Time to call it a day....
15when there are 8 inches of snow on the road and more falling, and you have to follow an idiot driving one of these, with a washer and dryer against the cab and NOTHINNG over the rear wheels!!! He, literally, drove sideways up the road.
(had to shovel out the parents, in case of emergency, or I would not have been out!!!)

Glad you made it home safely @mikibell!
@therealjrn Thank you darlin!!
I’ve only gone outside once today.
Will have to go outside again to clean more snow.
After 6 hours, I have significant more snow to deal with (on the car) than after 11 hours.
(I cleaned my car at about noon. Much more on it now than then.)
@PlacidPenguin by the time I finished shoveling their driveway, the stairs were completely covered again. If I am up to it later, I will have to shovel it alllll over again… in the same path of snow that is hitting you
Be careful, Penguin, it is freakin heavy snow!!
@mikibell @Sammydog01
At 6:20, I measured a spot on my front lawn, and found that the snowfall was at 18 inches.
At 6:34, I found 19 1/2 inches in that spot.
@PlacidPenguin yeah… no, I am not standing outside to measure anything, let alone photography it
I was too tired to even go check the mailbox after I shoveled. hmm reminds me there was a package I tossed into the house!
@mikibell
I was trying to find my car, so I was outside anyways.
@mikibell
Up to 20 something inches now.
Really hoping that I could do stuff from house tomorrow (though I doubt it ).
@PlacidPenguin Holy Shit.
@mfladd
You could (and should) say that again.
@mikibell @mfladd
YAY!!! I get to do stuff from my house tomorrow.
With the exception of going to a bank tomorrow (they were closed today), I don’t plan on leaving my house.
@mfladd @mikibell @PlacidPenguin I am happily out of the worst of this storm. We are getting a few inches but nothing really.
A few people around here are hoping we get another 33 inches for some stupid record. I caught spring fever and am ready to be warm without 15 thousand layers of clothing.
Be careful of the idiots out there. It amazes me how quickly people forget how to drive in the snow around here and we get plenty.
We are in the pretttyyyy pink color…
A workmate in PA said she has already lost her gazebo and three trees in this storm. She said it has been worse than the high wind one they just got over.
@mfladd I hope she is ok, … same here… but being on the heels of that other storm, I am sure there are areas that just got power back and are about to lose it again… isn’t it spring yet???
More snow on Sunday!
FWIW, shoveling sunshine out of the way is a total PITA.
(Stay safe, everyone!)
@narfcake not funny… in the slightest!
Your turn is coming. Sorry, @mikibell.
@OldCatLady you are sweet… and that is beautiful!
as much as I complain about snow, I can’t figure out somewhere better to live. I love the other three seasons here.
It’s a day.
@cranky1950 and we called it!
I let the cat out, she stood on the front steps for about 20 seconds then ran back inside, looking a little annoyed.
About a minute later, I let her out again, same story. She had no interest in the outdoors after that.
If the cat doesn’t want to go out, neither do I.
@Seeds good! Keep your cats indoors!
@moonhat I hear people say that, and I understand the logic. I completely disagree. At some point quality of life suffers enough that I don’t think it’s right to always opt for safety. Pets and otherwise.
@Seeds BUT THINK OF THE OTHER CREATURES!
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/cats_actually_kill
(I do fear for my neighbor’s cat, who is allowed to roam free. There are coyotes in my area.)
@narfcake @Seeds same in our area… makes me nervous when I see kitties out about AND when I see the coyotes…, I almost hit a baby coyote a few months back in the early morning
@Seeds and kind of depends where you are, I see what you’re saying in some cases
@narfcake Why do the chipmunks in my yard have a bigger right to not get eaten than a chicken on a farm? Even if the comic is correct (oatmeal dude makes shit up a lot), a couple extra dead chipmunks probably has a lesser environmental impact that processing, packing, and shipping even one can of cat food.
Schools are closed again tomorrow…
@mikibell
Mixed statuses here as of now.
We have a small tree down and a bunch of small-to-medium sized branches also down. Fortunately, the all fell without hitting anything. I think we got 6 or 7 inches but its very wet and heavy.
To top it all off, I get another work from home day because the hubbies truck broke and he stole my Jeep!
Chilly here for March, but no snow.
I wouldn’t want that much snow, and I hope you are all staying safe (and potentially, warm.)
We just ended a record 99 days of no precipitation with 0.15 inches of rain on February 16th. It hasn’t rained since then, so that’s all we’ve had since November 8th.
Feel free to send anything wet our way. I like my lawn crispy, but it’s time to shed my increasingly reptilian skin.
@2many2no 99 days? Holy Dehydration, Batman! I have always said I will take living someplace that has lots of rain over a place that has none, anytime.
@mfladd This is bad even for us. We usually get 12-15 inches of rain per year, so hopefully it will turn around soon.
But, hey, at least it’s not snowing.
@2many2no
Send me an address and I’ll arrange something.
@2many2no
Droughts are horrible. My sympathies.
@PlacidPenguin It’s all good.
So far Casemates has been shipping me sufficient quantities of wet stuff.
It takes the bother out of a lot of things.
So this is what it looked like the day after at my parents… their driveway is cleared now… and thank goodness he ordered a snowblower to help us next time!!
I grew up in Ct. But now… in the land of blooming daffodils and redbuds.
Decided that I should probably move my car from lawn to the driveway.
My car was parked diagonally on the lawn, and after driving straight (well, diagonally), I’m on driveway.
Initial plan:
Get to driveway, go onto street, turn around by a corner.
Actuality:
Ended up horizontally on driveway, and did a 3 point turn in the snow.
Not what I was going for, but at least I barely had to remove snow from around tires.
View from kitchen window. I had better pictures, but meh…
Worked on cleaning steps yesterday, but it was too side to deal with. Now snow is harder and easier to deal with, though after a while I needed a break.
I checked my weather station outside here and found it has been snowing:
@sligett
In keeping up with my new policy…
@sligett
@sligett Damn, that thing’s really accurate.
Yesterday actually wound up being better than Friday for me. Few on the roads, and no high winds taking down trees - and power lines.
The snow, however, was a LOT worse and shoveling when I got home was like shifting sacks of wet cement. Here’s an idea someone in Buffalo needs t be working on:
Yesterday I saw that there were 2 confirmed deaths from the weather. One not far from me.
While driving yesterday to the bank, noticed a cop pulled somebody over. Shortly thereafter, I saw him (at least, I think it was him), on the other side of the road, having pulled somebody else over.
More police seen.
Today:
Cracked tree limbs (thankfully, some bigger tree limbs were cut off before the storm.
A couple of lights with no power.
More cars with issues on side of the road (same street as each other).
More police seen.
Streets aremostly clean, but there is still some snow and ice.
