I didn’t think the yachts could get any crazier than last time but boy was I wrong. I’m not really into sailing but the technology and white knuckle near collisions at stupid speeds are keeping me interested.
@CaptAmehrican Now if they’d only go back to doing it in turn of the century before last schooners LOL. Actually doing it where technology is consistent with the kind of sailing that we can relate to is my preference
@CaptAmehrican I can’t even remember the last time I was even aware America’s Cup was even being held.
For a short while in the 80’s , America’s cup had pretty substantial presence in mainstream media. I remember some country beat the US with a controversial winged-hull, and then Dennis Conner (it’s weird I actually remember his name) upped the controversy at the next cup by employing a catamaran. Everyone seemed to be in agreement that the ships were not in the spirit of the race, but not technically against the rules. So I guess you are telling me that they actually addressed those details in the regulations?
My family & I chanced to see some of America’s Cup 34 up-close back in 2013 while on vacation, and it was pretty amazing to see these (catamarans) flying across San Francisco Bay at around 40 knots !
Absolutely, we’ll I find the technology fantastic. I am thrilled they went back to monohulls and coffee grinders instead of catamarans and bikes.

@CaptAmehrican @Kidsandliz 60s - '70s NASCAR style boat racing. They still had factory frames and bodies (mostly)
@CaptAmehrican @Kidsandliz I think the winner gets to choose the venue and the type of craft. I hope they do the next AC in El Toros

They should be doing this in row boats like the one in Waterworld.
O.M.G.
I hadn’t seen this kind of racing since the catamarans

My level of racing on the water
I have terrible admiration for the designers and crews of serious ocean sail racing.
@f00l Terrible? Tehwiboe!
