I bought a hair clipper, it’s so easy to do your own hair (as a guy who likes buzz cuts) and honestly it saves so much money. This one being cordless is really nice because the one I have is corded and it gets to be a pain in the ass. IDK how this brand is but at the cost of one haircut I’d recommend it
Edit: guess this is a beard trimmer, never mind. I’m an idiot
@Collin1000 It’s pretty weird reading those reviews on Amazon. It’s almost like they’re talking about a different product. I bought mine on March 2nd 2016 and it’s still working great.
@Collin1000 I bought one of these trimmers from Meh about 15 months ago, I use twice a week to trim my beard and remove my neck hair, and the wife uses it once a month for her umm “trimming” her area. It works flawlessly and in fact gets a close enough shave for me that I don’t buy razors anymore. (she still uses a razor for her legs) I’m buying a second one now for a backup for it/when the first one goes. Highly recommend.
@cengland0 I bought a peanut for that exact reason, and I have to says it’s not great. I own like 4 other trimmers that I can’t remember the name of because they’re most forgettable. The Peanut I remember, but only because of how bad it is. Maybe I got a defective one or something, or my face hair is the perfect antithesis to the Peanut, but it tugs a lot no matter how clean and lubed it is, it gets hot, and I have to go back over areas in 4 different directions to keep it from missing spots. I know I’m not doing anything too terrible because the other generic crappy trimmers I have work fairly well with my maintenance routine. So Iunno, I hate when my experience doesn’t match the majority of reviewers… it makes me feel like I’m in an alternate dimension where things that don’t suck for other people suck for me :|
@shawn , wanna chime in with a review? Between haircuts I like to trim my sides and clean my neck hairline. Instead of a monthly trip to the barber I’m tripping ~7 weeks.
@gustador Like @skemmehs has already done, I’m thinking about buying another one as a backup in case something happens to my first one.
The best part about it is the cordless feature. I’ve had a couple other corded clippers and once you use this you’ll wonder why they ever made corded clippers to begin with. It’s slightly narrower than my previous corded clippers but I find that ends up being a feature when trimming around ears. It’s also significantly lighter weight than my previous corded clippers.
I also enjoy that the shortest guard is 1.8mm instead of 3mm. Works better on my mostly bald head.
My only complaint: one time, while pulling the guard off I managed to pull off the entire metal clipper mechanism. It was easy enough to snap back on but at first I thought I had ruined them. Gave me a chance to clean up some hair shavings that were buried in there.
I got one the last time it was offered and it’s still going strong after 2 years. No more 'scaping accidents. The little oil bottle started leaking though.
For the price of one haircut, I have both given myself and my son monthly haircuts for the last year. (…and no, he does not have a buzz cut, there’s a little scissor necessary on the top) Bought two last time if/when this one decides to go on strike.
Own it. Like it. Wish longest attachment was longer. Wish attachments went on and off more easily. Just a little quieter and less scary to my 5yo. Cuts close.
Appreciate the first-hand recommendation for one and for two the assertion of a decent box. I bought immersion blenders here for gifting purposes but the packaging was so beat up it was, like, no way.
Far be it from me to want to cost Meh. their sales (and they’ll probably sell out of these anyway), but I’ve went through a lot of various trimmers and shavers over the years, and have found the two products that when combined, ensure that you won’t need anything else, aside from a good foil shaver, if you use those to shave:
Remington HKVAC2000A Vacuum Haircut Kit
This thing does everything any other trimmer does, except it has a vacuum, and because it feeds directly from the outlet, it’s actually strong. Not much else to say here.
Philips Norelco OneBlade
This will do anything and everything short of shaving. It will give you a very, very close 5 o’clock, and you can safely and effectively use it for all bodyscaping tasks. The blades are designed in such a way that they won’t snag or cut unless you use the thing like a maniac or have raisin-like skin, because they’re fully enclosed from all sides, but the guards are also so small and thin, that the cutting is extremely close. The blades are a ripoff, and the battery doesn’t appear to be lithium (kind of feels like they did this intentionally to have some way of “upgrading” the product in future revisions), but it’s still an exceptional product.
@Lotsofgoats, @Mike808, Groupon has a beard trimming apron for $8.99 and for the manscaping question they have a plethora of things for that including one for shaving a mans back. Not implying you have a hairy back but some do. Also, if you want the accompanying Trym nose/ear/eyebrow trimmer it comes with a LED light and it is only $9.99. I do believe Meh price is better than the TrymII on the other site. Yes, I know, I’ve mentioned Groupon before but most of the reviews seem more genuine than some other sites and a lot of times their prices are better. For free shipping (if not purchasing from an affiliate store which is sometimes free and sometimes not (always read the fine print)) you have to reach a certain amount. For some reason I don’t ever seem to not find enough to reach that point. Guess I’m a bit of a Groupon whore.
@wickhameh you seem to have forgotten step 3A - clean all the hair out of the shower, or enjoy showering while standing in water slick with shaving cream and hair bits up to your ankles. /shudder
@jerk_nugget I guess it depends on the shower you have. Most of it falls near the drain and can wash right down. I use the electric in the shower area to avoid sink mess. It’s a lot easier to clean up by aiming the shower head than rinsing the sink.
@wickhameh totally. to each their own for sure! we have an old clawfoot tub with a tiny drain & built in very fine sieve. my partner shaves his head. the clipped hair just makes a mat and covers the drain pretty quickly and doesn’t wash down. this is good and bad i guess - no hair clogging the pipes but as the water level rises and hair floats around, it then gets stuck all over the bottom of the shower curtain & stays there once you pull the hair from the drain and the water drains. we have a showerhead on a hose so you’d think it’d be easy to spray everything down but those little tiny hairs just don’t budge. so the sink is preferable for me - way easier to clean. (and i’ve learned to take my shower first…heh.)
i’m a woman and even i shave at the sink. i just fill it with water to rinse my razor in, and when i’m finished i let the water drain and the hair sticks to the side of the sink. wipe out with a tissue and done.
I bought 3 last time meh had these. i put a different guard on each so I never had to swap them out. my brother liked them so much I gave him all three. I’ve been waiting for this day ever since. in for three more.
@wew Biggest mistake people make (and I’m guessing why there’s the bad reviews) is letting these rechargeable devices stay plugged in all the time. My trimmer is 15 months old and still holds a charge that lasts me over a month of good use. I only plug it in maybe once a month or longer and just keep it plugged in for half a day and then unplug it.
Keeping it plugged in 24/7 absolutely kills the battery charging cycle on most devices.
My old trimmer is on its last leg. The battery won’t hold a charge if it isn’t plugged in; it self-discharges so fast that the charger can’t bring it up if unplugged for a few days. I had to pop it open and connect to a DC converter to revive it. Part of me wants to bite here and part of me wants to just replace the battery to keep the rest of it out of the landfill.
@PocketBrain I used to buy rechargeable ones until I realized this is a standard problem with all of them. Not just that the battery dies eventually because I understand that should happen. But what is unacceptable is that the battery doesn’t seem to be consumer replaceable.
Batteries are usually soldered in but the solder doesn’t stick to replacement batteries unless you buy special ones with crimped on tabs. If they are not unique sizes that you cannot buy anywhere, you create your own pack and it’s slightly too large to squeeze in the device.
I threw so many away that I now use a plug-in model and will not go back to a battery one ever again. The battery ones seem weaker anyway.
@cengland0 Not consumer replaceable, but I’m an Engineer. Also, I have a spare AA-size rechargeable with tabs. Come to think of it, why haven’t I already fixed the old one?
Bought one last time. First beard trimmer because I’d just grown a beard for pretty much the first time in my life just a week or two prior (at my wife’s request…)
Fortuitous timing I suppose.
Pretty much agree with the write up. It works well but you’ve gotta clean/lube it.
And yeah, if I felt like this was going to die soon, I’d buy again (but I don’t.)
I have one of these for over 1-1/2 years now. I keep it plugged in the charger 24/7. So far the battery is lasting forever. Well, I mean it lasts for the duration of time I have ever needed it to last. Only problem: the cam shaft that spins to oscillate the blades does not spin at a high enough rpm so the blades seem a little slow. It take a long time to hack through the bearded forest. It reminds me of mowing my yard with the electric mower I have. I kind of have to go over it time and time again to get it all mowed evenly.
I bought this on a previous Meh sale and was less than impressed. I used it a few times and replaced it with an equally cheap, but much better one I found at Walmart
I bought this on amazon on a lightning deal a couple years ago. It was missing the attachment that i needed. Called the company and eventually i got one sent to me. Used it as a beard trimmer and it did a terrible job for what I needed. The cuts could be uneven.
I ended up buying a norelco a few months later and I’ve been very happy with it.
I can’t recommend this product, as a beard trimmer anyway.
I must say, I purchased one the last time Meh unloaded them and it has been the one bright spot in my Meh buying career. I use it every couple days and it’s a champ. I’ve taken it on vacation for a couple weeks and never lost a charge. Hell, for 14 bucks it’s a steal.
Bought one last time they had it. The plastic trimmer are flimsy and falls off quite frequently. Once they fell off and I didn’t catch it and shaved off half my goatee. Pass on this.
@Felton10 I had the same issue with mine. I sent a message to their customer service department and they sent out a replacement no problem. Their customer support is incredible!
@somf69 mine had a few nicks too, fortunately they didn’t make it through the film so it looked fine after I pulled it off. The back and the left side still have a few nicks though.
UPDATE: Sent an email to Trym’s support last week and mentioned the loose guard. They offered to send a replacement immediately which arrived today. These guys are awesome.
@woodyzim Neither I nor my wife could figure out how to make the blades move with the guides attached. They sent me an entire replacement trimmer and guides, and those don’t work, either. I now have three Trym II trimmers that are completely useless.
@Zimzerveran OK, I have a fix! It takes some time & patience, but it did work for me…
I used a piece of 3/4" wide emery cloth, but a thin piece of heavy grit sandpaper would work also. I folded the emery cloth over on itself (in order to increase it’s stiffness) &, while holding the blade guide in my left hand (upside down), using my right hand, I worked the emery cloth back and forth & removed some of the plastic material from the recess in the plastic guard (where the front of the blade contacts the guard). This relieved the pressure the plastic guard was putting on the blades and my trimmer now works!
Like I said, it did take some time, & you will have to do it to each guide you want to use, but it will solve your problem.
I just opened mine up and it’s really quite beautiful for a trimmer. I wish I would have bought a few more, although I’m not sure what I would have done with them-given them to vagrants or something I guess. (Hey, I was quite the hit the year I bought nose trimmers for all the guys at Christmas.)
Anyway, as reported, it comes pre-charged, and I sorta went a bit crazy with it. I managed to cut both my ears and I have a big birthday party I have to be at in 30 minutes. Who would have thought ears could bleed so much! (No, I’m not enclosing any photos, you ear freaks.)
Does anyone need worry? No. It’s just I’m a huge idiot.
But it’s really a nice looking trimmer. Thanks, meh!
Arrived undamaged, looked nice!
Arrived partially charged, so decided to try it out. Worked great… until I installed a blade guard… As soon as I snapped on the first guard, the blades stopped. So I tried another, & another, & another. The trimmer stopped working as soon as any of the four guards were installed.
I contacted the manufacturer via their website & they sent me four new guards. Out of the four new guards, the trimmer will only work with one of them installed, the shortest one, which is worthless to me.
I contacted the manufacturer again & now they want the trimmer back. Returning it for replacement wouldn’t be that big of a deal, except for the fact that my area UPS store closes at 5:PM, which means I’d have to take off work early in order to ship it, which means I loose money. And I’d have to pay for shipping, which means I loose more money. AND I’d still have to wait for a replacement trimmer, and it’s already been 16 days since I’ve been waiting to trim my beard.
So… this thing’s going in the trash.
I think its a good deal and good product. I have one which has a cord in it and I find this Clipper Kit a very convenient one. Gotta try this one soon.
My original trimmer arrived in perfect condition & ran fine, until I snapped on a blade guard. No matter which guard I tried, as soon as it was on, the blades would stop moving. I bypassed MEH & went straight to the manufacturer for help. The manufacturer gave me a new set of guards, but I still had the same issue, so I posted my issue here.
MEH read about my problem & sent me a new trimmer. My new trimmer works perfectly! MEH took care of me when the original manufacturer wouldn’t, thanks MEH!
Disappointed with this clipper! First time I cleaned it the retaining clip for the cutter head broke and now it’s unusable. Really cheesy retraining clip - thin plastic - along with vague directions on disassembly. It did work well for about 2 weeks.
Got one of these about 3-4 years ago from meh. After years of using it, the battery finally gave out. Got another one, and the battery gave out within weeks of use. Contacted Meh, they reimbursed me with Mediocre credit. Got another one a month later, and the battery was complete crap right away.
My theory: They’ve had the exact same ones for 5 years!
@wickhameh
very possible, though you would think they would have dumped them into some IRKs by now.
I still have mine and it is working fine. I only charge it every few months as I only use it to trim my beard about once a week. I had a blade guard break (the only one I liked) so I ended up buying another identical model from Amazon. It is exactly the same except the base orientation is 180 degrees off so they are not interchangeable in the charger base. I alternate them every few charges so they will keep up the batteries since they are NiCad…

Toooooooo many bad reviews. I’ll still to my USA-made Wahl.
@Collin1000 I like the peanut. I asked a couple people in the hair cutting business what they prefer and that was recommended. I love it.

@westownsend maybe you are from the wrong end of town…
@westownsend Curious, did you get the rechargeable peanut or the one that plugs in? I have the plug-in model.
@cengland0 The plug in also :<
Best trimmer I have used. Better than the three “name brand” trimmers we own.
You, too, could look like this
I have one- it makes really shitty margaritas.

@skemmehs am become Meh, destroyer of worlds.
I bought one last time Meh had them. The Bluetooth is awful and the speaker just makes this whirring sound.
@shawn , wanna chime in with a review? Between haircuts I like to trim my sides and clean my neck hairline. Instead of a monthly trip to the barber I’m tripping ~7 weeks.
Should I buy one specifically for “down under”?
@gustador i just use my husbands lol (well not for my face)
@gustador Like @skemmehs has already done, I’m thinking about buying another one as a backup in case something happens to my first one.

Current one is a TMNT model - Shredder.

Got mine today…with a couple of awesome scratches on the front, even with the protective film on it…
@somf69 mine had a few nicks too, fortunately they didn’t make it through the film so it looked fine after I pulled it off. The back and the left side still have a few nicks though.
Condition on this is listed as “new” but the tymmer I received was beat down! Looks like it was a used customer return or something?
Used once so far great shave no painful nicks.
Mine had a few dings on it, but I don’t really care. Cut my hair with it today and it works awesome. The guard is a little loose, but still works!
UPDATE: Sent an email to Trym’s support last week and mentioned the loose guard. They offered to send a replacement immediately which arrived today. These guys are awesome.
With any one of the guides on, the trimmer blades will not move!
@Zimzerveran
Mine did the exact same thing. They sent me new guides, but mine would only work with the shortest one. Did you figure out how to fix it?
Hey @woodyzim - send us a message - meh.com/support about this.
@Thumperchick MEH heard about my problem & sent me a new replacement trimmer. The new one works perfectly. Way to go MEH! Thanks!
I think its a good deal and good product. I have one which has a cord in it and I find this Clipper Kit a very convenient one. Gotta try this one soon.
Love the product. Works really well, and very reasonably priced!
Worked well but died early. About 3-4 months
Disappointed with this clipper! First time I cleaned it the retaining clip for the cutter head broke and now it’s unusable. Really cheesy retraining clip - thin plastic - along with vague directions on disassembly. It did work well for about 2 weeks.
Still works! I love it.
@wickhameh
very possible, though you would think they would have dumped them into some IRKs by now.
How do I reattach the blade after removing to clean under it?
