Great for staying up and watching the lightning until I start to drift to sleep to the soothing sound until I get nervous about the power going out and my sump pump fails; flooding my basement.
I wish we got more lightning and thunderstorms where I live. I love watching lightning and going to sleep to thunder. However, there can be too much of a good thing. Ever tried to sleep in a tent during a very close lightning storm? Lots of flashing and deafening noise equals no sleep for me.
@therealjrn@tweezak When I was a kid, our parents used to take us all over in a pop-up camper for summer vacations. During one camping trip in Cape Cod, a thunderstorm rolled in and the sky lit up constantly for something like an hour. Between sheet lightning and regular lightning, I think there must have been over 100 strikes a minute. At times you could have easily read a book. My dad was seriously considering packing us all in the car and abandoning the camper. (There were a couple of times we did; I don’t think this was one of them). It was pretty scary, but my fascination definitely overwhelmed whatever fear there was. The next morning the newspapers said it was the most intense lightning storm on the cape in over a century of keeping records.
But yeah, no sleep.
I seriously miss thunderstorms out here in SF Bay Area. Maybe we get two a year, and they’re much too brief. Back in Wisconsin they were my favorite weather thing.
usually great for sleeping or just enjoyment if it’s not yet bedtime. however, occasionally annoying and terrible for sleep. last summer we got a few where the cracks of thunder were so intense they’d set car alarms off. and we live in a city so it was like…
I lovelovelove thunderstorms.

I find that the more dramatic the thunder and the heavier the rain, the better I sleep or relax. I absolutely love thunderstorms.
I take my hearing aids out at night; don’t hear a thing! LOL
Absolutely love thunderstorms. Sometimes I’ll tell my Google mini to play them when I’m trying to sleep.
The rolling thunder keeps me awake. It’s good that Texas does not have much, so I sleep well through the thunderstorms now.
@hchavers If I fall to sleep before the storm starts, I can usually sleep thru it. But the noise of thunder will prevent me from falling asleep.

What fresh, new, weather created level of chaos will I wake up to,after the storm, in the morning.

Miss fireflies, too.
Whoever wrote the poll obviously doesn’t live in tornado alley… or there’d be an option for “scared I might lose the house.”

CRACK HONK HONK HONK HONK OIL IS MY BLOOD
[repeat every time you begin to drift off again]
I don’t care what it does at night while I’m at work as long as it’s peaceful during the day while I sleep.
