Uber, Lyft and SuperShuttle are sucking my will to live š
6Iāve never used any ride services before. I typically just park in long term lot.
But since Iāll be flying out and driving home, a car to the airport would be perfect.
But apparently itās not possible to schedule a ride in advance with Uber. Really? REALLY? This seems like a core feature for a ride service.
Lyft will allow me to schedule my ride, but apparently I have to just sort of sit here hoping a driver accepts the ride request? And that might not happen until the last minute? If at all? So far after an hour nobody wants to commit to taking me to the airport at 4AM.
So the dinosaur SuperShuttle? They will schedule the ride, but they want to pick me up at 3:10 to 3:25AM. Which puts me at the airport 2 hours early. Two hours early at 10AM, super. Two hours early at 3:40AM the morning Iāll be starting a mad dash marathon drive across the country?
So apparently Iāll be driving myself after all.
Iām still stupefied that Uber doesnāt permit ride scheduling.

Iāve used Uber here in Tulsa and they usually come in like 10 minutes topsā¦but never have I tried at 4:00AMā¦from years of working the over-night shift I know that time is the absolute ālowā time. Too early for morning people and too late for night people. Plus most people who die in their sleep do so at around 3AM to 4AM.
Do you still have āregularā cab companies where you live?
@therealjrn Yup, thereās a few cab companies left. Itās a $68 ride versus $25 with Uber or Lyft, plus there are a number of āfirst rideā codes for those two. With the code, Lyft was $18. Before I pay $70 for a cab, Iāll do the airport economy parking and just drive myself. Picking up my truck when I get home will be a small challenge, but if I take Uber or Lyft to pick up the truck, even with the cost of parking itās still much cheaper than a cab.
@therealjrn We have hired a limo service before - though just like a towncar, not a stretch - for a ride to the airport since it was actually cheaper than a cab! It was at a more sane time, though, not sure if those places run super early.
Where do you live and what day of the week are you looking for an airport ride? Iām in LA where Uber & Lyft are basically a 24/7 operation so Iāve never worried too much about this.
@Collin1000
Q: Do you know how to tell a Angeleno?
A: Donāt worry, theyāll tell you.
The above also works with New Yorkers, Vegans, and people who lift.
/I keed, I keed.
@Collin1000 Phoenix. About 5 million people, so itās not exactly like Iām living in the sticks.

We had a similar situation recently where we were also flying out and driving back. It turned out that cab companies would supply an SUV or van for half the price of Lyft or Uber and would send one out any time, day or night
You really should be able to schedule a ride- Uber is a bit more flexible in that regard, as you can schedule within the hour, whereas with Lyft you need to schedule before the hour in which you want to travel.
To actually schedule the ride in Uber, itās the button right next to āConfirm UberXā- a car with a clock next to it.
Itās a similar thing for Lyft- itās the the schedule button right underneath the price.
@dashcloud Yeahā¦ I was thinking we scheduled pickup through Uber while on vacation in Orlando. It may have been within an hour, though.
