Wow! I usually miss out on the good deals that'll sell out.. Glad I took the day off tomorrow and stayed up...
I'm the Director of IT at a school in NJ and these exact machines are the ones I've been filling carts up with. CB35-B3340 is right on the money. This means the custom cases I had specially made can just be easily reordered. Most importantly though, it means that the students using them won't feel like the "odd one out" with a different model of Chromebook..
KEEP THESE COMING MEH!
If anyone wants to donate one to the school (we're a non-profit Pre-K thru 8th grade private school that would certainly put these to immediate use!!).
When I saw the higher price, I got excited and figured it might be the newer faster model. What I didn't figure on was Meh becoming a gang of greedy capitalist pigs...
@madmaxmedia When we pounce on prices from meh that are really too low (and the product sells out fast), doesn't that make us greedy capitalist pigs too? Capitalism works both ways.
@madmaxmedia seriously. They went up 10 bucks. We all know they made a ton of money off them at 150, and now they're upping the price and selling old merch
I got one of these last time and when it arrived the screen was messed up and I'm still dealing with Toshiba to get it fixed. I had to spend 30 bucks for a box to ship it back to them and I'm still waiting on it to arrive so I can proceed to the next step. So YMMV on this deal, I sure as heck aren't so stoked on my prior purchase.
@SHOVAR I bought 3 last time and all of them worked properly. - One of the screens had oily streaks like someone wiped it with an already way-too-dirty rag. - They all had slightly different Chrome OS versions on them. - For some reason they took much longer to connect to WiFi than the 16 new CB35-B3340's I bought in June 2015.
I just grabbed another 3 so I'll add a reply here concerning their condition.
I bought this the last time and love it. I happen to be able to leave my PC on at the office around the clock, so anything I need to do in Windows, I just use the free Google remote desktop and get on my work PC. Otherwise, I just use the browser or Google Docs. I don't have a Windows laptop and don't miss it. (But is does help that I can always access my work PC).
@thismyusername If you need the absolute cheapest Chromebook, I see Newegg has the refurbed Hisense for $90 today. If you want to consider a variety of cheap refurbished Chromebooks (none with a screen like this) there's the Acer store on ebay.
I bought one of these awhile ago thinking it would be my airplane computer (when did 15.6" laptops quit fitting on airplane trays anyway?!). I actually find myself using it all the freakin' time. The screen on it is fantastic. It's great for "I don't need real computing juice for this meeting, just a web browser to join the Google Hangout/edit the shared doc".
The one disappointing thing is the camera -- the quality is terrible. But you're not gonna be using it for vacation photos, right?
@kensey meh. I'll gladly sit in a 16" seat. Those who want more space can pay more. This who need two seat space can pay for two sets. It is bad enough that people spread like pancakes on the subway...
@uscpsycho Thanks for the research. I was about to pull the trigger, but then saw Amazon review after review of "The Chromebook never left my desk, the screen went bad, and Toshiba claims it's due to physical damage." Yeah most units seem to be fine, but the failures are more than an isolated incident.
Can anyone who bought this last time weigh in? It looks like such a good deal and I want to pull the trigger so bad, but I just can't come up with a good use for it lol. What are you all using them for? Can you do anything with it that it wasn't designed to do? Load other operating systems? Do some fancy on the fly in the field coding?
@Stormchaser i won one at a conference. It's great for surfing the web, watching movies, anything you would use a laptop for outside of work or creative activites. And with google drive it has a decent word processor, powerpoint clone and spreadsheet program. Our school actually is moving to these instead of windows machines.
@Stormchaser Check my comment below. You could write code on it, though I personally wouldn't since compiling it would be a challenge. You can get SSH, RDP and VNC clients from the Chrome Store to log into a remote machine and code there, though.
You can install a Linux distro in a chroot (or on an SD card), though again that sounds a lot niftier than it actually works out in practice. If you were going to do that I think you'd usually be better off to pony up the pennies per day for a cloud instance on Google or DigitalOcean and log into that remotely from this.
@Stormchaser I got one last time. Nice screen, but the case feels super plastic-y. I use mine for web browsing and gmail when I want more of a screen than my phone's, and it's a great value for the price, but no one's gonna mistake it for a Mac Air.
@Stormchaser It seems to be powerful enough to take anything I throw at it. I'm voice typing this post on the chromebook. I've installed Tuxcart, Hedgewars, Clementine, Kodi, Skype, Gimp, and even PyCharm (python development ide) all on a chrooted environment running Trusty (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) .
This screenshot was taken a few minutes ago using xfce4-screenshooter.
@Stormchaser honestly, at any rate if doesn't end up being your cup of tea you can resell for a small profit. But 4gb for a chromebook at this price is amazing.
@Stormchaser I use my chromebook (asus c201p) for banking. I like to have a dedicated machine for banking and financially (?) related use. No general web surfing. Wife and kid not allowed to use it either.
@redhat27 Wow, I did not know you can do all this. I use my Chromebook as my primary device and love it. It would be nice to install Skype, the web version is okay, but I miss some of the feature I have with the installed one.
webrtc doesn't work on chromeos, so skype IMs will work but no voice or video skype.
But you can do a whole lot more. Google's chrome os caters to simplicity, so it's kind of limited in what you can do with it out of the box. But if you put your chromebook in dev mode, you can run another os right alongside chromeos in a chroot jail. You can then switch between chromeos and your os with a keystroke combination. If that interests you, you can start here
@conandlibrarian I would like to clarify that you'll have limited skype functionality only if you use Skype for web on chromeos. If you go the chrooted route, then you get the full skype, with microphone and webcam working on Ubuntu. Here is a link to a higher res picture of the screenshot
I bought one the last time. I use it for work. I'm teaching kids to program Arduinos. A student can program the Arduino from a Raspberry Pi.
In that classroom, the teacher has only a small podium. The teacher needs something that can simultaneously drive a small monitor facing them and the projector that faces the students. It also needs to support http://codebender.cc so it can program the Arduino.
It can also be used for PCB, printed circuit board, design with Upverter, https://upverter.com/hamjudo/03ca49a44db3c600/Y3MD2015/ . Note that you really want to plug in a mouse and a second monitor for this. Using just one 1080p monitor will slow down this type of design work. I tend to have the schematic open in one screen and the board layout open in the other. With smaller browser windows for data sheets, via calculators, etc...
OK I renewed my VMP and just bought one for my Mom who has been plugging away on a terrible 5 year old HP netbook that no longer held a charge and had a failing hard drive for far too long. Hopefully I can install Teamviewer on this and provide remote support for her, but even if not I imagine the product will still be a major upgrade.
Thanks @snapster, I like these types of deals I even appreciate you being a capitalist and adjusting the price. It is closer to the true product equilibrium on the supply & demand curve!
A "pure" econonmics lesson for those not tracking the above paragraph: I was willing to spend $10 more last time, but I didn't check the deal until mid-morning. By then, the deal had already sold out. This indicates that Demand @ the old price was greater than the Supply @ the old price. The profit maximizing (or optimal) solution for meh is that this time the deal sells out on hour 23, minute 59. Hence, the Demand @ current price = Supply @ current price. (That ultimately should be the goal for all pricing, right?) It would mean that meh has maximized their profit and found the product equilibrium by exactly matching the price at which buyers are willing to pay in order to achieve a sellout. An early sellout is an indication that the product price was too low.
In the real world though, meh is deals site and doesn't want to piss off their customer base by no longer offering great deals and selling out early. The people who got the great low price may use it to advertise to their friends and neighbors about this site and tell them all how they were able to get a sweet new gadget for a really great price.
In the end, I guess we can just call early product sellouts vs a perfectly priced item the catch-22 of being a daily deals site.
Just wanted to jump in here with kudos to the Meh team, specifically Erica. The silver demon arrived Friday afternoon with the WRONG power supply! This morning (Monday) a replacement was delivered to my door. Impressive to say the least!
If it wasn't for the fact I already have a desktop, laptop, 32Gb tablet and net-able android, for a bill-sixty (plus Texas tax) I'd give this lightweight a taste test, but.. Do you have 6 month lay-away? That might convince me to go for it.
Got mine just a few minutes ago. The screen is frickin' gorgeous! Build quality doesn't seem to be on par with my Acer c720........screen is frickin' gorgeous! Keys on the keyboard are a little meh, mushy.....screen is frickin' gorgeous!
@thismyusername the dpi scaling on a 1080p 13.3" monitor isn't perfect, things are a little smaller than they should be, but other than that the screen is great. It's IPS and covers 98.5% of sRGB, which from reviews I googled is a lot better than most IPS screens in these low budget laptops. I think for example the new XPS 13 and 15 cover maybe 99% of sRGB.
As you may have guessed by now we ran in to some logistical issues in getting these shipped out as quickly as we would have liked to. All orders will be sent out this morning and should arrive within the next 7ish days. Sorry for the delay here guys. Feel free to shoot us a message if you have any questions.
@KeinoDoggy I've always had trouble with the concept of "snail mail". I just can't visualize a snail loaded with boxes for delivery. However, a turtle can balance lots of boxes on his shell while poking along on his assigned route.
Forgot to mention, that when the Postman carried it to the house I noticed the box is big enough to hold 4 bowling balls! He says "boy this thing is light for a box this big!" Tip to Meh, spend more of my $5 on faster shipping next time and less on the giant box. Opened it up, plugged it in and logged in......The screen is frickin' gorgeous!
Got mine yesterday. This is an absolute steal for $160.
Pros: The screen looks great! The 'chiclet' keyboard feels as good as a full priced "ultrabook" Battery lasts well over 6 hours. Light and easily portable Construction looks and feels good despite all plastic design. Totally silent. If there's a fan inside, I haven't heard it. Large clickpad handles multitouch actions nicely.
Cons: Even with 4GB, some youtube videos have noticeable skips/blips. ChromeOS itself is limiting, i'm going to try Ubuntu on it soon. Wifi lags on system resume, takes an extra couple seconds to re-connect. Display panel hinges feel cheap. Webcam video is ugly. Makes things in indoor light look drab and slightly yellow/greenish. Decent frame rate though.
All-in-all, it's an easy recommendation. Does exactly what I need with some welcome extra frills for a basement price.
@AttyVette --- and I touched meh button and it didn't register for this item -- :( so it shows me missing my long meh button streak and I didn't ;( sigh !!!! It just kept spinning but other times it did the same thing so I didn't go back to Check it..meh ness at its best
I'm trying to find a reason to buy this but am coming up short. The $800 touch screen Windows laptop hasn't come out of its bag in 6+ months.......so that probably tells me I don't need this, right?
@Stallion it just tells you that when you turn it on you will have several hours of updates and windows 10 will start downloading even if you don't want it. ;)
@Stallion: I haven't used my 'real' laptop in God knows how long either. But I use my Chromebook constantly. It's lighter, does everything I need to do when I'm out of the house, and it seems to connect to all wifi's easier and faster than any other laptop I've ever had.
@louiswins I use Google hangouts and my quick answer is no... There is no Skype app for Chromebook. Having said that, I just found this :
Install the Skype Android App Google is working on an Android runtime for Chrome. Ultimately, this is a compatibility layer designed to let you run any Android app directly on Chrome OS, giving Chromebooks access to all the Android apps that exist. It doesn’t work perfectly just yet and requires some fiddling, but it’s an option.
Skype has an Android app, and you can now install that Android app on Chrome OS. If you have an Android device, you can install Skype for Android and the ARChon Packager app. The packager app can then package up the Skype Android app into a Chrome app. You can then share the generated app using Android’s share feature and upload it to Google Drive, where it will be available on your Chromebook’s Files app.
First, install the Archon runtime on your Chromebook. Next, extract the Skype app and install it by opening the Extensions page in Chrome, activating “Developer mode,” and using the “Load unpacked extension” button. This is probably the easiest option.
If you just have a Chromebook, you can use the twerk Chrome app for this. You’ll just have to get an official Skype APK file to package it with.
@louiswins Skype works fine with camera and mic working, but in a chrooted environment. You need to enable dev mode and install another OS (which runs alongside chromeos). See my earlier post with a screenshot. You'll see Skype on the app dock.
@radi0j0hn Meh has to pay a higher price if they're to get better stuff to sell. Meh has to sell at a lower price to keep the customers coming.
And then there are the times in which none of the usual business practices are adhered to, so decisions are made by an 8-ball and stuff is priced with a dartboard.
@HankB33 I think it depends on whether the previous owner exercised the option or not. You go to a google page and it tells you which deals are valid -- mine was good to go for the 100GB deal, but I think only because I was the first owner to redeem the offer.
@HankB33 if you have a smart phone and use google maps, sign up to be a contributor. after 300 reviews/edits/questions you get a free TB of storage for two years. can literally achieve this easy in a month by simply following up with every place you go with the survey it ask.
@zippyus PO must have redeemed it as I get "Your device is not eligible for this promotion." when I try to redeem. When I click "Why isn't my device eligible?" I get a page with the Chrome logo that is otherwise empty. :(
@jaydeeIL21 i second this heavily... or at least an option for expedited - i love the deals, but im terribly impatient - waiting this long makes me want to cancel and return - then i breathe, and choose to just wait lol
@jaydeeIL21 apparently these ended up being delayed by winter storms. Update was a few posts up but didn't specify. While it does happen (sometimes without a good excuse) we're certainly not aiming for this or happy with the speed here either.
Wanted one, but can't justify it. My wife's laptop crashed three weeks ago, so bought her another. Got an SSD for her old one, and managed to revive it...so I inherited it. Soooo...I'll pass.
So, this is not a criticism though it might come across as sounding like one--I'm just trying to understand the economics of this Meh thing (since the write-up was all about profitability and business model).
As I write this, you've sold 330 of these Chromebooks for a total of $54282.
So, since $10 more than last time they were offered, you have made additional revenue (perhaps pure profit) of $3300. Simple math.
But $3300 is not much in absolute terms when you're running a business. I'm pretty sure you guys and gals at Meh could go through that in a single evening filled with strippers and blow. $3300 doesn't seem like such a make or break amount of money, hardly worth raising the price for. With this in mind, maybe it would have been worth raising it $20, or maybe just leaving the price where it was. Maybe you are hoping to sell another 330 throughout the rest of the day for a total of $6600 more margin--that's starting to get into real money, I think. Maybe you are just spitballing the whole thing and there wasn't that much thought put into it, you just all said "Eh, they've been selling out which means the price is too low, let's raise it by $10 and see what happens."
@defibrillator add a slider for "cost paid" to your model and then adjust it so its higher than "price sold" and you'll see how some small changes can be meaningful :)
@defibrillator I have no clue how big Mediocre or its parent/affiliates/etc are but I'd guess it would still be considered a small business by most measures.
And being a closely held entity, 3 grand is real money. If you don't want it I'll take it! Better in my pocket than yours. ;-)
Think of it another way - that's a $6 each subsidy on a future amazingly cheap 500 widget deal for us! (Thank you Chromebook meh'rs!)
@defibrillator Maybe, meh bought more because they saw how well they sold. Meh wants their customers happy but the purchase price was increased for them. This is a great deal. Everyone last time that did not get one would have paid $10 more.
Was gonna pick one up for my dad next time these came around but 10 dollars more for the same thing leaves a bad taste. Yeah it's 10 dollars and I spend more than that on crap a week but principles man, principles.
@wyk3d it is an interesting experiment in human behavior & pricing psychology isn't it?
Since it is well established that items showing up here often shown up more than once, an on the fence customer might think, "I'll wait for the next time"... except for this now several-time-repeated Pavlovian pricing maneuver.
@RedOak Sadly I wasn't on the fence the previous times, I still think it was overpriced at 150 and was in the 99$ camp. It just happens that I'm in the market now, just not for more than I already felt it was overpriced by previously.
@daennera That's your opinion, note that I said I think it's overpriced. There are many who felt 99 was a better price point for this and there are many that feel it's a great price obviously due to all the sales. Yay for people having opinions.
@wyk3d I'm just not sure where the idea that this is only worth $100. It does more than a tablet and people routinely pay several hundred for those. I simply do not see where the algorithm for the cost benefit analysis is coming from to say this is only worth $100.
@daennera Tablets traditionally have more storage and in fact do more than chrome books due to their ability to use apps, work offline, etc. Installing something like arc welder just so you can run some apks in chrome isn't terribly convenient. Comparing a chromebook to something like an iPad with apples large ecosystem is just foolish. Add to the fact that this item is crippled without an Internet connection.
This is a web browser with limited storage, a nice screen and keyboard that can sort of run apps with an add on. At best, depending on your need, a chromebook ties with a tablet, it by no means does more though.
@wyk3d I carry both a tablet and my chromebook with me at all times. I almost always use my chromebook instead of the tablet. They both have 16gb of internal storage and both can expand either by micro sd in the table and external drive in the chromebook. I always have internet on me so maybe that's why I never noticed, but I can't think of an app on my tablet outside of certain games that doesn't also require the internet to function. BaconReader, Autotrader, Ebay; those all need internet to work. And the chromebook can function offline with the word processor and spreadsheet app too, so that's never been an issue.
Maybe it's just my experience, but I've never had to put the chromebook away to pull out the tablet becausee the chromebook couldn't do something.
@wyk3d Flat out: an item is worth only what someone is willing to pay. Maybe the convenience of owning a laptop form factor browsing machine is only worth $100 to you, because you have that convenience mostly covered.
Being an ebayer since it began, it took me a few years to discipline myself to say, "What is the most I would pay for this?" and set a max bid. If I get sniped I don't care, because it wasn't worth any more to me.
In this case I bought one even though I had the opportunity to buy one last time. I was in the $100 camp at the last offering until my wife commandeered my computer a few times since that sale since she doesn't have one. Now that convenience is worth $200 so I bit.
@upbeatanime if you buy the OfficeMax/Walmart/blackfriday crappy price leader specials then all laptop brand build quality sucks! It doesn't matter what brand.
For mid or better (non-business) grade laptops we've had better luck with Toshiba than HP or Dell. From personal experience with all three.
But realistically, these days, within the same price range there isn't much build quality difference across mainline brands.
The point above was made in the context of Chromebooks and this (Toshiba) model vs (100 buck refurb) cheaper second tier brand notebooks.
9% 1 stars on Amazon and almost ALL claimed screen failure either early or later and all seemed to be given the line that "if the tech guy says you broke it, you broke it." Don't know what the average customer stupidity rate is, but most of the comments seemed literate and reasonable. [Unlike 1 star camera comments from real idiots.]
@medz The point was it seemed Toshi was trying to weasel out of fixing units that clearly were defective. What makes you think they will stand behind these refurbs any better?
Hey guys I made a big mistake and did not really know what Chrome was. I did not mean to buy 2 of these. Can I cancel I machine please and just buy 1? Thanks
In for one. Between the IPS display (and hopefully no problems!) and 4GB RAM it seemed like a pretty good deal. I'd really like the Google Pixel Chromebook with the I7 and 64GB SSD but that cost about ten times as much and I don't even know if I will like it.
"Only... we can only afford to just so crazy. If Circuit City or somebody else came along and offered our supplier a higher price for these, then we'd never get our hands on them at all..."
And THAT is EXACTLY why Circuit City is out of business... They sold a lot of crap for prices they couldn't sustain....
I already have a chromebook I never use...I don't need two that I would never use.
@ameilius The estimated delivery date is 2/1-2/3 (You can find this information in the specs post at the top of every product thread.) Though, in order for them to make that delivery time, they should be shipping pretty quickly...
Hey guys and gals, I've sold my tablet, desktop, PS4 and other laptop in anticipation of my new-found minimalist lifestyle, so if you could kick my Chromebook out to the posties before the weekend that would be great.
Because right now I'm feeling like I'm living a bit too minimalist.
went from TX to Kentucky within hours - now its been in KY (not jelly) since Saturday... and on top of it all, its "smartPost" which means the usps still needs to get their grubby, slow, entitled hands on it - ugh
@KeinoDoggy just updated shipping - so even though I have a business address, they've updated from Monday to Saturday ------ when nobody will be at the office... soooo still Monday - ugh
@ameilius Mine just updated too, from Saturday to Thursday. But it just arrived at my city's smartpost facility this afternoon, so it'll probably be delivered tomorrow. Yours may get there earlier too!
Mine was in transit to Salem, IL for a couple of days and then, without going through Salem, was checked into Chicago yesterday afternoon... cool that's where I live! This morning it was fowarded to New Berlin, Wisconsin.....DAHHHHHHHH.....I probably passed the truck on the way to work....
Mine arrived half an hour ago in the largest box filled with padded air and a tiny laptop box. Everything seems to be good with it so far!
I've left it sitting open since I signed in and it finished setting up, but now it keeps popping up tabs with evernote and amazon and such websites unprompted. I'm not sure if it's because I may have used the apps on my desktop's Chrome, but it's weird that it keeps opening the tabs when I walk away.
@andrd yes, that's why. Chrome syncs itself up in many ways with your other instances of Chrome, including all those extensions which throw up their own version of the "successful installation" web page.
Good news: booted it up and it worked great. So light, so thin.
Bad news: plugged it in to charge it and blew a circuit. So dark, so scary.
I will have to try again tomorrow. I have never blown a circuit just plugging something in. Heck, I don't think I have ever blown a circuit. Maybe I need to get out more. Anyway, I am hoping it was just a fluke.

Also, this thing is surprisingly hefty for something that feels so utterly plasticky.
Well, I was using this today and the backlight died. Shining a flashlight at the screen shows a faint image, so I’m guessing it’s just the backlight. Since its out of the 90 day warranty, does that mean I have a paperweight now, or is there a way to go about getting it repaired?
@andrd False alarm, somewhat. I guess it’s a common enough problem that there are youtube videos showing how to take the display apart and jiggle the cable. That’s all it needed. Good job Toshiba. It was just sitting on a desk for a few hours when the cable jiggled itself out.
It sucks being poor.
@cercopithecoid same.
@cercopithecoid agree :(
@cercopithecoid ok, ok... I was unable to resist :( superfluous-radiant-desire
Using mine from the last time this was sold. Great machine for the price. The screen is really pretty nice.
Wow! I usually miss out on the good deals that'll sell out.. Glad I took the day off tomorrow and stayed up...
I'm the Director of IT at a school in NJ and these exact machines are the ones I've been filling carts up with. CB35-B3340 is right on the money. @gwrankin if you haven't already, consider listing on http://www.donorschoose.org/
@gwrankin Meh.com do the right thing and send this guy an extra one!!!!:)
@gwrankin tell the parents about meh.
@shawn hey, it's Warrant!!
@PhotoJim no we're loyal customers!!
@gwrankin I guess I just got a bum one. I posted pics of the green blotches on the screen in the last thread.
I haven't even used it or put my google info on it because of the back and forth with Toshiba. Plus the fact I have to pay to ship it. Soooo... Meh.
@SHOVAR It's a risk you take buying Refurbished.
@sourhead it sounds like you have a pretty mellow I/T department. Letting you remote into a company PC from a foreign environment.
@RedOak Agreed.
Maybe at $99... maybe.
@thismyusername free.99 perfere, but would be an impulse buy at a Benjamin
@thismyusername If you need the absolute cheapest Chromebook, I see Newegg has the refurbed Hisense for $90 today. If you want to consider a variety of cheap refurbished Chromebooks (none with a screen like this) there's the Acer store on ebay.
@thismyusername I just replaced the screen on mine. It cost $90.
@kensey
http://www.cnn.com/2013/11/07/travel/feeling-cramped-battle-airline-seat/
@thismyusername Every time I fly I think of this passage from the novel Hannibal:
"Shoulder room is 20 inches. Hip room between armrests is 20 inches. This is two inches more space than a slave had on the Middle Passage."
These days you get 2-3 inches less than that.
@kensey meh. I'll gladly sit in a 16" seat. Those who want more space can pay more. This who need two seat space can pay for two sets. It is bad enough that people spread like pancakes on the subway...
I almost bit until I read the reviews on Amazon. The screens have a very high failure rate and Toshiba will deny warranty claims.
Buyer beware. Read the reviews before you jump so you don't have any unexpected surprises.
@uscpsycho No problem with mine so far, had it for over a year (same model.)
@uscpsycho Thanks, the 9% one stars from what read like rational people writing clearly also scared me off.
Reading the "Hotcakes wish they sold like this" post is the reason I come back here everyday! Gets me teary eyed :')

@Stormchaser I put Unbuntu on mine. Works great and the screen is really nice.
@regnowsin chances are that came from Meh.com :P
The Mac-like app dock is docky
@conandlibrarian Unfortunately as @thisismyusername said below,
But you can do a whole lot more.
@DKL It was when they first came out, in the pre- meh darkness. But my second did come from here.
Wish i the cash to spend. Great deal sucks i am missing out on it
Got one last time they had em, works great. My new daily driver for school notes and such.
Today's write up deserves a permanent link at the top of the FAQ page. Explains a lot.
@jjohns71 Yep. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/teamviewer/oooiobdokpcfdlahlmcddobejikcmkfo?hl=en-US
@jjohns71 or check into this https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chrome-remote-desktop/gbchcmhmhahfdphkhkmpfmihenigjmpp?hl=en
I do not use it personally but I hear good things.
Just wanted to jump in here with kudos to the Meh team, specifically Erica. The silver demon arrived Friday afternoon with the WRONG power supply! This morning (Monday) a replacement was delivered to my door. Impressive to say the least!
@MrJazz Just want to make sure that @galmaegi sees this. ;-)
Aww, thanks @MrJazz @gio Yes, I saw it. Thanks for tagging me!
I considered this, but I am not sure the screen is any good...
@andrd (I was making fun of the previous 3 posts) :)
@thismyusername Sorry, it's been a long day. I thought you were but wasn't sure, so I took the bait.
@andrd they really need to implement the sarcasm font or mark... would make it so much easier to be snarky without confusion.
@andrd Try going into settings and change display to 1536x864. Text and things will look better.
Wow! Try cranking your screen up to 2400 x 1350 and then wacth this 4k in full screen mode.
Great deal!
Finally got one! I homeschool my three kids... can't have too many internet access devices.
Well, actually we can.
Actually, actually... we have had too many for a while. But battery life on most of them has turned abysmal. Yeah, that's my story.
frightened-oval-pirate
Pretty and cheap, fast shipment. I have it at $150, would gladly have paid $10 more.
Hey all!
As you may have guessed by now we ran in to some logistical issues in getting these shipped out as quickly as we would have liked to. All orders will be sent out this morning and should arrive within the next 7ish days. Sorry for the delay here guys. Feel free to shoot us a message if you have any questions.
@MEHcus What shipping method are you using for shipping these? USPS, FedEx, UPS?
@jaydeeIL21 Turtle.
@Barney LOL. I wish I knew where they were shipping from
@jaydeeIL21 They'll be sent out via FedEx Smart Post from Carrollton, TX.
@jaydeeIL21 @MEHcus Yep, just like I said, turtle.
@Barney Not turtle....more like snail!
@KeinoDoggy I've always had trouble with the concept of "snail mail". I just can't visualize a snail loaded with boxes for delivery. However, a turtle can balance lots of boxes on his shell while poking along on his assigned route.
@MEHcus Thank you for the update. I appreciate the extra effort I suppose you're all putting in to get our orders shipped.
Pros:
The screen looks great!
The 'chiclet' keyboard feels as good as a full priced "ultrabook"
Battery lasts well over 6 hours.
Light and easily portable
Construction looks and feels good despite all plastic design.
Totally silent. If there's a fan inside, I haven't heard it.
Large clickpad handles multitouch actions nicely.
Cons:
Even with 4GB, some youtube videos have noticeable skips/blips.
@sugarhigh4242 Yup, the Intel N2840 is fanless. Hence, no vents!
Deal that computes -- go figure !
@AttyVette Ooh, shiny!
$159.99 on groupon
@applerawk Groupon deal has only 2GB
@AttyVette --- and I touched meh button and it didn't register for this item -- :( so it shows me missing my long meh button streak and I didn't ;( sigh !!!! It just kept spinning but other times it did the same thing so I didn't go back to Check it..meh ness at its best
I'm trying to find a reason to buy this but am coming up short. The $800 touch screen Windows laptop hasn't come out of its bag in 6+ months.......so that probably tells me I don't need this, right?
@Stallion it just tells you that when you turn it on you will have several hours of updates and windows 10 will start downloading even if you don't want it. ;)
@Stallion Early Christmas Present? Maybe for a grab bag?
@Stallion: I haven't used my 'real' laptop in God knows how long either. But I use my Chromebook constantly. It's lighter, does everything I need to do when I'm out of the house, and it seems to connect to all wifi's easier and faster than any other laptop I've ever had.
@daennera You sound just like me. I have not turned on my laptop in months, I use my Chromebook for everything.
@Stallion Hmmm - perhaps it means you need to sell the Windows laptop and buy three of these.
Most of the info I can find online says that Skype doesn't work on chromebooks, but I found a post from just a month ago that says it does now: http://skypeonchromebook.com/2015/12/10/skype-for-web-good-news-for-all-chromebook-users/
Can someone who owns a chromebook confirm this? I don't want to make everyone I Skype with switch to hangouts.
@louiswins try online forums like transformerforums
@louiswins I use Google hangouts and my quick answer is no... There is no Skype app for Chromebook. Having said that, I just found this :
Install the Skype Android App
Google is working on an Android runtime for Chrome.
@louiswins the web interface might work? https://web.skype.com/
nevermind, the webrtc doesn't work on chromeos, so skype IMs will work but no voice or video skype.
@louiswins Skype works fine with camera and mic working, but in a chrooted environment. You need to enable dev mode and install another OS (which runs alongside chromeos). See my earlier post with a screenshot. You'll see Skype on the app dock.
@louiswins I use the beta web version of Skype on my Chromebook. The only issue I have with it is I cannot edit my comments.
I guess I'm slow, but I read the whole essay and I still don't know why the price is higher.
@pajamma main point is that to be viable this platform has to be competitive in sourcing product or it doesn't get it. It's all rather depressing.
@snapster And in English that means what?
@radi0j0hn Meh has to pay a higher price if they're to get better stuff to sell. Meh has to sell at a lower price to keep the customers coming.
And then there are the times in which none of the usual business practices are adhered to, so decisions are made by an 8-ball and stuff is priced with a dartboard.
popular-exclusive-rosemary
Have one. Wish I needed another. I like it that much.
Great, I finally decide to pull the trigger and you guys decide to sell out when I press the order button... sigh #Chromebook2less
@aapaz89 I'll sell you mine for $170 plus shipping. Buyer's remorse.
@medz Thanks but no thanks, Non-Buyer's Relief
@aapaz89 I look at as "dilemma solved".
@aapaz89 Talk is cheap isn't it? ;-)

Does anyone know if the 100GB online storage is included in this deal?
@barney Damn. That means relying on two shipping companies. I hope to have it by next friday or sooner. Fingers crossed.
@jaydeeIL21 Good luck!
Maybe they could have used part of that ten bucks to upgrade shipping...
Mine finally shipped. Shouldn't take 7 business days to deliver. Meh needs better shipping options.
@snapster I, for one,...

Ugh......
Wanted one, but can't justify it. My wife's laptop crashed three weeks ago, so bought her another. Got an SSD for her old one, and managed to revive it...so I inherited it. Soooo...I'll pass.
Yay, dual core. Yay.
I saw one of these on Groupon (though had the 2GB not the 4GB) refurb'd for 159.99
@xarous the extra 2GB in these Chromebooks makes a HUGE difference. They are painful to use at 2GB, so this is the better deal for sure.
tepid-beastly-baby! I'm in! I've been watching for one of these for a while.
Who knows. Who knows.
@defibrillator
The adverts on the main page (no less than 4 seperate spaces) supplement profit, as I'm sure all that stat tracking does.
@snapster You're the modern day Madman Muntz. "I buy 'em retail and sell 'em wholesale ... it's more fun that way!"
@wyk3d Except it's not overpriced.
@wyk3d While I'm not a Chrome fan, from what I know, consulting with and researching for clients, this is not a $99-spec Chromebook.
You might be more price-content with model that does not have 4GB of RAM, nor full HD (1080x1920), nor a 13.3 inch screen, nor Toshiba build quality.
@wyk3d Note that Chromebooks can also work offline. See https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/3214688?hl=en
Except for playing solitaire, most of what I do on a tablet or phone requires the Internet, too.
@RedOak toshiba build quality is market bottom. they have the worse customer service about it too.
Does this have a sim card slot?
I bought one because the write-up said it sold out in 2 hours last time... Apparently these aren't cool anymore. Can I cancel?
@medz perhaps due to the 10-buck-fickle crowd?
I use my own judgement of what I want to buy, never follow everyone else. If these sold out in a hour you would still want one. Be yourself.
@medz I think you'll be happy you have it. I love mine.
@sourhead except we JUST bought an 11" lenovo chromebook of similar specs...
This looks like an OK deal if you can install a non Google encrusted OS on this thing. So, is it possible to install a normal version of Linux on it?
@rrkappes Yes, but most don't. They use it as it was intended.
@rrkappes Yes, I have it running only linux. Here's the instructions. http://www.fascinatingcaptain.com/howto/install-ubuntu-on-the-toshiba-chromebook-2-in-5-steps/

I caved and got the 15y.o. this to type papers on as everything is in Google docs...
We'll see.
laborious-passe-trip
9% 1 stars on Amazon and almost ALL claimed screen failure either early or later and all seemed to be given the line that "if the tech guy says you broke it, you broke it." Don't know what the average customer stupidity rate is, but most of the comments seemed literate and reasonable. [Unlike 1 star camera comments from real idiots.]
@radi0j0hn Yeah, but these are refurbished, so screen problem probably fixed.
Thanks
@rockitman If you want to ask Meh that question, click the "I need help with this" button in your order confirmation email.
@rockitman You might be able to self-cancel if you're quick enough: https://meh.com/orders
@rockitman there is typically a cancel button on your order screen for a while
after that i have had good luck writing support to cancel impulse buys i regretted upon waking
@rockitman hey.. I missed the deal. I wanted to buy it. Is there any way I can buy it from you or through meh.
In for one. Between the IPS display (and hopefully no problems!) and 4GB RAM it seemed like a pretty good deal. I'd really like the Google Pixel Chromebook with the I7 and 64GB SSD but that cost about ten times as much and I don't even know if I will like it.
Woot! er... eh, Meh! ;)
"Only... we can only afford to just so crazy.
@comics360 And Tigerdirect.com RIP.
has anyones shipped yet?
@ameilius Still "processing" for me. I hope it makes it to shipping at least before the week ends...
@alacarte same... wanted it for the weekend - but blehhhhhh #nopatience
@ameilius The estimated delivery date is 2/1-2/3 (You can find this information in the specs post at the top of every product thread.)
Though, in order for them to make that delivery time, they should be shipping pretty quickly...
@ameilius I just checked again and still no order or tracking number. I don't see it being shipped between 2/1-2/3
@jaydeeIL21 yea - im pretty sure thats why they say "estimated" to cover their butts ;)
@ameilius Good to know I'm not the only one in this boat.
@HankB33 estimated is a very loose word ;)
Now, its processing. Shouldn't take this long to ship something. Unless they ship through somebody else and that's what takes so long
Mine still says "processing". Doubt it will be delivered as claimed between 2/1 and 2/3.
@KeinoDoggy mine is the same. Could be smartpost corporate welfare shenanigans.
Day 5.......still "processing".
@KeinoDoggy It IS a slow processor...
Too late to cancel? Add it is now, I'm going to have to try to convince the wife it came in a bag of crap.
Super excited to get this, however looks like I'm going to be excited to get this for a while longer...
"All orders will be sent out this morning and should arrive within the next 7ish days." So has anyone actually gotten a tracking number......yet?
@KeinoDoggy Yup - it arrives a week from tomorrow!
@KeinoDoggy I got my tracking number a bit over an hour ago
Still no change in "processing". Can anyone from Meh give me an update??
@KeinoDoggy if you go to https://www.fedex.com/apps/fedextrack/?cntry_code=us , select track by reference, enter your order id (such as word1-word2-word3 ), your country and zip code and click the track button, it'll pull up your tracking number.
@andrd Thanks buddy! It says shipping label created. Guess it should ship soon. 11:54 am Shipment information sent to FedEx
@andrd Thanks! Official status still "processing" but a shipping label has been created. :D
Shipped this morning....arriving next Saturday. Guess we can come back then with updates!
slowest......shipping.....everrrrrrrrr
went from TX to Kentucky within hours - now its been in KY (not jelly) since Saturday... and on top of it all, its "smartPost" which means the usps still needs to get their grubby, slow, entitled hands on it - ugh
@ameilius Yep....Same here...sloooooooooow!
@ameilius Hah, mine shot halfway across the country from TX to Bloomington, CA in two days.
It's been another two days and it's still sitting there... barely 70 miles away from me. Taunting me.
@alacarte lol
@andrd It was from things I had added to my desktop Chrome. Oops.
Got mine this morning. The screen is very nice. Its a nice upgrade from my acer c720.
This high resolution screen looks great, but...
