the frame and be able to get the raisers under it. It’s clearly a 2018 project. So far it’s great though. I love the pillow it’s likely going to be the last pillow I buy. (It shouldn’t break down)
Edit can someone with a flask fix the image to this one?

I just bought some purple bedsheets, but I guess that doesn’t quite count.
We are on week…4? 5? I love my Purple bed and I will never give it up.
@uraqtc And never let you down.
@narfcake Never gonna turn around
@therealjrn Since it’s a mattress, maybe more like “never needs to turn around”.
I am craving desserts right now, though.
/giphy and dessert you
I had an Eight Jupiter+ mattress, but it was too firm for my liking. I kept the smart mattress cover though, and am now trying Dromma (it is a little softer). So far I like it! About 3 weeks in on it
@SkyyPunk smart mattress cover?
@sohmageek https://eightsleep.com/products/eight-sleep-tracker - tracks your sleep (breathing rate, heart rate, tosses and turns), heats up both sides of the bed independently (and can be set on a timer), has some smart home integrations (like when you go to bed, it can auto turn off lights if you have smart lights/switches). Pretty neat
I was really torn between Purple and Zinus. Then I was effectively laid off from my job because the workers comp doctors that they sent me to after a student punched me in the head can’t seem to get any treatment for my mTBI approved by said work comp. Buuutttt that is a story for another time. So Zinus went on sale on Amazon, and was more what I could afford with my last paycheck, so I am a week in. It’s comfy and firm but not hard, which is perfect. Only downside is that my last bed was just on the floor. I Have a bad knee-another student kicked me, and I am “too young” for a knee replacement, according to the same work comp peeps, so I get to live with tears and stuff in a knee for however long, and getting up from a 12" mattress on the ground when I am 5’9" is not my idea of a fun morning. Though truth be told, I’m not exactly a morning girl anyway…
@ChompyGator You sound like you might need a good workmans comp lawyer.
@ChompyGator Where do you work that students are violent? And I second @therealjrn about hiring an attorney (check out free legal aid, or see if anyone will do it contingency as they now owe you back wages, medical treatment and if they lose some sort of settlement).
@therealjrn I have a couple, actually. Its not exceedingly helpful. Because I am a teacher, a lot of the effed up stuff is part of my contract, and therefore, I am told, I have no recourse.
@Kidsandliz I am a special education teacher in California. I work with first through third graders with Autism. I really love what I do, but that last class was a doozy! I am really good with kids with behaviors, and we have this thing at my work, I am sure you have it too? The reward for good work is more work? So I tend to have a class full of kids that other teachers couldn’t handle this one or that one? Until I have a collection of ten to twelve of them. I just got punched in the temple while bent in half, and that was likely my fourth concussion, and am not healing the way I have for every other injury I have ever had. Not being able to drive, read, learn new things, passenger in the car for more than 30 minutes without serious car sickness, remember stuff like I used to etc all really sucks, but the worst part is that I can no longer play first person games without getting sick anymore. It really sucks! This is the second COD cycle I haven’t been able to play at all.
@ChompyGator
Workman’s comp is usually controlled by state law. Not sure a private employment contract can pre-empt that.
Worth a specialist lawyer chat?
The lawyer chat would likely be a free one.
@ChompyGator I think you need a safer job!
@f00l Thanks. I have a work comp attorney, and when I felt the way you just stated, I spoke with 3 other CA work comp attorneys, and not just random attorneys found via internet searches, but referred to them by people happy with their performance, and was told that my current attorney was doing the right things. I also have two lawyers who specialize in education code law. I think I am doing all that I can. But am always open to suggestions.
that’s interesting to hear. I’m recently in a transition from sleeping on a worn out tempurpedic bed that I inherited to sleeping on my floor.
I think I like the floor better. Apparently there’s some kind of lumbar thing I need to sort out, though.
@InnocuousFarmer
Genuine tempurpedics wear out?
I did not know.
@f00l it’s the real thing. I imagine after several hundred/thousand nights of cool->warm, maybe a little skin oil, and compression by a hundred pounds or two over some area, any foam will eventually get soft in the middle.
Gosh, I’ve never heard of any of these beds. I am really behind the times I guess. I sleep on a waterbed. Old school. Really old. I like it though.
@mehnyblooms water beds are awesome! I am totally jelly!!
