We went a bit baby crazy on the nursery.
57What happens when you have a friend who's an excellent artist and parents who are total geeks? A really bitchin' nursery mural. That's what! (Before I post pics, I wanted to give a shoutout to @Oakenspirit for his Half Moon Journal Design that inspired this whole thing.)
Pictures!
In an effort to keep this top post from being insane, I'll post more pics in the comments.

Details? Details.
TARDIS
Bat Signal
Princess Luna
Princess Celestia (We are aware she needs wings, they'll be added in a few weeks... we uh... forgot them.)
Quidditch Hoops!
We originally had more planned, but with the texture of the sky, it was getting pretty busy, so Firefly, Star Trek, a few galaxies, and more didn't end up on the wall. Our painter did say that she and we reserve the right to add detail later - especially if the kidlet decides there's something she loves that's missing...
With furniture!
And the light fixture (shut up, it's cute!)
And the nightlights. Okay, NOW I'm done for a while.
@Thumperchick Oh, I love the nightlights! Too cool.
@KDemo The lights, bookshelf and cube storage thing were all IKEA. That was a fun trip.
That is magical!
This is the most magical nursery I have ever seen! You are going to raise an awesome kid! Also, I will blame myself for those forgotten wings. Sorry about that.
@christinewas Thanks! I think you'll appreciate the way the TARDIS was painted - the forced perspective makes it look like it's coming out of the wall. The artist's favorite part was the moon... until she painted the TARDIS.
That is great! I love it!
Fucking spoiling the kid rotten while still in the womb.
But seriously, that's like, totally amazing right there.
Good mommy. Very good mommy.
@Pavlov The world is dark and full of terrors, but at least her room won't be. Her room is now my favorite room in the damned house - I need to step up the rest...
This kid isn't even done cooking yet and already has the coolest room ever!
It's lovely! What a wonderful, magical place.
Fun and fantastical! The baby will be inspired for sure! You can add those oversights you mentioned in a mobile, maybe?
@KDemo A geeky mobile could be a super fun craft project to work on... thanks for the idea!
Flash forward 5 years: "Mommy, I like football."
@ACraigL so does mommy! Let's add some football!
@Thumperchick Just have the artist add this.
You'll be all set. :)
That is amazing, @Thumperchick! I want my room painted like that...
@PurplePawprints the artist does commission work... in upstate NY.
@Thumperchick If we ever manage to move further north like I want I'll have to get the artist's info from you.
Oh just finish it it will be a fun game to spot everything. Love the Stary night tardis though and putting it in the corner like that was brilliant. Now GEEK THAT ROOM OUT!
@Foxborn Gotta leave room for the kidlet to decide what SHE is into! Can't just be all what we like... I'm hoping she has her own personality and interests and stuff. I am, however, regretting not having a badass dragon somewhere...
@Thumperchick Your hoping she has her own personality? She will be the most interesting person you have ever met in your life! And love her more than you can even imagine loving anyone. When they put her in your arms for the first time, it is a feeling you will never forget. Ever.
@Thumperchick The room is magical. And I agree: dragons are needed. But you've still plenty of options left for accessorizing. I like the idea of a dragon mobile.
Now if you could only squeeze in a wee Nac Mac Feegle down by the baseboards somewhere...
What a lucky little one she already is!! The room is wondrous!!
@LaVikinga I've never read or heard of that series of books... I'll have to put it on the "to read to kidlet" list!
@Thumperchick From Terry Pratchett's DiscWorld series. (The Tiffany Aching series for YA, actually.) But you might want to start with Where's My Cow first if you're going to be reading them to the young Princess.
Looks great TC!
Shame they don't make Star Trek themed baby furniture, though I guess she'd outgrow it and you'd end up with a cool crib in a teenager's room...
Now we just need to work on getting Humper to let you reveal her name.
It's magical ! So many details.
I myself have glow in the dark stars on my ceiling, so this is right up my alley. Hey, grown ups like fun stuff too.
Kid's gonna be pretty bummed when the next bedroom is white. Beautiful nursery, probably be the first nursery make architectural digest and wired.
kid's lucky
Why didn't I do something 1/100 as cool as this for my kids? @christinewas that's why!
@thumperchick looks AMAZING
@jimmyd103 Done. I accept responsibility for @thumperchick and @humper being too amazing.
It looks amazing, I sure wish we were homeowners so that we could do this! ...soon!
Did you consider doing anything with the ceiling?
@luvche21 yes, but at this point, we're happy with where it is.
@Thumperchick by that comment do you mean that you're happy that the ceiling is above the room? or that you don't want to do any additional painting? Cause I'm pretty happy with where most ceilings are as long as they are above me when I walk into a room... doesn't mean that I'm happy with what is on the ceiling.
@sohmageek both. I'm happy there is a ceiling, that it is where it is supposed to be and that it's okay plain white.
We have a LOT going on in that room. I tend to favor big statement piece(s) in a simple room.
@Thumperchick I'm surprised you didn't call me a smart ass... ;)
@thumperchick if this whole baby thing doesn't work out... I'd rent the room :P Too bad you couldn't have done a battle damaged version of this:
That'd be awesome in the clouds.... that or show the battle section somewhere else... :)
@sohmageek I was thinking to put a DS9 in there somewhere.. :)
Well that's one way to impact your resell value!
;-)
@medz with the kid on the way, we decided that our 5 year plan changed and we're staying here for another ~5. It was a factor, which seems crazy.
You buy a house to own your home, but then hold back on personalizing it because you might want to sell it in a few years? Weird.
@Thumperchick right, like never sleeping with your girlfriend to keep her mint for the next guy.
@medz nothing some kilz primer can't fix. :)
@medz Bondo? Jbweld? Add some new headers and he'll never notice...
I just quickly scanned the thread titles and read this as "We were bit by a crazy baby in the nursery"
@Starblind not yet...
@Thumperchick Don't worry, it'll happen.
OMG @Thumperchick I know What you HAVE to add!!!!! Fluttershy's Stare! Seriously, oh and when kido has a fear you can make her her staring the fear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reminds me of:
@MrMark Exactly. (We're planning on one and done, so hopefully this won't happen.)
@Thumperchick See, you say this and then you have a baby. It's the most wonderful baby in the world. Bright & shiny. Magical, even. You think to yourselves "She is SO WONDERFUL! We should do this again!"
So, you do.
And your house looks like this on a daily basis.
@LaVikinga that's why you plan ahead - before the birth/pregnancy amnesia kicks in!
@LaVikinga omg...where did you get a photo of my house????
@Thumperchick You know, if I had to do it all over again, I probably would, except I'd try to be a better parent AND find a way to hire a housekeeper to come in every week to ten days to help me when it got rough.
There were days when we had to hand the eldest a plastic snow shovel to clean up her mess. SO MANY LITTLE PIECES OF LITTLE TOYS!!!
RAD! I want quidditch hoops in my kiddo's room!
@ChadP just wait until you see the quidditch/HP themed baby gym my sister is making for this kid. I'll never have to buy her a toy, ever. It's ridiculous.
So @thumperchick, when the time comes you'll totally help me plan mine out too, right? ;)
Like in a few years or something, don't worry.
@hollboll
WHIMSY LEVELS REACHING MAXIMUM!
I adore it! One of the greatest parts of parenthood is having the opportunity to totally geek out your innocent child. I can tell yours is well on their way!
Thanks so much for sharing. :)
@oakenspirit thanks for making such a great journal design!
wow...my kids were lucky when I stuck plastic type decals on their bedroom walls (although I also did stick glow in the dark planets on the ceiling of son's bedroom when he was in elementary school). When we turned off the bedroom lights in son's room, the planets glowed in the dark which was kind of cool IMO.
@AttyVette I love those GITD planets and stars! Definitely cool.
Hey learn to play videogames with you child as they grow up. I did exactly that with my son and it was funny when he was off at college and would call and ask me to get online in a first person shooter game to play against me. We had a lot of fun times playing COD type games and he would even apologize when he "killed" me online. Family bonding right?
@AttyVette I do this with my son. Well, both of them really, but the teenager likes it the most. Mommy has a potty mouth and he gets the giggles when he kills me and I lose it.
my inner child is so jealous.
my inner adult thinks that is the bestest nursery ever. well done :)
That's amazing!
Your unborn child's room outshines mine by far... and I'm a grown adult with credit cards, what's wrong with me?!
Absolutely gorgeous! Only thing I'd change.... MOAR LAPUTA!
