Waffle
12Today is National Waffle Day in honor of Cornelius Swartwout.
On August 24, 1869 Cornelius Swartwout of Troy, New York received his patent for the waffle iron.
Now Mr. Swartwout did not invent the waffle, or even the first waffle irons. Waffles irons originated in the Netherlands in the 14th century, and were usually two hinged iron plates with long wooden handles held over a hearth fire to bake. Swartwout’s design was an “improvement in Waffle-Irons” which had a new opening device and was to be used on top of the stove.
Just some fyi - The first electric waffle iron was introduced by General Electric in 1911, Eggo Frozen Waffles went on sale in supermarkets in 1953

Wonder if my uncle George of Troy NY was related to Swartwout?
And some disputed history on the waffle cone
I love waffles.
I love real waffles but wife requires paleo gluten free waffles. Those are not waffles, they are waffle shaped objects. But pouring genuine maple syrup on them does help. A little.
Oh, the things we do for love…
let us consult the mehcronomicon:
“admit it. all you fuckers have played the let’s see if i can just eat one square of the waffle and not let any syrup spill out game. do not put barriers between syrup brethren! fuck waffles. hail pancakes! so say we all.”
@carl669
/giphy why not both?

@carl669 I don’t eat syrup…now a little butter or powdered sugar…
@carl669 waffels by trapping the melted butter and syrup which is wonderful
@tinamarie1974 you’d love dutch pancakes then. Those you put powdered sugar on.
@Kidsandliz I do love dutch babies!

Now I’m hungry
Dutch pancakes are really good too as are the German kind that are sliced up into strips.
Uh … Most waffles aren’t v keto.
/giphy just sayin’

@f00l I agree. If they’re keto they’re not really waffles, just waffle-shaped objects.
Made chaffles for her a couple of times and she likes them. Substitute for bread sorta kinda
Blue?
@yakkoTDI

/giphy no
@RiotDemon @yakkoTDI Just a silly aside, but it looks like the subject of that gif says “hard pass” while the text says “hard no”. Am I lipreading wrong?
@Doooood yeah, it looks like he says, No, Hard pass.
