I just put one of these into service here this evening, and it works pretty well. Best of all, it doesn’t have a tanker full of perfume in it; what little scent is present is slightly citrus-y.
@akapl2002 Haven’t tried this stuff yet. Bought it in the off chance I might get my hands dirty. Kinda like building a fallout shelter… it may come in handy sometime!
@akapl2002@benj Just offering my opinion…I also bought the last bundle. Have two teenage boys + husband, all work on cars as a hobby and one works at a tire store so he comes home with black hands everyday. They all said this stuff works really really well for the gunk, with or without water, they’ve used it both ways. I finally pulled the trigger on it after reading some comments that said similar results, so I figured I’d try it. Hope that helps!
@ircon96 I haven’t used this brand yet, although I bought some during the last Mehrathon, but for letterpress printing I find that this kind of cleaner is good at getting the heavy-duty greasy stuff off first. And then I follow it up with soap.
@SnDMommy My point was, it’s waterless soap, so why is the water running? The whole idea is that you don’t need to wet your hands first, like with regular soap, so why run the water while you’re scrubbing? If you want to rinse it off after, then turn the water on. I’m just sayin’.
@ircon96@SnDMommy
I do hate it if people leave the water running the whole time when they soap up their hands or brush their teeth. We’re usually in some sort of drought in this state.
@SnDMommy@werehatrack Yes, i would have to rinse it off myself because i can’t stand anything on my hands, but as @Kyeh & I are saying, why waste the water? Turn it on when it’s time to rinse & everybody’s happy!
@SnDMommy@werehatrack@Kyeh Yes, we go in & out of droughts here, too (although this year were having the opposite problem, with incessant rain storms & floods), but our water association also has been having well production problems for years, so we’re on perpetual water restriction now. I guess that makes me extra aware of conserving as much as possible.
You got nuttin’ on me, copper; my hands are clean. From the last batch I bought. At $18 per. The drought must have caused the price of water to go up. Oh, wait…
@stinks - I have both pumice-laced and non-pumice hand cleaners. I much prefer the non-pumice stuff when it works because the gritty ones usually require a water rinse to get it all off my hands. The pumice does help, though, to remove extra-stubborn dirt.
@stinks Pumice tends to accumulate in wastewater pipes, embedded in the soap scum and fat slime. Walnut shell pieces tend to do that less. Or so I’m told. But 60+ years of using all kinds of hand cleaners ranging all the way back to the old-formula Lava and Goop and Go-Jo and Boraxo, I find that for most uses I prefer the stuff that rinses off cleanly and doesn’t have grit at all. Having the grit to aid in breaking loose the heavy grime from car and equipment repairs is worthwhile, though, so a formula that uses ground walnut shells is useful as a happy medium. And this one doesn’t stink.
I purchased this over on sidedeal a few weeks ago and have been incredibly happy with it.
Ignore the waterless claims; you absolutely will want water to rinse off, but only after you have thoroughly rubbed this stuff onto your hands.
The walnut shells really do get all the grime off just like pumice soaps (IMHO even better than the pumice soaps I have tried)
The main thing is when done my hands are SUPER soft, as if I had used some super fancy soap, and they STAY soft all day. I ordered some more of this stuff now to hand out as gifts
It’s an interesting product; I have seen a few different brands that all seem to sell this exact same walnut scrub product under different labels; I wonder who actually manufactures it?
I think I’ve figured out why these ended up with Meh. The pumps installed in the half-gallon jugs very quickly stop pumping. I’m guessing that the ones provided are not actually designed to handle a liquid with grit in it; the check valves appear to be the failure point. Other makers of similar hand cleaners have made this mistake before. The solution in this instance is to just use the big jug as a refill for the small squeeze bottle.

@werehatrack Well if it is enough citrus like your cats will avoid you. Most don’t like citrus smell.
why are we anti-water now?
@awk Either you are on the payroll of Big Water or you are ignorant of the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide.

I don’t have enough hands to need this much product
Scrub a dub dub, three men in a tub.

Buying these only means you’ll have to fix more stuff around the house
I just bought this bundle here three weeks ago for $18. Do I have to send in another $6 now to keep my account in good standing? LOL!
@benj how do you like it?

What’s the point of the 3rd pic? He’s not only standing at a sink, he’s running the water. Why not just use the regular (cheap) soap…?
@ircon96 I haven’t used this brand yet, although I bought some during the last Mehrathon, but for letterpress printing I find that this kind of cleaner is good at getting the heavy-duty greasy stuff off first. And then I follow it up with soap.
@ircon96 Go change your car’s oil or a flat tire and then come tell me how well the cheap soap worked.
@SnDMommy My point was, it’s waterless soap, so why is the water running? The whole idea is that you don’t need to wet your hands first, like with regular soap, so why run the water while you’re scrubbing? If you want to rinse it off after, then turn the water on. I’m just sayin’.
@ircon96 @SnDMommy You get cleaner hands when used with water to rinse it off.

Why is no pumice a good thing? That’s the best part of Lava and Gojo Orange.

@werehatrack Ha yes I should mention post-shade tree mechanic is my one Lava/Gojo with pumice use case.
Walnut shells you say…
@stinks @werehatrack Well, I haven’t seen too many squirrels with dirty hands, so…
I purchased this over on sidedeal a few weeks ago and have been incredibly happy with it.

@werehatrack Every item on @meh should have a “why this item ended up on meh” preface Thanks!
