I have one of those up but haven’t deployed it here yet. Because my house is set up on two different levels with a small step between the kitchen and the living room space I can’t do the entire house at one whack… plus the thing is huge compared to my old dumb vac (also from here). It’s currently next door at Mom’s empty house (which we have up for sale). I run it now and then to make sure I suck up any stray leaves etc after people come to visit the house.
@chienfou it gets annoying sometimes because you can’t use it as a regular vacuum, you have to put water in it.
My whole house is tile, but it leaves my rugs damp when I vacuum them since water is required.

If yours is like the one I got here a few months back, you actually CAN run it without mopping if you just take the water receptacle out of the back of it. This allows you to run it strictly as the vacuum. Took me forever to figure that out though. Came with zip for instruction manual!
Remember back when a “Rainbow” vacuum was the Dyson of today? No dust bag/cup/ pouch to clean just a ‘bowl’ of water to dump down the toilet! I remember the salesman putting a couch pillow in a plastic bag and the hose of the vacuum; then sucking the air out of the bag. Then showing us how scrunched the pillow was and opening the canister to show how dirty the water was from all the dust sucked out of the pillow! Such wonders! Now that expensive vacuum is replaced by an affordable ‘Shop Vac’!
@jkawaguchi@Kyeh Best vacuums ever made. No dust, good suction, easy to clean…though the water is disgusting (I used to have one). I wish I still had it.
@jkawaguchi@Kyeh Yes, they still make them but they aren’t as good as the old ones.
They were heavy and awkward, and not easy to store, but I loved mine!
Today many think they are obsolete with the new HEPA systems out there, so I guess it’s just what you prefer.
They are still being made! Just google Rainbow Vacuums. Still pricey. They seem to last forever, if you keep up the maintenance. Never could afford one but used to get a in home “Demo” just before the holiday season! They would demonstrate all the attachments and as kids we took turn trying them out. We would clean the whole house! I think the sales guy knew what was up and went with it. He liked my older sister(wink, wink, nudge, nudge)
I just pressure wash the inside of the house once a month.
@yakkoTDI great answer!
How about never?
I must live in filth, I only mop if there’s something sticky (from a spill, most likely).
I don’t mop. That’s what my wife pays the maid to do.
@hchavers Same.
When ever the grid gets too much I don’t like when. Walking barefoot it then I got to use a vacuum.
@mycya4me
Mop? What’s that?
What is ‘never’?
Before we have company we care about, which is maybe once or twice a year.
I got the Shark Hydrovac off here, so I can vacuum and mop at the same time.

@chienfou this one.
The water canister is on top.

@jkawaguchi I remember someone I knew slightly was selling them. Did you have one? Was it any good?

@jkawaguchi @Tadlem43 Kind of like a carpet cleaner, I guess - the water is gross but it’s satisfying to see it. Are they no longer being made?
