@JerseyFrank I have a low deck I'd rather not crawl under. I used my claw to retrieve my wife's ring that had fallen through. Edit: also a cat toy from under the fridge!
@JerseyFrank A small aluminum tablespoon your fiancé let run down the drain into the garbage disposal. I was so happy to have this thing because it worked like a champ.
@haydesigner These are fairly nice. I use both sets of the screwdrivers all the time at work. I'm picking up another set. Absolutely worth 12 bucks. ponderous-blotchy-nymph
@haydesigner Also pretty pleased with my set from a while back. They aren't going to be daily users in a shop setting, but home random jobs they are fantastic. I'm almost considering another set.
@xEBRONx well when they buy (assumingly) large bulk quantities of crap no one wants, they likely have too much of something far too meh to sell out. And Fukus aren't that common.
Though I also wish it wasn't recycled stuff, but I can't really blame them.
@dave who the fuck is "starring" this post?!? I'll bet their login involves @mediocre.com, or similar. I even came here to say that I bought a set, just to help get them out of the sales cycle. Meh.
@deputyderp Of course I didn't remember that. My memory is horrible. I used mehstalker.com to give me the true stats. I also used it to tell me which date it was sold previously.
Not a great gift considering they will frustrate the hell out of anyone actually using them and then they will think of you every time the darn thing sucks.
Does anybody else feel like this was posted early? Like a month early. Father's day is next month. I had to google it just to make sure I didn't drop the ball.
@bakeyoural@Fej the extendable claw is better than you'd think, though it took a few tries to get it to hold the Rubik's Cube. I can tell you from experience the mirror is really useful for annoying spouses
@harrison I do enjoy annoying my spouse. And the cat. You might think that sounds mean, but he's a dick and totally deserves it. Both of them are, come to think of it.
@bakeyoural I hadn't even considered the cat angle, don't have one to annoy or confuse yet. And I hope you and your spouse are able to work things out if things are going poorly!
Guys - As a dude who owns all of these, and as a dude who uses tools for a living - these aren't the best. Seriously, they aren't Kleins, they aren't Crescent, and they aren't Channel. But holy buttnuggets, they are like $0.30 per tool function. As long as you aren't duplicating higher quality stuff, this is a good damn deal.
@ianimal First, I applaud your use of the term "buttnuggets". Secondly, don't forget the ladies. My husband isn't allowed to touch my tools. He loses them or eh hem fails to return them when he sneakily pilfers my tool box. Perhaps I should purchase a large collection of decoy Vermont America tools so he'll leave my good stuff alone. huzzah!
True story about which this reminded me – my dad was having his building's parking lot repaved and one of the crew came up to the crew leader complaining his aching tooth was killing him. Without pause, the leader said "open your mouth and let me see". He immediately grabbed a pair of pliers and yanked the tooth out! The guy went back to work.
FWIW I bought the part of this set that was offered last time, screwdriver was already broken on arrival so I'm not sure if it would be useful. But overall these tools are super cheaply made as you would expect for the price. They work though, so they're not completely useless.
As a Dad, and a previous purchaser of this bundle, I can say honestly, that these tools are shit. The saw is flimsy, the hex keys loose and floppy, and even the retrieval set popped out of the package with such flourish and ceremony that I almost lost an eye.
If your father has ever held any kind of tool in his life, he might just be offended by receiving these. I bought these for myself and I'm offended.
@ekw now you make me feel shitty for giving a similar set sold last...Dec?... to my dad for christmas, but untill they came along, i was totally stumped on what to get for him.
I bought one of the last sets that was offered. I do all of my electrical work with the screwdriver set that came with it! Thankfully, I haven't burned any houses down yet. I also refuse to give tools to my father. He knows better than to try and fix anything mechanical, and giving him these would just encourage bad behavior. He taught me the value of paying somebody to fix the dishwasher, and then paying somebody else to fix the hole in the drywall from trying to fix the dishwasher himself.
My mother told me my dad is a crime fighting robot so that's why he doesn't live with us. Maybe if I bought these I could help repair him and be his sidekick...
I know this is supposed to be a funny writeup, but it is absolutely not. Did my Dad send me to school with nothing but pizza Combos for lunch one time? Absolutely. He also died last winter and I would give anything to eat pizza Combos for lunch again.
I bought these last time, mostly for the precision screwdriver kit, and the bits didn't even fit in the screwdriver- they'd just fall out. Then I was told to contact Vermont American Tools for a replacement, they told me they couldn't help me and that I needed to contact Iron Bridge (the manufacture) who never responded back to me. Poor quality product and neither the company selling them nor the company that made them will even support.
@steigst I had the same problem with the first one I opened. It was missing the spring clip in the handle. Meh had pre-emptively sent me extra sets. The others had the clip and could hold bits and the extension.
Since Meh let me keep the extra sets, I can send you a working handle. If interested, send me your snail mail address to my username at gmail.
Both the handle and the extension will not hold any of the bits. I have several other sets and the bits will fit in both, but I tried them in the extension just in case it only worked with that, but no luck
Not worth 17 bucks, not even worth 12 bucks if you have Meh Prime.
Just go to a bargain tool store (every town has one) and buy some 2/$1.00 screw drivers, a $3.00 hammer, or a GIGANTIC pair of bolt cutters for like 30 bucks.

The writeup is both sad and funny
What sort of things would I retrieve with The Claw?
@JerseyFrank Your dignity.
@JerseyFrank any of the other tools in this set. When they fall out. Because they are cheap and don't have magnets.
@JerseyFrank earbuds from a kid
@TerriblyHuang that one nut that falls into the oil pan. God fucking dammit, and I don't want to drain it, either.
@JerseyFrank I have a low deck I'd rather not crawl under. I used my claw to retrieve my wife's ring that had fallen through. Edit: also a cat toy from under the fridge!
@JerseyFrank Gerbils, from your boyfriend's .............. ( well, not YOU specifically, but for someone so inclined it could prove useful). ;)
@JerseyFrank A small aluminum tablespoon your fiancé let run down the drain into the garbage disposal. I was so happy to have this thing because it worked like a champ.
I have to assume the quality of these are quite low.
@haydesigner i'm impressed with mine, i'd buy some if i didnt already have them
@haydesigner it isn't great, but think of the amount of low-quality tools per dollar!
Okay, okay... You guys convinced me, I'm in for one. Thanks for all the feedback! @wyk3d
@haydesigner why?
@RedOak why what?
@haydesigner: "I have to assume the quality of these are quite low."
Why do you 'have to assume'?
I feel like they recycle stuff too much
@xEBRONx well when they buy (assumingly) large bulk quantities of crap no one wants, they likely have too much of something far too meh to sell out. And Fukus aren't that common.
Though I also wish it wasn't recycled stuff, but I can't really blame them.
@Nexar I have a few ideas for how you could help us not having to repeat things.
@dave is "bring friends to the Meh party" on that list?
@RedOak I've got 10 or so people checking daily since I stumbled in here.
@dave Let me guess your #1 idea: EVERYONE BUY EVERYTHING.
@dave does part of it involve removing the limit 3 on these items?
@dave who the fuck is "starring" this post?!? I'll bet their login involves @mediocre.com, or similar. I even came here to say that I bought a set, just to help get them out of the sales cycle. Meh.
Same price when offered on March 12. https://meh.com/deals/vermont-american-tool-bundle-1
@cengland0 Is that true they sold 10 of them that's hilarious
@munboy
Fuck I'm one of the unlucky 10.
We should start a club.. I call president!
@anonasd @munboy No, they sold 1,097 units on March 12. The site must have a glitch since it only shows 10.
@cengland0 Do you... do you just remember that?
@deputyderp Of course I didn't remember that. My memory is horrible. I used mehstalker.com to give me the true stats. I also used it to tell me which date it was sold previously.
How dare you say that about my father!!
Not a great gift considering they will frustrate the hell out of anyone actually using them and then they will think of you every time the darn thing sucks.
...since when is there an ad on my meh?
@platojello https://meh.com/forum/topics/im-still-not-loving-the-ads https://meh.com/forum/topics/useless-bitching-about-ads
No
Liquidating the goddamn dollar stores again, I see.
This is just sad.
I especially love that red shirt the one guy is wearing. Not sure if it's meta, trolling, or just a small reminder of how awesome Meh.com is.
@bluejester http://shirt.woot.com/offers/not-so-action-packed
@bluejester thanks, i'm a fan of my shirt too, that's why i wear it
@harrison How many mehployees have that shirt? @matthew for sure (Glen videos), @mehcus, and I believe it was @katylava posted herself in one too?
@narfcake Nope, I actually don't have one but the others you mentioned definitely do
@MEHcus Feel free to blame the goat for that error, then!
@narfcake Blaming the goat when the goat actually makes a mistake seems wrong. And dirty. Bad Goat! BAD!
Does anybody else feel like this was posted early? Like a month early. Father's day is next month. I had to google it just to make sure I didn't drop the ball.
@Willijs3 "shipping"
@Willijs3 Considering delivery is 5/29 it's a bit closer haha.
@Willijs3 Early or not, I think this evidences that there are folks at Meh that have some serious issue and hate their fathers.
Very, very meh.
Can we please just have the retrieval kit? I really just want the telescoping magnet :(
@Fej Are you trying to tell me you don't value the 19in extendable pivoting mirror? It's a mirror that is both extendable and pivoting!
@Fej just think of it as a telescoping magnet with a bunch of bonus items!
@bakeyoural @Fej the extendable claw is better than you'd think, though it took a few tries to get it to hold the Rubik's Cube.
I would rather have Vermont Chedder Cheese
@somf69 Mmmm.... I do love cheddar. The really sharp stuff.
@bakeyoural almost certainly sharper than that saw.
@ekw Cottage cheese is likely sharper than that saw.
Guys - As a dude who owns all of these, and as a dude who uses tools for a living - these aren't the best. Seriously, they aren't Kleins, they aren't Crescent, and they aren't Channel. He loses them or eh hem fails to return them when he sneakily pilfers my tool box. Perhaps I should purchase a large collection of decoy Vermont America tools so he'll leave my good stuff alone. huzzah!
@bakeyoural all those who love tools, lady-dudes and man-dudes alike, should have decoy tools. That's a great idea.
You would do better selling them for $9, but even then.
MEH
Bought mainly for the saw and curiosity about the retrieval stuff.
Is @snapster fishing that Rubik's cube out, or carefully placing it?
@PocketBrain that's @MEHcus, though there is moderate potential that he's a @snapster visiting from an alternate universe.
@harrison Crap you're on to me....I must go in to hiding now.
@RedOak ... Not without a good looking nurse with some Nitrous Oxide, nuh! uh!!
@unkabob
@xarous ... Yowza!! (if only I were a toon).
@xarous "Hello Nurse", episode 82, animated by Akom (Korea). I remember seeing the storyboard sketches in Audu Paden's office ...
@narfcake and the nurse character's name is actually "Hello Nurse" I do miss animaniacs....
The best thing about the saw in this kit is the amount of stuff people will f**k up using it because it's a horrible tool.
If you're using it for drywall prepare to ruin a lot of drywall.
@Pufferfishy It's NOT a Jab Saw, no matter how many times Meh tries to tell you that it is.
Fool me... You can't get fooled again.
@Jetlag excepting a few people in Texas. Or was it Tennessee?
FWIW I bought the part of this set that was offered last time, screwdriver was already broken on arrival so I'm not sure if it would be useful. But overall these tools are super cheaply made as you would expect for the price. They work though, so they're not completely useless.
Pretty much the definition of meh.
I don't know how THEY get away with it...
@unkabob yeah, people shouldn't be allowed to use Comic Sans anywhere.
Who ever wrote this has the greatest dad ever, or the most imperfect. Most dads are in between. So lets give them a way better gift . Your turn.
@ACraigL surely he would have to question his parenting skills after raising a child who would give these as a gift.
@ekw now you make me feel shitty for giving a similar set sold last...Dec?... to my dad for christmas, but untill they came along, i was totally stumped on what to get for him.
@earlyre not my intention. you're fine. your Dad should feel bad. ;-)
I draw the line on the dollar store carded items !!!
My mother told me my dad is a crime fighting robot so that's why he doesn't live with us.
Maybe if I bought these I could help repair him and be his sidekick...
It's not Father's Day for another month...
@BillLehecka You're forgetting Sma-- er, SnailPost shipping.
I got myself this back when it was a two pack. It's still in the box.
I know this is supposed to be a funny writeup, but it is absolutely not. Did my Dad send me to school with nothing but pizza Combos for lunch one time? Absolutely. He also died last winter and I would give anything to eat pizza Combos for lunch again.

@steigst You're not just inserting the bits into the handle, are you? It's designed that you insert the extension in, then put the bit in that.
@steigst I had the same problem with the first one I opened. It was missing the spring clip in the handle. Meh had pre-emptively sent me extra sets. The others had the clip and could hold bits and the extension.

Both the handle and the extension will not hold any of the bits. I have several other sets and the bits will fit in both, but I tried them in the extension just in case it only worked with that, but no luck
@steigst Yeah, it's defective, then. There should be a spring wire clip that holds the bit in the extension holder.
Don't need all these complicated 'tools' ......
All you need to fix anything is
@Zebra I don't see zip ties!
@Zebra I have that on a shirt. on there it's "how to fix anything" instead of "engineering flowchart"
Vermont American....Made in China
@willross87 sad
No Georgia Red. . for that alone, meh.
They might be Vermont American brand but, no one from Vermont, America is buying them.
@scotth we're too smart?
@ascii256 I really just wanted the mirror and the claw. berserk-transparent-bat
My order number is perfect to describe my tool collection: hapless-abounding-mass
