We just signed a contract
Now comes the fun part - shelling out all the money, getting a mortgage, inspection, closing, packing, moving, and shopping for better furniture and a refrigerator.
Fourth times the charm?
@Barney You’ll see it on the return address for the package I’m sending you. Gotta get rid of my unwanted stuff somehow. Be expecting a ripped-up couch size box.
Hey, if that place doesn’t work out, you can buy my old house! It’s in Maryland, near THE Best Buy from the Serial Podcast, and we’re in the process of finishing up the final touches before putting it on the market. BUY IT SO I DON’T HAVE TO DO ALL THE TEDIOUS SHIT!
@f00l Oh yeah they are, we’re probably going to lose money selling it… but we found a house we absolutely loved and ended up buying it, so out with the old, in with the new(er)
@f00l yup, to the west of Baltimore out in “the county,” as it would be referred to in The Wire. Actually in Woodlawn, which is where the FBI building referenced in The Wire is located.
I’ve got plenty of friends and coworkers who live in the city and love it, I just enjoy having a big yard way too much. That and a garage… And a short commute without traffic.
@smigit2002
The relative I mentioned lived - lemme see - on that hill south of the harbor.
Right by Federal Hill Park. I only saw the outside of the house, years after they left the east coast. They weren’t wild about the Bosh-Wash insularity, but loved Baltimore.
@looseneck the yard is…impartially fenced? Aka, it’s not enclosed, the previous owner just wanted to distinguish what the property lines were. Two full baths, no garage.
Some of the major reasons we moved were to get a fenced in yard and garage, hah.
@looseneck Hopefully not so far up you will be at risk for lightening. When I lived in the Hampton Roads/Norfolk area I was a couple of blocks from the James River but up at a high point. The tree in front of my house was repeatedly hit by lightening. Once a water spout came ashore, lightening hit the house and then it tore up 10 houses directly behind me. My neighbor was on her porch and said the entire house disappeared inside a lightening ball. I was inside at the time and there was a white opaque light outside the windows - cats were terrified of thunderstorms from there on out - they were looking out the window, jumped off the table right before it hit. House shook so hard pictures fell off the wall. The lightening rod melted but not one thing inside the house got fried. Amazing. The water spout then landed in the backyard of the house behind me and tore up 10 houses. I was so lucky. If you are up high enough and there isn’t tall stuff around you get a good lightening rod. By the way ground water run off can still get you. Good though that river flooding won’t.
@Kidsandliz Holy shit! You were very lucky. We won’t be too high, probably feet from where Irene waters hit. There is a TV antenna on top of the house still. I consider those lightning rods. 2 trees smaller than the house in front, none in back.
@looseneck The antenna then needs grounded if you are using it as a lightning rod - although that would just channel lightning into your TV and electrical system in the house. Of course if you are not anywhere near the in the highest area your odds are low. Nice to be that close to the water and in a safe zone though. Should be really nice.
Our house was $72k, but it’s in pretty much a ghetto part of town, loud music, gunshots, shootings, I dare not even go in our back yard at night except to maybe take out trash.
@looseneck We had to find something quickly. You know how vulyures come out when someone passes away and they want their share immediately of small estate.
@looseneck Nope. The three aunts were. They wanted to sell the house asap, so we had to move out without sufficient time to research the area. They were cleaning out the house before the funeral. I miss my God fearing, Christian prayer warrior grandmother. Now, this thread is really going off topic.
@juststephen I’m sorry. Moving quickly sucks. I had to do that a couple of times. Once I was homeless for 2 weeks - living in a hotel with a dog is not fun.
Ok so you need to post your address so we can send you housewarming meh boxes - yeah know left over fuko & meh exchange items, curbside post garage sale stuff… cats, speaker docks and knives… You know, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure… : ) Or we can send it to your old address so you can sell it all in your pre-moving garage sale so you can pay for the move since now you are likely seriously broke LOL
@Kidsandliz With all the shenanigans going on with spoofed user id’s I could never post my new address here. I’ll think about posting the old one though, I need new decorations
Just about all our savings is being put into this house. Meh and all other purchases are on hold. This will be our Christmas present to ourselves.
Thankfully this will save us from paying rent and storage fees. Buying a house is saving money!

That’s great. The header image is a house on fire. Just the omen I need.
/image firemen
@looseneck Firewomen
Firemen and puppies!!! Much, much better
You may live on the right coast, but it would be the wrong place for me. Too much money, I’d be living in a tent.
/image tent
@Barney I am grateful I do not need to live in a tent.
I’m setting up a guest bedroom. You can stay with me when you visit.
@looseneck Aww… Will I get a thin mint on my pillow? How about a box of Girl Scout cookies thin mints?
@Barney I haven’t found a Girl Scout for years. I’ll stalk one next time around. We love our thin mints!
@looseneck @Barney

If you’re in the southern states, Publix grocery stores also has a square fudge mint cookie that I actually like better than a thin mint.
Oh – Congrats on the house. I’ll need the new address so I can stalk you.

@Barney You’ll see it on the return address for the package I’m sending you. Gotta get rid of my unwanted stuff somehow. Be expecting a ripped-up couch size box.
@looseneck Did I tell you that I moved?
@Barney I’ll find you. I have the google-fu.
Congrats!
@f00l
/giphy thank you very much
How about the left coast?
@juststephen What about it? I’ve never been there
@juststephen Median housing price right now in San Diego is around $550K.
@DaveInSoCal I thought I was being punny, apparently I failed

Near Baltimore? A relative lived there for years and did love it, in spite of the probs.

@smigit2002 Does it have a fenced yard and 2 car garage and more than 1 bathroom? If it does, I’m in!
@looseneck the yard is…impartially fenced? Aka, it’s not enclosed, the previous owner just wanted to distinguish what the property lines were. Two full baths, no garage.
Some of the major reasons we moved were to get a fenced in yard and garage, hah.
@smigit2002 No deal then
@looseneck Lame, I’ll never sell my house…
Congrats… Hopefully it is not one of these
although this would be kind of cool
@Kidsandliz All those are actually cool, but terrifying at the same time.
/image terrifying house
No, I’m next to the Raritan River (about 300 yards away) but enough up the hill to not worry about floods.

@Kidsandliz That’s such cheerful news. Perhaps a simple “Congrats” would have been better.

@Kidsandliz The top one is in my neck of the woods… they will rebuild!
@Kidsandliz Lightening vs. lightning
@compunaut Curses auto correct strikes again (and I didn’t proof read) LOL… and my next post it was right - that has to count for something. Right?
Cool. I hope everything works out good for you.
@daveinwarsh how did you get a picture of my house?
@RiotDemon you sneaky Russian occupant, get out of Crimea!
@wishod right away… Just let me get my
/giphy dragon
@daveinwarsh Now that would be down right scary living there. Beautiful views but scary.
Our house was $72k, but it’s in pretty much a ghetto part of town, loud music, gunshots, shootings, I dare not even go in our back yard at night except to maybe take out trash.
@juststephen Why oh why did you buy?
@looseneck We had to find something quickly. You know how vulyures come out when someone passes away and they want their share immediately of small estate.
@juststephen I’m guessing you were the vulture in this case.
@looseneck Nope. The three aunts were. They wanted to sell the house asap, so we had to move out without sufficient time to research the area. They were cleaning out the house before the funeral. @looseneck Yeah your new place could be decorated like the meh headquarters that resulted from the kickstarter gift card to decorate “experiment”. LOL
