USPS Tracking Numbers basically worthless.
10For those of us who don’t get to travel much and get our kicks by watching our packages visit weird places as they tour the US; can we have our FedEx tracking numbers back please? Those USPS numbers usually just say, “We’re expecting it kinda soonish but we don’t have it yet and we’re not going to tell you when you can expect it to be delivered so you can just suck it!” or something like that.

Oh, I forgot the, “Our shipping partner just got it and sent it somewhere else hopefully somewhere within the continental US but we’re not tellin’.” line.
@Mehrocco_Mole Yep, trying to track our orders, with this new system, totally sucks.
@Ignorant says to try this:
http://tracking.newgistics.com/
It helps a little, but not much.
Oh… and sometimes it tells you it’s been delivered. And it hasn’t.
@lseeber I think that’s the fault of the stupid post office.
@Barney Yep… United Stupid Postal Service!
@Barney Or… the carrier is scanning it as delivered before it has been.
@Barney @lseeber They do this often. Many times a day or two before they actually deliver it.
@lseeber I’ve had the opposite happen where I get it delivered and the system still says, “out for delivery.” Then a couple days later, it updates to delivered.
Hey mediocre staff, how much are you guys saving with this new shipping service? It kind of sucks a whole lot, so we’re sort of hoping if you’re saving enough maybe we’ll get some new VMP socks or something.
One more thing…they lost my IRK!
@ethelthefrog
/giphy more tar and feathers!
Yeah, this has been a source of low grade stress for me for a bit now.
I ordered a box of things from another site, one of those “you put down a deposit, we send you a box, your deposit goes to what you keep, return the rest” kinda deals. The catch is that the return box has to be postmarked within 7 days from delivery, or else they charge you for the whole box’s value.
So of course, I wanted to return some but not all of it. I packed the unworthy items into the box they came in, put the included prepaid return label on top of the original label, sealed it, and dropped it off at a USPS office, as they asked. That was about a month ago.
Only now - like, this week - is the box showing up on FedEx as approaching its destination instead of being stuck in USPS limbo. So far the site hasn’t charged me beyond the deposit - they probably also recognize that it was indeed postmarked but hasn’t arrived - but still, ugh.
@Kawa There really is something to be said for UPS’s services, regardless of cost. USPS isn’t doing themselves any favors with these issues. And these third party companies are just making it an even bigger nightmare.
@Kawa Sounds like their SmartPost Returns service. Depending on the volume of SmartPost packages your post office gets, it will sit there until the next FedEx SmartPost dropoff. USPS doesn’t do any mailing, they just hold the package until SmartPost picks it up with their next dropoff. FYI, you can drop off SmartPost Returns packages at any FedEx store as well. They allow the USPS for convenience, but it does not have to be there.
Fedex > UPS > thieves / drunkards / USPS
@InnocuousFarmer Fedex and UPS merger. The new name will be Fed-UP.
Meanwhile, my comforter I ordered April 19th was just now delivered with multiple tracking points along the way. I guess I’m lucky we have competent mail carriers between Carrollton and Tulsa.
@therealjrn mine will be here tomorrow and it shows Texas, GA, and now Florida. No problems with updates with this one.
As far as I can tell, Meh/MorningSave/Mediorcretee are no longer using SmartPost. So you aren’t going to get FedEx numbers back. The company is Newgistics now and the link was posted above for their tracking.
Stop buying stuff. Problem solved.
@dave Here’s an idea; how about linking the tracking number to http://tracking.newgistics.com/ instead of the USPS. Problem solved!
I’ve had generally good luck, but between ordering more shit lately (from mediocre and from others, yaknow, because COVID) and obsessively tracking, I’ve had a few packages that have shown up but neither FedEx nor the USPS has the same tracking number as meh (oh, they’ve got tracking numbers, just not that correspond to meh’s; and Shop has their own special bullshit of stuff that it starts to track but that apparently never gets anywhere; don’t get me started) and I’m just wondering how I can make the connection so that my OCD doesn’t send me into spasms.
The thing is, I do actually lose track of shit. I count on y’all to ameliorate, not exacerbate, my confusion.
