Here’s a Fun Fact for You
Using the power of these TrackR Pixels, I’ve managed to hunt down the military man who stole my wife and broke my heart. I type this to you from my car. I am outside of his home. Watching. Waiting. Under the cover of darkness, I shall approach him. God forgive me for what I must do. If you do not hear from me, I wish you nothing but the best. Although, you should be able to track me down using your fantastic TrackR Pixel devices.
Of the last 4, I have used 2. Replaced the batteries using the duct tape method, no need to squeeze at all to replace the CR2016 battery in each. Don’t care about history, I usually just leave my wallet and keys in strange locations in the house, so these work well for me.
In for another set.
Coincidentally I used my TrackR Pixel from a previous Meh offering for the first time yesterday. I stuck one to the back of my garage door opener, and that sucker was underneath the passenger seat.
I spent a large portion of today trying to open it to replace the low battery.
I was unsuccessful. Google had suggestions, none of which worked.
But I got four of them. And I did get one of those open.
So one of the others is now my garage door opener TrackR.
(BTW, the current gen of Tile now also has replaceable batteries, 2032s vs 2016s. And I can even open those!)
@ergomeh@Jonas4321@jrs1980 LOL…it is good for all kinds of things in a pinch. It has antibiotic properties, you can use it for toothpaste, to oil hinges and such, to revive wood items, and lots more
@dvermilion@ergomeh@Jonas4321 so I have packing tape in my car for…reasons? And I was able to open the TrackR with that.
But I still bought duct tape today, just because it bothered y’all so. I’ve “borrowed” an adequate amount of paper clips from my old job, I do own WD-40 (it doesn’t expire, right?), and I didn’t see the coconut oil rec before I went to the store.
@dvermilion@ergomeh@Jonas4321@jrs1980 Even good old clear scotch tape works fine to open pixels with. Just don’t use the frosted kind, those are too flimsy.
I’ve implanted these in my toddlers shoes. It’s not perfect and won’t replace being a good parent and keeping an eye on your kid but it’s a little extra layer of piece of mind. Just make sure to replace the batteries they come with; two of mine were DOA and the rest only lasted a week or two before the batteries were showing up as ‘need replaced’ in the app.
The 4 single packs I bought a month or so back for a buck each still sit neatly stacked, next to my mouse, unopened, laying a guilt trip me for ignoring them.
Even after the faux frustration that they took far, far longer to arrive vs the normal meh hoard closet “treasure.”
@RiotDemon I use mine to keep track and remind me I forgot the house without my wallet but I think another use for one since the remotes keep ending up all over the house
These are pretty neat actually, but just factor in an extra $2 each to the cost and two extra weeks for shipping, because they will arrive at your house with the batteries mostly or totally dead.
I put one on my keys, one on my dog’s collar, and hid one on each of two bicycles. Haven’t had to need them yet but they work well in testing.
Exactly - and the crowd-sourced network of fellow users (let’s be honest, primarily made up of Mehtizens for this model) is far too limited for that part of the “locate it” environment to be effective. Go Tile for that potential.
Are you like me and absentminded forgetting your wallet/purse as you walk out the door? Fear not TrackR to the RESCUE!!
In all seriousness though I only reason I bought these was for the “You forgot me” feature…
As I’m always forgetting to grab my wallet before leaving my room in the morning then I get busy and go to take my girls to school and run earbuds forgetting my wallet and so soon as I leave the house my phone starts beeping as it’s lost Bluetooth connection hence letting me know I forgot my wallet again
So I have one in my wallet and one on my keys but only so I can call them when my dog decides he wants to play hide and seek with em again the other three are still in the box on the shelf
The app is great for “pinging” so you can find them when in your house. It is terrible for basically all other uses - if you have the alerts on for remote locating, it basically bothers you constantly. Help is non-existent, so I can only assume they gave up and closed shop (and sold whole inventory to meh!) So they are worth just about what you paid - I do not regret my purchase
(Side note: OK, you can see the last place they were located usually… so when you leave something behind, you get that confirmation.)
Just do not get these I got them last time and all of them did not work because the batteries are dead and when you try to get the free battery from the website it just do not work at all, total waste of money
I think I bought an 8-pack last time. Of the 6 I’ve opened so far, 2 of them had bad batteries. #1 has been working fine for a couple months or so. #2’s battery died after only a few weeks. #3 and #4 seem to be fine so far, but I gave those to my mom, and I’m not sure she’ll know if the batteries die. I opened #5 to replace #2, and its battery was dead right out of the package. #6 seems to be ok, but it’s only been about a week since I activated it.
But even if all them came with dead batteries, it’s still a good deal. The 5-pack from Meh costs as much as the regular price for a single Trackr, and you can get a 15-pack of replacement batteries on Amazon for $6.
To the person who said the remote locating alerts bug you all the time: I don’t think it’s meant to be left on all the time. Just turn it on if your item gets lost, so it will let you know if it gets located.
Got the 4 last time. Had not figured a use. I think I might try sticking one on my roomba that gets lost under furniture or other rooms sometimes. Can ping instead of searching all over. Not much of a use but better than anything I have come up with yet.
I bought these last time, and they work great, at least for finding things, not necessarily the tracking aspect; much better than the Tiles I bought previously and returned.
Because they also work in reverse, you can use them to find your phone. Or, even better, you can install the app on someone else’s phone, make the associated sound a fart clip, and turn your spouse/friend/parent/child’s phone into a fart machine. If done properly, they may never figure out what’s going on. It’s awesome. They should make the description, “Back on track: Fart Machine!”
@MuddyG Awesome! You gave me some ideas for dreaming up IFTTT routines in the same vein. Geofencing anyone? Hide a tracker where the victim can’t find it?
I scooped up 2 packs of these, WTH. Compared to AMZ’s pricing & the sales tax my state getchas, Meh’s a good deal pricewise. As to these widgets? Let’s just say I’ll test every single one of them before I glom onto stuff & just buy a mass qty of CR2016s. Have on hand my duct, masking, frog, Scotch AND gaffer’s tapes. I have tools I use to open up watches to replace the batteries, but I don’t think it a hot idea for thin plastic discs. Swiss Army Knife?
(bawling-earthy-temper) I’m in for two more orders, I’ve only opened up two of the four that I got last time and they seem to work fine and the batteries On both of them were not dead so I’m two for two so far…
Doesn’t work, not like they are hyped. It’s only a good as your local Bluetooth range. I bought under the original Kickstarter. Wanted these to work - very disappointed and not surprised to see they sell for less than the price of the batteries you’d need to buy to keep them working. Try PING if true tracking is what you need and they too fall short - and require a subscription fee each.
in reading some of the other comments about these things, while i see the point, i disagree. the dead battery issue wasnt so much the problem as the life span. at this point, i received my 4 pack mid sept, and put one to use soon there after. it’s warning me of dead battery last night, 10/14. so less than a month of use, though i never actually had to track my keys yet. oddly, the 1st gen i have lasted longer w/ it’s original battery but replacements are about the same. so, imho, unless you want to replace batteries that often, as neat as this idea is, maybe just learning a skill like remembering your keys may be a better choice. at one point, i had attached one to my father’s remote as he was always dropping it and the nurses were always kicking things under the bed or dresser etc.(a specifically useful aspect of this device not exactly akin to misplacing things) very helpful to use the locate on that, until the replacement batt died…
will see about the ‘free’ replacements and maybe post further.
First of all, i paid $20 for 8 of these things, and now you’re selling 5 of them for $6? I want a refund.
Anyway, every one I’ve used so far has had either a DOA battery, or it died within a month. I have no idea what the actual battery usage is, but I’m going to assume i just got crappy batteries.
I tried to order replacement batteries through the app, but through a series of convoluted steps, I ended up with 2 batteries in my cart. There’s no way to remove anything from your cart. It won’t let you check out with 2 batteries in the cart. So I’m out of luck.
I emailed customer service, and surprisingly, they responded. Even more surprising, they offered to send me replacements… FREE. Great! So I waited… And waited… And sent follow up emails, that were sometimes eventually responded to, sometimes not. Last time i heard from them was August 7. I figured, I’ll never hear from these guys again. Right?
WRONG! Yesterday, I receive 2 packages from Trackr, containing 16 new batteries! If that doesn’t renew your faith in humanity, well then i don’t know what will.
These Trackers are a scam! It is next to impossible to open and one of them actually fell apart when I removed them from the packaging. They charged $5.00 shipping and handling so there not even worth the return postage. If you are expecting a good deal forget it. This is like dealing from the bottom of the deck.
This is all a conspiracy to sell batteries. This is the second time I’ve bought Trackrs from here and both time they had low battery warnings right out of the package.
Installed and worked right away. Looks great. Batteries come with it are low and need replaced. They’ll give you a free battery but you have to pay for shipping. CR2016 is that batter which I can get on Ebay. Hard to open battery compartment…but I’ll get it figured. Price is good.
@kab take 2 rubber gloves. Put them on your hands. Place the trackr on your palm sort of close to your thumb. Place your other hand over it. Press gently but firmly if that makes sense then twist. Viola. Your tracker will either open perfectly or crack into pieces depending on how strong you are.
numb-sneaky-swashbuckler was a terrible purchase. Almost every trackR had dead batteries on arrival. Inconvenient, but no problem they offer free battery replacement right? Ehhhh sorta. They offer “free” battery replacement but charge more for shipping than the batteries cost at a drug store.
So hey, I need to replace 7 or 8 batteries so if I get a “free” replacement for all of them, then pay shipping - I can feel good about that. WRONG. Now I’ve got 10 batteries in my cart, and it just gives me an error saying that order must be exactly 1 battery. And there’s no way for me to empty my cart (the delete button doesn’t work) so now I couldn’t pay for a battery even if I wanted to. Every time I click the “replace battery” button when it alerts me I have low battery, the cart gets bigger. Cool.
So I suck it up, go to the drug store, buy some batteries. I put a Trackr in my wallet and on my keys to try things out. I drive to the office and carpool with my team for a work trip, leave my wallet in the car, get no alerts. Well shoot. Now I’ve got 2 days with no wallet. Thought I had an app for that… that worked swell.
Once I’m back at home, NOW I’m getting lost wallet alerts… while I’m walking around the house with my wallet in my pocket, and my wifi set as a safezone to NOT have alerts.
I contacted customer support about the battery situation, but they are not replying to me. So I’m uninstalling the app to silence the lost wallet alerts. I know where my wallet is.

Meh. More expensive
1st response?
@Mandamm No, that would be a pregnancy testing kit. Which might be an awkward use for these.
Meh, what happened to my daily count of Meh’s?
Just in case you’re wondering - these things are worthless**
**based on my experience - YMMV
Probably in for another 6 week wait - maybe I should try out the first four I got before buying these?
FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY
or they’re a bitch to change
the batteries on.
Of the last 4, I have used 2. Replaced the batteries using the duct tape method, no need to squeeze at all to replace the CR2016 battery in each. Don’t care about history, I usually just leave my wallet and keys in strange locations in the house, so these work well for me.

@jrs1980 Use the two strips of duct tape, no pressure, easy peasy.
@Jonas4321 Yeah, I was hoping I wouldn’t have to buy duct tape.
@Jonas4321 @jrs1980 Wait, What? You don’t own duct tape? How? Really, how can that be? Buy duct tape and put a TrackR on it.
@ergomeh @Jonas4321 I rent, lol. Anything that isn’t in staying in place gets reported to maintenance.
I will buy duct tape tomorrow, along with a spare 2016 battery.
Real talk, though, I shouldn’t have to buy duct tape to get the darn thing open.
@ergomeh @Jonas4321 @jrs1980 I agree with you BUT you SHOULD have duct tape so at least this will remedy that travesty.
@Jonas4321 @jrs1980 @mehbee And paperclips. Handy for all sort of purposes. I’ve even used them (very occasionally) to hold pieces of paper together.
@ergomeh @Jonas4321 @jrs1980 WD40 and Coconut oil have lots of uses too, just in case you want to add them to your list.
/giphy useful household items
@Jonas4321 @jrs1980 @mehbee Has anyone added TrackR to their list? (I’m still wondering about coconut oil, but I’m not sure I want to go there…).
@ergomeh @Jonas4321 @jrs1980 LOL…it is good for all kinds of things in a pinch. It has antibiotic properties, you can use it for toothpaste, to oil hinges and such, to revive wood items, and lots more
@ergomeh @Jonas4321 @jrs1980 Duct tape? FEH. Get gaffer’s tape–it’s duct tape’s smarter, better-looking friend.
@dvermilion @ergomeh @Jonas4321 so I have packing tape in my car for…reasons? And I was able to open the TrackR with that.
But I still bought duct tape today, just because it bothered y’all so. I’ve “borrowed” an adequate amount of paper clips from my old job, I do own WD-40 (it doesn’t expire, right?), and I didn’t see the coconut oil rec before I went to the store.

I may be forgetful, but I remember when Meh had these last time. Now, where did I put my dignity again?

With the ratings these have they are definitely not my favorite doodad for keeping track of shit, so profound meh to them.
Ahhh, funny/sad writeup. You’ve described pretty much every self improvement attempt in my life.
Out of the four I bought last time, only one is in use. Keeping track of my Roku remote that loves to disappear under furniture.

@Brandon313 Yikes, no wonder he’s worried
@Brandon313
@Brandon313 that was horrible. I was sitting there saying how cute he was and then bam!
Do these have batteries that aren’t DOA,
or will I need more of the “free” $1.99 batteries?
@2many2no most of my last order arrived with dead batteries.
@jayman007 These are cheaper than the free ones

@entventure @jayman007 That’s cool, I like Dollar Tree.

@windfish113
You do realize these aren’t connected to satellite so once they’re out of Bluetooth range they can’t be tracked right?
So if your pouch or bikes leave your Bluetooth range they can’t be tracked
They’ll only show last transmitted location (I.e your home)
@ConcealedPsycho @windfish113
Exactly - and the crowd-sourced network of fellow users (let’s be honest, primarily made up of Mehtizens for this model) is far too limited for that part of the “locate it” environment to be effective. Go Tile for that potential.

Seriously? Again with the trackers?
@JnKL it does seem too soon. Meh attempting to improve the odds that at least one of them has a still functioning battery.
@RedOak I got the 8 pack last time and 100% had max charge batteries. I guess I got very lucky!
The app is great for “pinging” so you can find them when in your house. These are worthless. They require a constant diet of batteries and th batteries are a pain to install.
@rbergus I haven’t had any issues. I took one apart out of curiosity , wasn’t that difficult for me
I was hiking in Ohio and the TrackR app said I helped someone.
It only happened once. It was during the brief period when I had the app configured to continuously contact my keys and tell me if I left them behind.
I had to turn that feature off because the false positive rate was way too high.
Got the 4 last time. Had not figured a use. I think I might try sticking one on my roomba that gets lost under furniture or other rooms sometimes. Can ping instead of searching all over. Not much of a use but better than anything I have come up with yet.
