I have never laughed at a meh product write up in all the years I have been here. Probably because I am a cranky old guy. There’s a first time for everything, I guess. Don’t need one of these (even though the small kitchen appliances are all red) But I laughed. Out loud. Not sure what that says about me.
@Frcal You are correct, fellow grumpy person…this is the best product description “written” to date. I was laughing so damn hard…and for minimal effort. See! It doesn’t take much to be funny, just some actual originality…give that copywriter a raise, stat!
I bought one of these the last time it came up. It’s absolutely fantastic and really puts my neighbor’s borrowed cheapo immersion blender to shame.
It purees like nobody’s business and it functions essentially like a mini food processor. It completely obliterated some walnut halves I threw at it and the whisk is a pretty good standin for my hand mixer, though only having one makes it a little less than perfect. And I am not using the top speed(s) on it.
There’s not much it won’t be able to handle for my needs. It won’t be making dough though.
I don’t know that I’d spend a 100 clams on this one because personally I get literally no use from all the other attachments - but a stick blender is, imo, a must-have tool.
Just yesterday I turned a fresh batch of black beans into bean dip.
I use mine constantly.
The whisk is laughable (on mine) - the first time you go to use it and rocket the contents of your vessel or bowl all over your kitchen you’ll want to throw it at the wall.
lol - well, after looking a lot closer at this one…
/showme sturdy indefatigable lake
My current unit is a true “variable speed” so it gives me a true “soft start” - but I think this one will be close, and it’s a WAY more powerful blender.
Anyone wants my Philips unit just say so - $25 plus shipping and it’s yours. None of the accessories have ever been used.
@katbyter I don’t hate it - but I don’t like that the blades are fully “enclosed” because it can make for “suction problems” on flat-bottom vessels. To avoid it is pretty simple - a round-bottom bowl or angling a pan so the blender goes into the “corner” created eliminates the issue. But it’s just a preference. I am someone concerned about losing the “soft start” I can get with the Philips as IMO that’s a “big deal” (and helps prevent unexpected suction issues) - I will simply have to see how the speed control on the Vitamix performs.
And I like the increase in the over-all power - the Philips is actually great at 300Watts, but this one is even bigger. I make HUGE batches of things like black beans (that become bean dip) and humus and since I don’t have kitchen space for (or desire to own) a full-size food processor a powerful stick is the perfect tool.
I will say of the “other tools” the Philips seem to be the most well designed of others that I’ve owned (simple mechanical connections and parts that clean easily). Of note the “blending cup” is enclosed. My first stick (Cuisinart IIRC) had an open cup and it was a nightmare - they should have labeled it as a “food slinger”. It’s probably why I never use the other tools.
The “tool change” design of the Philips is also the best of the 2 I’ve owned so far. Attaches securely and disconnects with a huge button (one-handed use is a plus). The Vitamix looks very similar.
And finally - I just like trying new tools in the kitchen. I’m probably on my 50th garlic press looking for the perfect one (which still eludes me - I use a zester mostly ) 3 different Airfryers (see my latest, hacked, here) and I’m on number 5 or 6 immersion (sous vide) cookers. I really love cooking.
…and I’ve hacked 2 smokers (but I’ve only documented one of them)
My latest is a pellet grill that I’ve encased in ceramic insulation and a welding blanket (still retaining full use of the doors and stock handle) - can smoke for 12+ hours on a single fill of pellets.

@Frcal @suprchunk
…And now the meh overlords are laughing hysterically.
I think there were orders of magnitude many more brilliant texts over the years.
Hitachi makes something similar that I hear is very popular.
@tweezak They are hard to get in the kitchen though.
@yakkoTDI It might work better with the jackhammer attachment. Also more similar to the version I mentioned.

@mediocrebot @zippyus I think this scene was cut from the film for time.
@cfg83 @zippyus I think it was from the less popular sequel - Edward Smoothie-stand

This could be Freddy Krueger’s sidekick.
@mediocrebot @zippyus
Now you’re just showing Johnny Depp’s kitchen counter.
Good presentation of this on QVC with a price of $179.
Any other boomers out there who, when they see “Vitamix”, immediately think of “Vitameatavegamin”?

@Pufferfishy so are you buying this one instead of your Phillips?
@katbyter Yeah - I did.
@Pufferfishy do you not like the Phillips? I may be interested if someone else hasn’t claimed it. But why the trade?

@katbyter @Pufferfishy
You must have the same Cuisinart that I do.
The “green” one is teal, and anyone who was responsible for calling it green should feel bad.
Maybe you have consulted a bot for the jokes.
