If enough ppl want a V DAY mehxchange, I can get my act together. (see what I did there?)
I am in the process of cleaning up for the girlfriend unit to move in later this year. She has stuff and junk, perhaps as much as I do, so I must reduce my junk and stuff (or is it stuff and junk?) (And yes, I realize the set up I just gave someone.)
Two weekends ago, daughter unit two and her boyfriend unit came by for lunch and to get (or call dibs on) stuff for their new apartment (move-in date is Feb 15). So a whole bunch of stuff like the toaster oven (from when her mother and I were together) and spin mop (NIB) and snapware (various sets, mostly NIB) are no longer eligible for exchange. Probably got over $750 worth of stuff by “shopping” in my basement.
This past weekend, while stranded here due to the snowmageddon, the gfu got a red wireless mouse (NIB), macbook pro case (NIB, will hold her Acer laptop and the mouse and charger), a head massager thing and other stuff. (This stuff and junk will come back soon enough, but I will be able to blame her for having the stuff and junk rather than having to deal with it myself.)
There are still 3 NIB sous vide things, a burger maker (also NIB), two sandwich maker things (one NIB the other used twice), a double wide george foreman grill (not N or IB), and 15+ large boxes (think like 12-pack of 750ml wine bottles from wine.woot or casemates) of assorted crap from the 120+ BOCs, Fukos and Fukus I’ve won over the years.
Seriously… I have all this to get rid of and I don’t want stuff or junk back…well, not unless it is cool junk or stuff.
Were it not for the shipping costs, I’d probably just stalk some of you for your shipping addresses and send you boxes of stuff just to get rid of it. Hmmm… I guess I could go beyond level 1 stalking and just use your own money for the shipping…
@baqui63 I mean, i will absolutely give you a reasonable amount of money for a box of random stuff. This is why I am here on this site to begin with! xD
I’d be happy to participate if invited to the party! I have a lot of crap…I mean good stuff, that I’d like to unload on someone. What better time than Valentine’s Day?
I vote to soon , July ish would be better. We just finished the Holiday one and I gave away most of my “nice” exchange Items. I need some time to aquire more junk ie "nice exchange items. "
While I understand it’s too soon for some, i’d totally be down for another exchange! (Minus the VD of course!) I have a box fully packed and ready to go since I became unavailable to send it last exchange and had to move to plan B, sending directly from the “GOOD junkish stuff” warehouse!
Do kids still do a Valentine’s day exchange in elementary school? I did when I was young but when my kid was that age, they had nothing like it.
We built and decorated a “mailbox” out of a cardboard box, and we would exchange cards with our classmates by “delivering” to their mailboxes. You were supposed to exchange with everyone else to avoid hurt feelings.
Looking back at it, it was sort of warped vision of what Valentine’s day actually is, so I can understand if its a dead tradition. However, I still see in the stores where they sell those boxes of cards, so there must be some market for them.
@DrWorm Some schools aren’t allowing it due to Covid. Another one I read about in a Facebook group has to have the cards at school a week early. The cards will then be stored in a box until time to exchange them.
@DrWorm my niece has in the past and she just told me she finished filing out all her cards already. One for every kid.
When I was little we didn’t have to give one to everyone. And I remember not giving kids cards for one silly reason or another. Much nicer how they handle it these days!!
@DrWorm@tinamarie1974 I get the point, but would posit this for consideration - isn’t it a good life skill learning how to deal with disappointment and hurt feelings? Depending on the age, perhaps. It’s a teachable moment, especially for engaged parents.
@DrWorm@ybmuG oh I am ok with that, I think I grew up ok dealing with the dissapointment. Take it a step further, everyone should not get a trophy for showing up. I appreciated every trophy I earned, I think they are all still in a box in the basement as I cannot part with them - worked too hard to get them!!
@DrWorm@tinamarie1974 Kids are smarter than I think “adults” give them credit. They know that getting a trophy is nothing special if everyone gets one…
I think there should be a VD mehrathon, with a bunch of themed IRKs. But in this mehrathon, you ship your “winnings” to another mehtizen. Sort of like Pasta Drop for IRKs. There would probably have to be a mechanism in place to keep someone from getting multiple (or at least too many) IRKs.
@mehcuda67
Yes, yes, YES! I’ve been hoping for a Valentine’s Mehathon and the added twist of passing it on makes it even more memorable and FUN!! Never mind that it’s GREAT for those of us who don’t have that special secret power to snag a IRK “EVERY, SINGLE, TIME” (said extremely slow for added drama) there’s a Mehathon!!

I’m down for another exchange whenever. I’ve been unpacking from when I moved in November and some stuff was still packed from when I moved 4 years prior. I’m finding lots of goodies that I don’t need anymore.
@Star2236 I read somewhere or other that when you move if you haven’t unpacked boxes within 3 weeks then the odds increase dramatically that you won’t, that you might buy duplicates of what is in boxes… Been there done that LOL
@Kidsandliz
I moved back on with my boyfriend and he has basically everything we need. So it’s just going through my just and deciding what if his I want to replace with mine and then to get ride of the rest of mine. I have no will to do it but it needs to be done bc it’s taking up half of the basement and he’s very ocd.
@Kidsandliz@Star2236
There’s a wonderful community on Facebook and every town has their own, it’s called “the buy nothing group”. The “buy nothing” project/movement is ALL about keeping more junk out of the landfills and just recycling in general.
Btw; I still have unpacked boxes from MY big downsizing move 6 years ago! Ugh… I’ll be making our BNG extremely happy once I get those goodies unpacked! Unless I decided to start selling my own mystery boxes! Hmm… that’s a thought. https://buynothingproject.org/about/#main-navigation-responsive
@Kidsandliz@Lynnerizer
I’m the one person on this world that chooses not to do social media but thanks. I make sure everything finds a home bc I hate throwing stuff in the dumpster when someone else could use it.
@Kidsandliz, I’m familiar with a couple other free giving site’s but it’s the whole thing about our community that makes the BNG so special. @Star2236, super cool NOT to be on social media! I have BIG opinions on the whole social media craze, especially with school aged children/young people! Life’s tough enough, too much drama on FB and IG. It’s crazy how many people are overwhelmed with unmanageable feelings brought about by social media! Our school aged youth needs to focus on learning and developing their minds, NOT with how many “likes” or how many “followers” they have! It really hit home to hear my niece talking about this stuff while away at college. It’s really REALLY sad!
Thank goodness there wasn’t social media when I was a kid!
@Lynnerizer@Star2236 Meh is a social media site. And we have some of the same stuff you refer to on here too: likes (rating you on likes too), drama and bullying, nastiness (frontal attacks and more passive aggressive ones)… One of the problems is that people say things/do things on social media that they wouldn’t say (well most wouldn’t say and politics might be an exception) to someone’s face were it to be a face to face conversation.
@Kidsandliz@Lynnerizer
I understand meh is form of social media but it’s different. and I’m a different person than most. Anything that I post I most definitely would say to your face bc many say I have no filter. But there’s many things I draw the line at. I don’t talk politics, I don’t bully and i believe everybody is entitled to their own option opinion no matter what it might be, ect.
There’s always three sides to a story A, B and the TRUTHS. Many people can’t understand that and that is their downfall.
@Lynnerizer@Star2236 You may have no filter but you are polite on here anyway and that you’d only say on here what you’d say to a person’s face is likely rarer than those who can be ruder online than face to face.
Glad someone has the spirit.
I can’t manage this atm, but perhaps some people will find this intriguing.
I am so happy you called it a VD exchange. I have been wishing friends happy VD day for years!!!
/giphy giggle
@tinamarie1974
@rileyper He does not look nervous!
I don’t want anyone to send me a VD…just saying…
@mikibell I mean, no one WANTS it…
I’m not ready for another one yet.
Exchange that is. I don’t want VD at all.
If enough ppl want a V DAY mehxchange, I can get my act together. (see what I did there?)

@baqui63 should I send you $15 and you can send me what you want? Lol
@baqui63 @RiotDemon I think I could use one of those sous vide cookers (unless it’s broken). Or a Keurig…
@baqui63
I’ll be happy to send you money in exchange for a box of joy.
@baqui63 I mean, i will absolutely give you a reasonable amount of money for a box of random stuff. This is why I am here on this site to begin with! xD
@baqui63
Count me in for 1 large mystery box, checks in the mail!

No thanks. She always complains when I stuff her in the FedEx box. I try to prove my love by explaining at least it isn’t a Pitney Bowes box.
@yakkoTDI But think who she might meet when partying in Greenwood, IN.
One more VD comment-No thank you-I will keep my own VD-not ready exchange it and get someone else’s VD.
While I understand it’s too soon for some, i’d totally be down for another exchange! (Minus the VD of course!) I have a box fully packed and ready to go since I became unavailable to send it last exchange and had to move to plan B, sending directly from the “GOOD junkish stuff” warehouse!
